General :: Trick Theme Chooser HDPI
Aug 21, 2012
is there anyway to trick cm9/aokp theme chooser to think that my device is hdpi, instead of mdpi, without lcd density changer hack most HDPI themes, if not all(with the exception to lucid) work on mdpi devices yet theme chooser doesn't allow me and will give me a compiler error.
if the above does not work. is there anything i could change in the theme apk, whether its an xml, or image or anything I could change to make theme chooser think that i am using an MDPI theme, even if the theme includes hdpi images? THE "APPLY HDPI THEMES TO MDPI PAGE, LCD DENSITY CHOOSER PAGE.

I can decompile and recompile framework-res.apk and other apps successfully, but every time I decompile a theme chooser *.apk I get errors trying to recompile.
Is there a trick to this? I am running Reaper 3.0(CyanogenMod 7) installed the framework via installation options(that's all), have paths to platform-tools, tools etc.. The latest Android SDK installed (and all the others..)
Once again I'n only getting these errors Recompiling TC Themes.
Here is an Excerpt of my APKMULTITOOL.LOG, the start middle and end.

Current version of Android (4.2.2).
Want to: run apps that demand to have WiFi on+connected, even when I'm on 3G/4G. (Specifically, I'd be happy if I could get Xfinity TV Player to run on my rooted stock Nexus 4 over HSPA, but again, hoping this thread will attract info about tricking apps in the general case.)
Tried:
A) qaWifiOnlyMode.txt,
B) running WiFi Tether For Root Users and quickly turning wifi on after launching. Neither worked.

So who knows to get this app to play whatever ringtone you want?

I'm trying to create a basic AlertDialog using an activity with a theme of Theme.Dialog.What I want is for there to be a horizontal bar between the title and the message. However, the bar is not being resized correctly. Rather than being the width of the activity, the bar is the width of the message text. This means that if the activity is being expanded by the message, then the bar will fill the whole activity, so it looks correct. However, if the message width is less than the activity width, the bar only displays above the part of the activity with the text. I've tried every single combination of "fill_parent" and "wrap_content" that I can think of, and none of those work.I've also tried using RelativeLayout and placing the bar above the message text, but that also doesn't work. If I use the RelativeLayout approach and set the bar to fill_parent, it causes the activity to expand to fill the whole screen width, which is also undesirable. Ideally, I want the text placed, the activity width computed, and the bar resized to that width (without affecting it). Is there some way to flag a view to fill the parent view but not to affect its size?

All these days i used to test my application on my HTC Legend (2.1 OS) only, and i had all my images resources in drawable-hdpi folder.. and everything worked fine
and today i wanted to test my Application on Android 1.5, so i recreated all the images with lower resolution and kept it under drawable-mdpi folder, so now i have High resolution images in drawable-hdpi folder and lower resolution images in drawable-mdpi folder..
Everything looked great on both the HTC Legend and Emulator(with Android 1.5)
Later i found out that the images in drawable-mdpi are shown in my HTC Legend too and not the images in drawable-hdpi in my manifest file i have also included <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="3" /> <supports-screens android:anyDensity="true" />
I want to know as to why the images in drawable-hdpi are not used?

I use themes in my apps, which generally just extend android:Theme and then set a bunch of styles. I use dialogs made from layouts, but since I set the theme for the application, they have inherited all of the regular styles and no longer carry a border, etc. My question is: How do I say, "I want everything to use this theme which extends Theme, except dialogs, which should use this other theme that extends Theme.Dialog"? It seems like that's how things work by default but when you set the theme to your own, you lose the dialog theme!

I've extended Theme.Dialog to use a different color as per the sample in the ApiDemos project but for some reason it does not use the theme properly in my project. I created a new project and it works perfectly fine there. The main problem here is that it does not show as floating in my project. Instead, it sets the rest of the screen black except for what would be the dialog window, where it uses the correct colors, etc. Any ideas? I am beating my head against the wall here.

I have built android 2.1 on freescale's i.MX platform. But after running Gallery3D, it will crash with the log of failed to load resource. I found that the whole drawable-hdpi/ (it really contains in the Gallery3D source code res/) is not in the apk package, and cause lack of drawable-hdpi/icon_cancel.png. The apk only contains drawable-mdpi/ and drawable/. My question is why the drawable-hdpi/ resource is dropped when building apk? Per my understanding is that, which drawable-* resource loading is determined on runtime, and all the drawable-* should be in the apk package.

I have some 9-patch images on my app, and they work great on the medium density. When I load the app on a High density emulator/device, these images look grainy. It happens only to 9-patch images. The others look great after the pre- scaling. Is there a way to make them look good after the scaling, like the non-9-patch images?

I have set up my project with different drawable directories (ldpi, mdpi and hdpi). I have a background png with two different resolutions: 320x480 in drawable-mdpi folder, and 480x800 in drawable-hdpi. Both have the same filename. When I try to load the background as a style in the manifest (using android:windowBackground in the style) if I use the emulator for a 1.6 device, I get the correct one loaded(mdpi). However, if I try this on my Nexus, I see that at first the correct background from the hdpi folder is loaded, but it quickly switches to the mdpi one. I have tried also to set up the background in the layout xml file (android:src=...) but in this case only the mdpi one is loaded. If I delete the mdpi version, everything is loaded ok. Any idea on what is the problem?

I'm wondering if anyone has a lead on some nice code to do a Folder Chooser / Directory Picker? I know they wrote one at OpenIntents but I don't want to package the whole OI thing with my app - it'll make it bigger than I need. I just want a nice interface for picking directories (As in, a directory of images to slideshow).

I made each image a different color so I can tell if it is loading the right image. When I test my program on different density screens it only chooses the mdpi images. It scales them to match the correct dpi but doesn't choose the right folder. It just defaults to mdpi. In the manifest I have, android:normalScreens="true" android:anyDensity="false"
Anyone have a similar problem? I'm sure it is something simple that I am overlooking but I can't figure it out. From what I read on the Android Support Multiple Screens guide is that you should just have to put the different density images in their correct folders and Android will do the rest.

What is the proper way of sizing the dimensions of an image in a hdpi screen vs a ldpi screen.
For instance, an 89*80 png displays fine, with the text, on my droid 2....but how should I go about resizing the image to be smaller on a smaller screened droid? Do I manually alter the image and place it in the ldpi folder or will it do that automatically?

I am trying to move a set of images currently in the resources/drawable-hdpi folder to the Assets folder.
These images are copied to the private application directory when the app is installed.
When I do this the resulting image is smaller than when I had the image in the resources folder. i.e. the baked beans image is smaller than the others. If I load the baked beans images from the drawables folder it is the same size as the other product images.
I have tried to scale the image but it has no effect.
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent)
{
ImageView imView = (ImageView)rowView.findViewById(R.id.product_thumb nail);
ImageView imProduct = (ImageView)rowView.findViewById(R.id.product_icon) ;
tvName.setText((CharSequence) values.get(position).getName());

I would like to know how I can create a chooser for the user to select from either a video or a photo. I want them to be able to capture a new video/photo or select from existing videos/photos. With the following code, I get a chooser that allows for that, but also allows audio creation/selection.
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_GET_CONTENT);
intent.addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_OPENABLE);
intent.setType("*/*");
startActivityForResult(Intent.createChooser(intent, getString (R.string.mediaChooserTitle)), REQUEST_MEDIA);
If I set the type to "image/*" I can create/get a photo, and "video/* I can get/create a video. How can I combine these types?

I want my activity to appear in the list of activities (gallery. live wallpapers, etc) that you see when you try to choose a wallpaper from the home screen. Im assuming this is done with intents but cant seem to find one that works. The closest one I can find is:
<action android:name="android.intent.action.ACTION_SET_WALLPAPER>
but that doesn't work and seems to be used for something else.

In my application the user selects an image. When the ACTION_GET_CONTENT intent is launched it displays the dialog to select one of the available image viewers installed on the device. However I need the built in Gallery app to be chosen because upon selecting an image it launches the screen to crop the image (same thing that comes up when choosing the home screen wallpaper) which only the Gallery chooser offers.
Is it possible to skip this chooser dialog and launch the Gallery automatically? Or at least remove the other options from the list so only Gallery displays?
