Just wondering if we can share some "must-have" apps and widgets for the HTC Desires running on 2.2 (FROYO). List your top ten with a description of what they do (if it isnt clear from the app name), cost, and where to find them if not in the "Market".In no particular order:
Apps & Widgets
1. Timeriffic (Free, Market) Lets you schedule tasks for your phone to do at specific times of the day (ie. turn on wifi at 6pm when you will be home then off at 23:00 when you will be in bed)
2. Barcode Scan (Free, Market) Barcode Scanner
3. Layar (Free, Market) Augmented Reality App
4. Astro (Free, Market) File Manager
5. RealCalc (Free, Market) Scientific Calculator - Good if you need a % button

8. Silent Boot (Free, Market) Stops your Desire from making that annoying start up noise
9. Gesture Search (Free, Market) Search by use of gestures on screen
10. "Where's my droid?" (Free, Market) Text your Desire from another phone with a particular word or sentence of choice and it will turn the volume up (if on silent) and alert you to its whereabouts

I have had my Inc for a few weeks and am still trying to fill up screens and get things set up just the way I want them. I know there have been threads like this in the past, but most of them were from LONG before we got our phones. Android :: Any Apps That Let You Put Widgets In Notification Bar

Jul 23, 2010

Some of the Samsung phones have a toggle bar for GPS, wifi, ect. that can be pulled down from the notification bar. Does anyone know of an app that mimics this? I've looked in the market but didn't find anything that similar. Also a simple 3 button media player option would be useful that way you don't have to switch apps just to skip a song or stop the player. Is there anything like that out there at all?

HTC Desire :: HTC Sense Apps - Widgets When Rooting

Sep 20, 2010

I am wondering what actually happens with all the apps and widgets that come with Sense UI. I assume none of them will work anymore once the Desire is rooted? Or will they stay and still be useable? Can you download them somewhere again from HTC for example and install on a rooted device?

I heard of custom Roms that will let you root the device and still use some HTC apps. Is that correct or is there no such thing?

Finally, a question that might be a bit of speculation currently. With HTC introducing the new website with features such as SMS backup for life, contact editing, app shop, etc.... some of the stuff like the SMS backup sound very interesting but now I am wondering if these features will be available for rooted devices. Anybody has any ideas about that?

Would be kind of unfair if rooted devices could not use this HTC service.

Motorola Droid :: Favorite Widgets? (not Apps)

Dec 22, 2009

What are your favorite home screen widgets? There are plenty of lists of favorite apps but I prefer the on screen functionality of widgets without having to open the app. Here's what I am using so far:
S2 Calendar
Weather Forecast
If clicking the widget just opens the program then to me it's not really a widget even if the program creates an entry in the add widgets menu. So what are your favorites?

HTC EVO 4G :: Apps And Widgets Auto Sync Even When They Aren't In Use?

Sep 12, 2010

When you have auto sync settings turned on for certain things, like Facebook, Twitter, weather, etc. but you *don't* have these apps open or any widgets on your homescreens, do they still sync at the specified times?

I ask for general knowledge, but also because I'm curious if my Word of the Day widget (or even the app itself) is updating itself every day, even though I don't use the widget on my homescreens (and the app hasn't been opened in a while either). But is always listed in the running programs list.

Android :: Scrollable Widgets In Alternative Home Apps

May 31, 2010

Many people would like to see scrollable widgets on their Home. As you may know, current Android stock Home doesn't support it, and HTC Sense doesn't provide any API.We propose to create an open source standard for an Home extension code allowing devs to create 3rd party widgets which support scrolling (list view). The principe have been implemented, and succesfully tested in Home++ and Pure messenger widget. Now, after discussing with other Home creators, we'd like to generalize this and include it in other Home applications. Few other Home applications devs are already integrating the Home++ code to evaluate this (FreedHome, Tag Home and HelixLauncher 1).Here is the list of interested parteners: - Helix Launcher - FreedHome - Tag Home - ADW Launcher - LauncherPro beta - GDE.During this first phase we'd like to focus on scrollable widgets but other extensions could be imagined (animations, gestures)If Google wants to use it for the next Android release, we would be very happy, but for now, the goal is to include it in a large number of alternative Home applications.
