HTC Incredible :: Landscape Support - Apps/widgets?
Apr 28, 2010
I'm wondering if we could get a list going of the apps / widgets that work in landscape orientation. All of the videos I see of the Incredible have the homescreens ignoring landscape. Can anyone confirm or disconfirm this for any apps or widgets that they notice?

A coworker of mine has an incredible, and since froyo she has only been able to open apps in landscape landscape. Every app...whether they are supposed to open that way or not. Has anyone else had this problem, or know of a way to correct it?

I have had my Inc for a few weeks and am still trying to fill up screens and get things set up just the way I want them. I know there have been threads like this in the past, but most of them were from LONG before we got our phones. Since things seem to change frequently I figured I would pick everyone's brains and see what they like. So, what are your absolute favorite apps and widgets .those you can't live without.

What application allows you to have 5 rows of widgets/applications? Is that a feature of the newest revision of LauncherPro or something else?

Do any backup apps restore your phones icon and widgets. I don' want to have to re setup all the apps I have so I want something (if there is something) that can restore a phone to the way it was home screen and all.

Is anyone else having a problem with Beautiful Widgets smaller home weather after the last update? I noticed on my wife's ally, when you'd go to landscape, the widget does not fill the screen end to end like it used to. It cuts off about 1/2" from each side of the screen. I have an ally also and mine goes end to end. I'm still using an older version of Beautiful Widgets though. I reverted hers back to an older version and it works like mine, going end to end, as it should. I see in the release notes on the newest release that they 'fixed' a landscape bug on smaller home weather, but it seems their fix made it not work correctly on the ally. I can't seem to find any way to contact them about this.
To elaborate on my already long post, I'm using launcher pro plus, and when I highlight the widget to resize, the highlighted box DOES go end to end. The widget does not. WTF? Is it a skin issue maybe? Something is weird.

As we all know the droid's d-pad is located under the screen on the slider. I just wonder has anyone ever come to a situation where an app or a game needs a d-pad, but doesn't support the landscape mode, so you have no choice but to use the phone in portrait with the slider open.
and in that case would the "up" button(in landscape mode) become the "right" button, or does it still recognize it as an UP button? Is it comfortable to hold the phone that way?
I could imagine some games that are designed for the Hero/magic would require you to use the d-pad/trackball.

When applying an alpha value to an imageview, Eclipse displays the view accurately in layout mode. But when exporting to a target device (such as a phone), the alpha appears to be ignored. This impacts developers trying to create fade ins/outs of elements in a widget. Has anyone else come across this issue yet? Not sure if this behavior is by design or by error.

I'm new to Android. I recently was an iPhone fan but thought that Android was a better alternative to iPhone. So anyway, I have a few questions about the Captivate. Does Android have support for apps that you can use to password protect certain apps on the phone? Like messages, and photos for more private stuff. Another question I have: is the Captivates reception really bad? I currently have the iPhone 4 while it doesn't have the best of signal, its not too bad either. And my last question is if the captivate has support for 32gb cards. I'm sorry if someones already gone over these but I could find anything right away. Anyways, I look forward to Android and the Captivate.

All of the apps on my phone are stuck in landscape mode. Restarting and recalibrating don't work, nor does turning off auto-rotate. I even set my alarm clock app to portrait (i.e. ignore the rotation of the phone) and it's still on landscape.

I just received a Droid Incredible and I believe it's a great phone, but there is one thing on it that makes it difficult for me to fully enjoy using it. I use the calendar everyday to type meetings, appointments, and reminders. I noticed that when I try to type anything using either calendar (HTC or Google's calendar), the portrait orientation is the only option that is offered. I know that the landscape keyboard is available for everything else (text messages, internet, etc.), but I'm forced to type all of my calendar appointments using the portrait keyboard. This slows down my typing whenever I use the calendar. I tried using the voice to text option to input text, but it is not always accurate. Is there an option under calendars that I did not find that makes it possible for me to type in the landscape orientation or do I need to download an app that will make it possible to type in the calendar using the landscape keyboard?

I have had my evo for about a week now and have had no problems up until now. You know when you want to add a app to the homescreen and hold down until it says add app, add folder, etc. Well wen i press add app it doesn't do anything and sometimes it selects one of the other options. It has been working fine until today, so i am wondering what the problem is.
Ps. I am posting from my evo and just noticed i cannot type the letter d in landscape mode.

Why is it that certain apps or websites don't work in landscape mode and your forced to type whatever with one finger in the portrait mode? Point in case the Google quick search will not switch to landscape mode when you turn the phone sideways.

Just wondering if we can share some "must-have" apps and widgets for the HTC Desires running on 2.2 (FROYO). List your top ten with a description of what they do (if it isnt clear from the app name), cost, and where to find them if not in the "Market".In no particular order:
Apps & Widgets
1. Timeriffic (Free, Market) Lets you schedule tasks for your phone to do at specific times of the day (ie. turn on wifi at 6pm when you will be home then off at 23:00 when you will be in bed)

10. "Where's my droid?" (Free, Market) Text your Desire from another phone with a particular word or sentence of choice and it will turn the volume up (if on silent) and alert you to its whereabouts

Some of the Samsung phones have a toggle bar for GPS, wifi, ect. that can be pulled down from the notification bar. Does anyone know of an app that mimics this? I've looked in the market but didn't find anything that similar. Also a simple 3 button media player option would be useful that way you don't have to switch apps just to skip a song or stop the player. Is there anything like that out there at all?

I am wondering what actually happens with all the apps and widgets that come with Sense UI. I assume none of them will work anymore once the Desire is rooted? Or will they stay and still be useable? Can you download them somewhere again from HTC for example and install on a rooted device?
I heard of custom Roms that will let you root the device and still use some HTC apps. Is that correct or is there no such thing?
Finally, a question that might be a bit of speculation currently. With HTC introducing the new www.htcsense.com website with features such as SMS backup for life, contact editing, app shop, etc.... some of the stuff like the SMS backup sound very interesting but now I am wondering if these features will be available for rooted devices. Anybody has any ideas about that?
Would be kind of unfair if rooted devices could not use this HTC service.

My apps widgets arent updating according to the settings. For example, weather bug widget, and Google finance, and engadget. I have to click into the app itself to get it to appear correctly. Sorta defeats the purpose of a widget! Is there another parent setting that is preventing this?
