Android :: Uninstalling Preinstalled Apps?
May 11, 2010Just got the new HTC Incredible. Awesome phone and this forum has already been a huge help, so I figured I'd join and ask my first question.The phone of course came with some apps already installed. I went to uninstall them, but it doesn't show up. Is there a way to do it with out getting all into moving files and all that stuff? I basically want to get rid of Friend Stream and the Desk Clock (since the other app, Clock, has the desk clock and is the same thing, just a different default setting when you open it).I'd like to maybe ditch the GMail app too, because the Mail app is set up to my gmail and does everything I want it to do.

This is my first android phone (coming from a BB) and I could usually remove apps from the listing of core apps in the desktop software, but haven't learned how to do this with the Android OS. The specific apps I'm talking about are the ones that came on the phone like Twitter, Flickr, and Peep.

An example would be ADW as a launcher. Right now, it boots and immediately goes to the welcome screen for a fresh install of ADW. Jul 11, 2012U mainly wanted to root to remove the unwanted apps preinstalled on my phone because I was tired of running out of space. I rooted successfully via Odin. downloaded root installer and removed the unwanted apps. Then I started playing around with other apps. But now when I try to use any of them I get "app was denied super user permission" and telling me I need to be rooted. I tried factory reset but that didn't work. In fact, I now can't even use app uninstaller to remove those apps.

Dec 2, 2010I have bought a new Xperia X8 but when i tested it at the shop I couldn't find 2 features that should be bloody basic standard for nearly EVERY OS out there. These features are:
1. A standard File-Explorer (for fast cross access of Photos, Sound, Music etc.nearly every mobile phone since 2000 had this feature)
2. A App-Manager to uninstall these tons of preinstalled apps I personaly will never use (like Doodle-Jump, Crazy Penguins etc.)
I am a PC User for aprox. 20 Years now and these features are exteme important for me. However I never really was in a situation where an Operating System came without a file-explorer even Windows 3.11 in the good old days had this feature directly implemented.The Man who sold me the phone said, I should test it at home and when I'm not compfortable with it, I could bring it back but I hope someone here can show me these features.

I don't seem to have Reader listed in my installed apps list.I'm asking because I was going to update to the latest version, but now I'm not sure if I'll be updating or installing it for the first time. Does Froyo natively open PDFs or something? (On a related Adobe note, should I go ahead and install AIR now, in case I need it after Gingerbread comes out? My aunt bought one and I was trying to tell her about it and she said the man at the store said you had to pay $10 a month for GPS on the phone and I told her that was BS unless they specifically blocked it from being installed.
She lives in another city so I won't be able to play with the phone for a while. She looked and said she didn't think she saw the navigation icon.

Apr 24, 2010I tried searching, but couldn't find anything about my question. My Droid came with Facebook preinstalled. Since the latest update for AppBrain, the list of updates available shows an update for Facebook. However, when I go to instal the update I am taken to the main install page. As if I didn't have Facebook installed already. When I got to the app manager in settings, Facebook is not listed as an installed app. Anyone know what is going on? Can I just download the marketplace Facebook app and not worry about there being two instances of Facebook on my system?

Jul 20, 2010There's a new version of Facebook available on the Market, but because the Desire comes with the official Facebook app already installed it doesn't prompt you to update it.When you click to install the version on the Market, the phone is clever enough detect the preinstalled one and applies it as an update, so you don't end up with two Facebook apps in the phone menu or Manage Apps menu. After installing it the Manage Apps option changes from 'Clear data' to 'Uninstall updates' and the version has gone from 114 to 121. You'll also notice that the 'Take photo' tile has now been replaced with 'Inbox'. There's still no option to tag people in images.

I just got my Sprint HTC Hero Android phone and I noticed that it comes preloaded with FACEBOOK. While I know that most people would consider that great, I don't. Do to my job, I am prohibited from using FACEBOOK or MYSPACE and therefore, would have absolutly no use for the application. Please let me know how I can safely delete it so that I can free up memory on my HTC Hero.
