HTC Droid Eris :: Former BlackBerry User Looking For Something To Replace BlackBerry Messenger
Jan 20, 2010I recently came over from using a Blackberry (and using the Blackberry Messenger app), and I am wondering what you all might suggest as an easy way to briefly send quick messages (not using SMS or email) that would be easy to set up on my end and for my Blackberry friends.Currently I do not have any chat systems or instant messaging systems set up (as never used any of that before), so I am hoping you can make your suggestions very simple to understand and set up. I'm somewhat new to all this technology, but I am anxious to learn.

Jan 22, 2010On December I was given an Eris from my beautiful wife, (I have her a jewelry torch and jewelry making tools). And started playing with the Eris. By the end of the day I was hooked. From the touch screen to the apps, it's just so much fun. Does anyone REGRET going Android after the world of Blackberry?

Jan 18, 2010Before eris, i had a bb 8330 curve. now, i love my eris, but i hate the vibrate/silent thing. i'd like to be able to set things up the way i had them on my curve with the profiles...sms/mms buzz once, phone calls buzz 3 times, or some things silent others buzz, etc. and no, i dont capitalize. deal with it, grammar-nazis, i iz lernt gud.

Feb 3, 2010Can I use my Blackberry charger on my Eris? My chargers are next to each other and I accidentally plugged it in the other day. It fit and the Eris's battery indicator showed that it was charging. I immediately unplugged it for fear of doing it harm. Are they compatible from a power perspective?

Jan 26, 2010"Given that I am in the process of switching from my Sprint HTC Hero over to a Verizon HTC DROID Eris I have been paying more attention lately to accessories for the Eris, one of which was extended batteries. Personally I am not really sure that I need one, but at the same time, a little extra juice is always a welcomed option for a smartphone especially when you are a heavy user.That said, it seems that Seidio has two options available, a 1750mAh and a 3500mAh which are selling for $49.95 and $69.95 respectively.The main difference here, aside from the 3500 offering more juice (and being more expensive) is that the 1750 model was designed to fit with the original battery cover. And that means no extra thickness. The 3500mAh battery on the other hand will add some extra thickness, though its said to only be 3-4mm. The nice part here is that this battery does come with the replacement back cover.

Oct 6, 2010I am currently on my second Eris and I am having problems with my trackball not responding and something screwy with my camera not saving my pictures.
Right now I would rather pay to downgrade to another phone like a BB or even pay full retail value for a completely different Droid because I am afraid if they send me another Eris it is just going to break again.
If I call VZW and talk to them, will they send me another Eris that will most likely to break or will they send me a D1 or an Incredible?
I love my Eris but i just can't use it anymore and i feel like i will keep having problems if they keep sending me refurbs.

I use mobile device mainly for work related tasks (phone, email, calendar, etc). Any comments would be greatly appreciated. If anyone else has moved from BB to Droid and has other things they miss (besides BBM) please respond.- Lack of email search for exchange email. Almost an instant deal breaker. Is this in the works to be fixed? - Ability to operate with one hand (phone, email, etc). Very easy to dial a contact from BB home screen simply by typing their name. - Speed of typing. I send emails from my BB even when sitting in front of computer. The BB is very easy to use and type on. - Look up internal users on BES. Great for getting contact info of person at company that I don't have in my address book.

Nov 30, 2009I want to add my gmail settings to the native mail app and use that for gmail instead of using the gmail app. I dont like how you cant attach a file other than a photo using the gmail app and I like the layout of the native mail app.If you add your gmail account to the native mail app can you still receive push email? I plan on disabling the sync settings for google in the main settings but that shouldn't affect an account added to the main mail app.

Jun 23, 2010Hey everybody, I've looked for an answer on here, but to no avail. I tried to root my replacement Eris with 1.5, and HBOOT 1.47. Everything was going well until it got to the point of making a recovery, which for some reason, my phone wouldn't let me do. Infuriated and frustrated, I followed the steps to go back to 1.5 to a tee. However, I miss Vlingo so much, and i went to install the OTA 2.1, and it aborted the installation. I now have HBOOT 1.49.2000, so does my phone basically think I have the 2.1v3 leak, or am I just flat-out screwed? Done multiple factory resets, etc. and they haven't helped either

Jun 4, 2010This is driving me crazy. The phone is pretty much useless when this starts happening. I will be on the Main home screen and then it will start jumping Home screens as if I'm swiping to the left but I'm NOT swiping! Once it is on the last screen to the left it won't let me switch back to HOME. I can almost never do anything when this happens. I haven't dropped the phone. I've reset the G-Sensor. Has anyone experianced this? I've even done a Wipe of the device.

Feb 16, 2010I've searched the forums and looked at the Sticky above, but it doesn't seem to answer the question. We have one staff member here that bought a Droid Eris (Verizon) and unlike the Motorola Droid, I can't get this phone setup via Active Sync to our exchange server. I setup his account on my phone (M Droid) and it worked perfectly...messages, contacts and calendar all synced up fine. I go back to his Eris, and it says the account cannot be created at this time. All the settings are the same etc., so I'm a little stumped. I called Verizon and they said to wait for the new 2.0 upgrade that's supposed to be coming, but they weren't sure if that had been addressed or not. Am I missing something, or does the HTC Droid Eris not fully work with Active Sync with MS Exchange 2003?

Jan 27, 2010When i get an email (gmail) and I attempt to download the rest of the message, it gives me an error and tells me that there's not enough space and instructs me to delete messages. After deleting almost all messages, i still get the same error.
Do the messages get stored on my card or device? SHould i delete my podcasts that rest on my card?
