HTC Droid Eris :: WiFi Not Staying Connected
Jan 25, 2010I read the other posts about WiFi but mine seems a little different. This just started happening a few days ago. I understand that when the phone goes to sleep it shuts off it's WiFi thats fine although I'd rather it not but eh whatcha gonna do about it. The problem I have is that after it wakes back up it says that it's scanning for networks. I have a lot of WiFi networks in my neighborhood and none of them show up. The work around I've found for this for the time being is to shut the WiFi off and then turn it back on. When I do this it connects back to my WiFi and life goes on.

Apr 18, 2010I have 3bars of service for wifi strength and when I try to go to the market place, or even the internet,I cant connect? I've tried switching with mobile data on and off and same thing happens.I have no problem getting on line with digital coverage tho.

Mar 21, 2010I tried using home switcher to make calls but the same problem occurs. I can make a call, If I try to make a call after, the phone will lag on dialing then if it does connect I can't hear. If I receive a call it will answer but no sound. This happened after 2.1. I even did a factory reset and followed the upgrading instructions, everything else is fine except for this.

Dec 1, 2009I know wi-fi has been mentioned but no one seems to really know. Is there anyone out there who knows why I cannot connect to my wi-fi at home? I have a mac address filter on my router and I put in the correct mac address of my Eris more than once as well and the security settings. I was able to connect my Nintendo DSi with no problem. So when I set up my wi-fi connection, it says it's not in range but remembered. At my job I was able to connect to the wi-fi with no problem. Could it be something with my router? Just wondering if anyone has any ideas or clues.

Jun 5, 2010I have an Eris with Android v. 2.1 and a Belkin 54g router. The phone lists my home network in its list of of wifi networks. When I press the entry, an info box says that signal strength is good and security is open. (for the purpose of trying to have my phone connect). When I press "connect," it says "Obtaining IP address." Then after a couple of minutes, it says "Unsuccessful."
My phone has connected to other WiFi networks with no problem; indeed, it has done so automatically, with no effort on my part. My router assigns IP addresses via DHCP. It also broadcasts its SSID, which the phone recognizes.

Jul 26, 2010I'm not sure if this is just me, but it's kind of strange. My web browsing goes 10X faster if I'm not tonnected to my Wifi at home. I have a wireless G setup, and the phone is connected to it with full signal strength. Is anyone else having a similar problem?

Aug 6, 2010I re-flashed evil eris 4 today, & before I did I wiped data/factory then wiped dalvic. When I rebooted & got to the set up screen(set up google account ect.) the wifi worked! so I hit the toggle,& turned it off to make sure the 3G worked. Ever since then I cannot connect to my home wifi.

Jun 4, 2010This is driving me crazy. The phone is pretty much useless when this starts happening. I will be on the Main home screen and then it will start jumping Home screens as if I'm swiping to the left but I'm NOT swiping! Once it is on the last screen to the left it won't let me switch back to HOME. I can almost never do anything when this happens. I haven't dropped the phone. I've reset the G-Sensor. Has anyone experianced this? I've even done a Wipe of the device.

Apr 22, 2010I recently activated my old Blackberry Curve because of my frustration with certain features on my Eris. I thought that I would still be able to browse the Internet on my Eris using wifi only but it's not really working. The reason I say "not really" is because I can do a Google search and look at Google News, etc, but I can't really go anywhere else. If I click on a link, or select one of my bookmarks, it just sits there and eventually times out. Does anyone understand why this won't work? When my Eris was activated, I could use wifi in areas where I had no cell coverage. I may reactivate my Eris soon.... I do miss the fun of it. Also the call quality is somewhat better than my Curve - although the Curve gets better reception in marginal signal areas. Love my Curve for push email and the real keyboard. When it's time for an upgrade, I am going to have a hard time deciding whether to go with the latest Blackberry or Android phone. If they come out with a top of the line android phone with a good physical keyboard (not like the Droid's) I will be very tempted.

Jan 30, 2010I USED to be able to transfer files to my Vista32 machine from my Droid Eris (and vice versa) perfectly fine.
WHAT USED TO HAPPEN:
1) Connect Droid Eris to computer via mini-USB/USB cable
2) A little ding from the computer indicates it recognizes something was plugged into the USB port
3) the "safely remove hardware icon" would appear in the system tray of my computer
4) A "USB Connected" Notification would appear up in the notification bar of my Eris
5) Drag the notification bar down and select the "USB Connected" Notification
6) A prompt would come up on my Eris asking me if I'd like to "Mount"...I would.
7) A dialog would open on my computer asking me if I'd like to "Open files to view folders" along with a bunch of other options. In "My Computer" I'd see a drive "F:" for the Eris
8) Move files to and fro
9) When done moving files: close out all windows, open the "safely remove hardware" and click until hardware could safely be removed, unplug USB cable
THE RELATIONSHIP CHANGING EVENT:
Then one day while the USB cable was plugged in and I was happily transferring files I noticed that the safely remove hardware icon wasn't there. Once I was finished transferring files I thought, "Oh well, I'll make sure to close out all Eris related files/folders and just unplug the USB cable." Apparently that was a mistake. (3,7,8,9 are different from before while 1,2,4,5 are the same):
WHAT HAPPENS NOW:
1) Connect Droid Eris to computer via mini-USB/USB cable
2) A little ding from the computer indicates it recognizes something is plugged into the USB port
3) NO safely remove hardware icon appears
4) A "USB Connected" Notification appears up in the notification bar of my Eris
5) Drag the notification bar down and select the "USB Connected" Notification
6) A prompt comes up on my Eris asking me if I'd like to "Mount"...I would. (after selected the notifications changes to read "Select to turn off USB storage" indicating that the phone thinks something has happened
7) NO dialog opens on my computer and NO new drive appears in "My Computer"
8) I'm NOT able to move files to and fro
9) I just remove the cable
BIZARRE UPDATE:
1) I select the "HTC Sync"
notification on my Eris (Really no reason to do this. I don't have HTC Sync installed on my computer and have no need to use it. Just thought I'd select it and see what happens)
2) After some time, dialog "Next Step" comes up reading that the Eris is "Unable to find HTC Sync on [my] PC...". I select "OK"
3) Now a "safely remove hardward icon" appears in the system tray of my computer and I'm able to do all the file transferring I want, close, safely remove hardware, and start again.
ANOTHER PIECE OF INFO:
What "USED" to happen works perfectly find on my roommate's Vista32 machine indicating that there's maybe something funny happening on the PC side of my Eris-PC debacle.
Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 :: WiFi Worked Fine But Not Connected To Home Wireless
Oct 29, 2010I had a new phone that the phone company forced me to block by not giving me the correct code for unlock (which I paid the phone company for), and they said sorry and after 5 mths with a new phone in a box (while in another country and not being able to use it), they decided to exchange the phone. They exchanged the phone and wouldnt give me a new one since the original problem wasn't reported before 7 days after purchase, but 9 days pff. The exchange is refurbished or something but is perfectly new looking and works amazingly well.
It connected to like 2-3 networks while I was away in that country getting the phone changed and now I'm back home and it will not connect to my home connection. I have changed every thing around and back and I have verified all settings, WiFi on and off. Hard reset - it will not connect. It says searching and then connection and then disconnected etc. Doesn't even say obtaining IP addy or anything. It doesn't say anything or give errors at all, it just will not connect.
HTC Droid Eris :: Charger Won't Stay Connected ?
Jun 1, 2010Recently whenever I plug my phone into the charger or a mini USB cable it won't stay connected unless I hold it there. Would this be due to the cable or the actual plug on the bottom of the phone coming loose?
I had this happen with an LG Chocolate before and had to get it replaced.

Nov 28, 2009I noticed that if I leave the OEM Eris USB cable plugged into my tower & Eris that the tower will freeze just after CMOS flash screen during PC boot up. It took me a few minutes to figure it out and I do not know what would cause that.

HTC Droid Eris :: Slow WiFi Speed On Droid Eris 1.5
Mar 15, 2010My Eris does not seem to be taking advantage of the WiFi speed capabilities of my home network. I just tested my network in multiple ways. I'm getting good connection speeds on all devices EXCEPT my Eris. Here's what I did:
1. I went to Speakeasy.net and tested the hard wired internet connection speed to my PC. The result was 22 mbps down.
2. I tested the wireless connection speed to my laptop, also via Speakeasy.net. Again, 22 mbps.
3. I tested the wireless connection speed to my wife's iMac, also via Speakeasy.net. Once again, 22 mbps
4. I tested the connection speed on my Eris (repeatedly) via a speed test app that I downloaded from the Market. Only 2.5 mbps.
5. I loaded the Speakeasy.net website in my Eris' Android browser and ran the same test. Only 2.9 mbps. So, all wired and wireless devices in the house are getting ~ 22 mbps, while my Eris is getting significantly less. Specifications:
-Eris is running default Android 1.5 OS
- Home wireless router is a Netgear Wireless-N Router model # WNR2000 running in WPA-PSK [AES] security mode. "Mode" is set to the highest -- "Up to 300 mbps."

Sep 8, 2010It's done this twice now (before and after factory reset). 2.1 OTA, not rooted.
Whenever I turn on the wifi, or I become in range of my WPA2 network, it doesn't always connect. I say "always" because it seems to be random. If I toggle wifi on or off, it doesn't always connect. Sometimes it connects after 30+ seconds. Every other device connects just fine.
The only sure way to get it to connect is to force it to rescan, usually by going to Settings and displaying all SSIDs in range. THEN it connects, always and immediately.
The even sillier thing is, it will alert me of open networks, but never connect to my own saved network.

Mar 29, 2010I just installed lock 2.0 and i was just adjusting the settings and now every time I'm in my phone and i touch the "Home" button it locks my phone instead of taking me back to my home screen! Is this normal? Did I accidental do it in the settings? HELP its driving me crazy

Dec 6, 2009I got my Eris only a few days after playing with an iPod for the first time.Besides the widgets feature, there is an aspect of the iPod interface that I like better than Android.I like how the "Home" of an iPod lists all of the installed apps, but you can move them to different pages to categorize them.With Android, I go through the market and add a bunch of apps, but then I have to go add each one to one of the Home pages. Apr 19, 2010Does anyone know of any good home replacements on 1.5? I've only used sense, home, and slidescreen, none of which I am super happy with. Helix Launcher looks great, but I think is only 2.1.
