When purchasing the eris I had it in mind to possibly trade stocks from scottrade mobile, or pay my cell phone bill via it. How secure is this device to put important passwords into it?

Many of my users have requested a password protection for various data elements in my database. Unfortunately, one of my existing features is backing up the database to a public location (SD Card) for data redundancy, so my database isn't secure.
So my question is two-fold.
How can I encrypt or secure a database on android?
How can I store user created passwords on the device in a secure, inaccessible way.
I'm implementing a feature that requires a password, is it safe to store using SharedPreferences.Editor? Is there another recommended way for storing passwords?

My question is kind of specific to an application and general to the nature of a rooted device. I have been playing World of Warcraft for 5 years now and with the always present threat of being hacked and all of my in-game items, characters and account being stolen I added the mobile authenticator app as soon as it was available for Android devices. For those who don't know what this is, it is an app which you add to your in game account and will generate a key which you put in upon login that adds an extra layer of security to your account.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was finally able to come up with secure way to mount my Eris to my Road bike, although I believe it is secure enough to work on a mountain bike to but I will have to try that later. I had been looking for a while to find a way to attach my Eris to my bike without the use of bulky devices like the universal one from the bike store. I finally saw the Shell / Holster Combo at Verizon and decided to give it a try.
I purchased the Combo from Verizon for $23. Here is a link to the Combo. I have attached pictures. This Combo seems very durable so I think it is a good fit for this job. It says the phone is supposed to be faced in, but the holster doesn't appear to be causing any problems with the phone its just a snug fit. Which is what I want anyway..................
I'm sure I'm not the only one with naughty pics of my girl friend or other girls on my phone that I don't want the girl friend, other girls, or friends and people in general to see...
Is there a way to put these files in a secure/passwored folder on the SD card that the "Albums" or any other video/pic app can't access? Besides keeping my phone locked, I don't want someone accidently flicking through the photo album and stumble upon these. Also I noticed even switching the Wallpaper shows all the pics on the phone.
I have an idea of an app called "Stash" where you can move any files (maybe even contacts/texts) to a particular place on the SD card that the phone can not find.
My laptop has 3 security levels for when using WiFi. For a home WiFi the least secure and a public WiFi the most secure. I'm using a public WiFi now and have searched my tablet settings for those sort of options, but can't find anything.

I want to ensure that only the mobile device can perform actions on the web service and vice versa. Data doesn't need to be encrypted. I know Oauth, but it seems that it's more used to secure connections when you got 3 different entities (Server, Consumer and Auth). Here, the Consumer and the User would be the same person. Is there a simple protocol to do that (without requiring the user to login and then authorize the access token like it is the case for Oauth)? I need to use it on different plateforms, so the protocol needs to be available at least on iPhone and PHP.

I don't even get the HTC Sync notification in the status bar of my Eris. I used to be able to do it on my old computer before it died on me.

2. reception - heres the thing.. i live in southern Maine, we currently have two Motorola phones on the USCC network. Somehow despite having good coverage in our area our home is a dead spot for USCC and ATT. My parents have Verizon phones which have a moderate signal ( 2+ bars ).Will the Driod Eris have a descent signal if my parents phone does okay... i am aware i can turn off the mobile network to allow for 1x signal.. ( if i am correct )

Instead, I get a server communication error. I was wondering if someone has or could create a list of the needed files on the SD card so I can delete the ones I don't need. I have folders for apps which I don't have on my phone anymore and i don't want to remove them if it is going to mess something up.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Eris with Android v. 2.1 and a Belkin 54g router. The phone lists my home network in its list of of wifi networks. When I press the entry, an info box says that signal strength is good and security is open. (for the purpose of trying to have my phone connect). When I press "connect," it says "Obtaining IP address." Then after a couple of minutes, it says "Unsuccessful."
My phone has connected to other WiFi networks with no problem; indeed, it has done so automatically, with no effort on my part. My router assigns IP addresses via DHCP. It also broadcasts its SSID, which the phone recognizes.
At one time I thought I could edit (aka change) a previous event by:
1) Selecting the date on the calendar view
2) Selecting the event
3) This brings me to the "Event details". When the the screen opens I see the whole edit menu for a moment. Then I only see the event with date and time and a line that says "my calendar" with an icon. The menu's only choices are "add reminder", "delete" and "share vCalendar".
At one time I had an way of editing the event. I just cannot figure out how to do it now.
