Now that I have 2.1 and have been playing with Google Maps /NAV, I was wondering if anyone knows of a device of some type that can hold the Eris up in the dash like a "real GPS" ( I think that Motorola has device for their Droid).

My phone unlocked in my pocket I have a droid eris btw. I also have the lockpattern where you connect he dots set up.
In my pocket it did the wrong lock pattern five times and now it is asking me to put my email and password in to unlock it. The problEm is that the keyboard does not come up even when I hold menu.
I plan on buying a car in a few months, and I have this grand dream of replacing the radio/nav stuff with a connected Android tablet, probably the Tab 7.0+ on TMo. I'd have Google Maps and all my music with Google's Car Home interface resting right in the dash.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI have an old beat up Motorola Droid 1 that I've been using as a dedicated dash cam in my car and it's been working great except the battery life isn't great. I keep it in Airplane Mode and it is always connected to the charger but it only charges when the car is running, so when I'm not driving the phone stays on and after a day it dies. Need increasing the battery life? It's rooted and running a custom ROM (Bugless Beast) v0.5 which is Android 2.2) so I'm able to disable any unnecessary apps or services that aren't being used. I'll never use it as anything except a dash cam so even things like GPS are unnecessary. I don't have any apps installed besides the ones used for the dash cam functions.
I keep the phone in a windshield mount and it stays plugged in and I have an app called AutomateIt that detects power whenever I turn on the ignition and it opens up another app called DailyRoads which is set to automatically start recording once opened. I then have AutomateIt set to detect when the power source is shut off and it closes DailyRoads at that point. It works great and all videos are saved to the phone's microSD card. To save space I disabled audio recording so only video is recorded. Finally, I have a tiny wide-angle lens glued over the phone's regular camera lens so that there's a much wider field of view than normal. The more I capture the better.
I have a Milestone (Droid) which I think is excellent, but I'm struggling with the hard keyboard - I haven't found a way of holding the handset comfortably while using the keyboard efficiently.

The setting would let you hold the phone "upside down" while the keyboard is out(make the screen the screen show upside down as well of course). That way its the tradional.dpad on left and buttons on right. I sent this to the programmer.but no luck. I dont think it would be too hard to keep your hands away from the screen and still play comfortably.

This is a deal breaker for me and im sure lots of people will use the navigation with the dash mount but this will stop lots of sales of the clip/case combo. hopefully seideo or someone will think of this and make a case that will work for both belt clip and dash mount. Looks like the protection film guys will get lots of business from this.
For those of you who have the phone already....as the title states, will the kickstand hold the phone upright ? Although, it may be a bit risky of it tipping over.

View 1 Replies View Relatedthe worst thing about the nexus one is that you power on the phone by simply pressing the power button, not by *holding* it. how can I just *check* if the phone is turned off? when i go to a movie, i just want to double-check it's off, so i short-press power button but then if it's already off then i would instead be turning it on and have to wait for the long boot-up process. i just can't "make sure it's off".

View 13 Replies View RelatedI, like everyone esle, am waiting on the Epic 4g but I have a theory on why Sprint will continue to hold off on the Epic, the Evo Shortage. Currently there is a shortage of HTC Evo's, and waiting lists for them at all the stores in my area. Last store I checked with had a waiting list of 70 people. Sprint actually stands to lose money if they released the Epic 4g before they filled the EVO orders. My prediction is we wont' see the Epic 4g released until the Evo shortage issue is resolved. If they have 70 people on a list for Evo's that's 70 guarenteed sales. anything they sell with the Epic is a bonus. if they release the epic too soon the people waiting for evo's could just get Epics and then they lose their bonus Epic Sales. Just a thought big business doesn't think "how can we make our customers happiest" they think "how can we make the most money out of the situation".

I just became aware of the issue on Saturday night.I had the phone on a table and was holding it horizontally-I was trying to get it to switch to landscape view (so I could use full keyboard ) and could not get it to do so. The only sure way I can get it to switch to landscape view is to hold the phone vertically and then have it switch.Is there something wrong with the phone?

Well it works really well at my job (inside a big building) where I usually hover at 100db but using this method I get about 88-90db and adds 2 bars.
So my question is can I do something (or add something) that will duplicate that effect without having to hold my phone with a couple of fingers?
Is anyone having serious problems with their call waiting? When I get a call while in a current call, my phone automatically puts the first call on hold, and answers the second call without giving me the option.

2. reception - heres the thing.. i live in southern Maine, we currently have two Motorola phones on the USCC network. Somehow despite having good coverage in our area our home is a dead spot for USCC and ATT. My parents have Verizon phones which have a moderate signal ( 2+ bars ).Will the Driod Eris have a descent signal if my parents phone does okay... i am aware i can turn off the mobile network to allow for 1x signal.. I just got a Blu Dash 3.5, and for some reason Google Play thinks it's incompatible with my phone (same with Calendar, but I can live without that for now.) I tried searching for a Google Voice APK on the forums and was able to side load install it and run it, but it kept running into mysterious connection errors when logging in.
Is there any way I can get Google Voice running on this thing? The phone is running 2.3.5. URL.....
