HTC Droid Eris :: Blank Screen During Calls
Dec 7, 2009When i make a call my screen goes blank and I can't get it back on. It will come back on when I hit the end button. But can't access it during a call. What can I do?

Motorola Droid :: Screen Goes Blank During Calls
Apr 17, 2010I have seen this buried within a couple of other threads, and thought it was worth starting a new thread on this issue, since I suspect it is getting more common. The issue is immediately when placing or receiving calls the screen goes blank, and locks up. I can not press the bottom on top right to wake it up. The only thing that wakes it up, is to open it to the keyboard. This started yesterday, I called Verizon and was transferred to Technical Support, Technical support tried to blame it on a Battery widget that I installed several days earlier. I told her my sister has had it on her Droid for months with no problems, she said I probably had a bad version. Even though I was not convinced, I removed the widget from my phone to test the fix, but it still died. Then she told me to hard reset, and again I was not convinced, so I took it in to a Verizon store, after 5 minutes the Technician decided to give a me new phone. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Apr 20, 2010Had a HTC desire now for a couple of weeks and Ive come across an annoying problem, when I make or recieve a call and raise the phone to my head the screen goes blank which in it's self is fine, but after the call has concluded the screen remains blank and there appears to be know why to get it to leap back into life ive tried moving /jiggling the phone and pressing all the buttons including the power, the only way seems to be to remove the battery and force a reboot. Anyone else experienced this or have any ideas that might help solve it?

My screen goes blank and requires me to press left hand button on the phone to get the screen up and open before I can press the end call on the touch screen. Jun 26, 2010The Eris has been a good phone for me except the mentioned issues. The fix the worked for me was to remove the appollo software task manager. It kept closing something I xouldnt see and caused me issue. I went from 5 resets a day to 5 days and no reset. I now use task manager 1.11.9 with 0 issues.

Sep 22, 2010My Eris has been acting very buggy. I am running the OTA OS 2.1. (I have not rooted my phone.) Please excuse me if I sound fairly ignorant about my phone in this post. I'm not very technical.
My phone has very little internal memory left. I read that I needed to delete all apps I wasn't using, clear cache, export contacts to sd card, import contacts from phone back on and then delete any unused contacts. I've done all of that and my avail internal memory is still only 50 MB.
My screen freezes on occassion when making or receiving calls. I seem to miss occassional calls. And there is considerable lag.
These probably all sound like silly problems but like I said, I'm not very technical. I've read others have some of the same issues.. And like I said, I tried some of the solutions mentioned.

Jul 3, 2010Not sure if this is technically the "silent bug" but calls do not even show up on the phone, they just appear as "missed call from...." no noise no other notification. I restarted phone but it did it again right away. Phone does show the 50% bug in battery info.

(I'm in IT - I understand people make simple mistakes.)Every time she power cycles the phone, specifically when it powers up - it sends a blank text message to one of her contacts, the same one every time. Needless to say *her ex* is getting tired of it.Since the recent update it's now sending blank messages to 2 of her contacts. Has anyone else experienced this? How can I help diagnose the issue?

Dec 22, 2009Well, what happened was my screen turned blank. I could not turn off the phone. It was just blank. The buttons on the bottom of the phone will light on and off when pressing the power button. What am i suppose to do in this situation or any other situation where my Droid isnt acting right? Well, i didnt know what to do so i just took out the battery and put it back in. I am not sure if thats the proper way of doing it. I hope my phone will be okay after that. Alright call me cheap, but I only have the $5 250 messages on my plan but it suits me just fine I never go over.Well i just got my bill and wouldnt you know I went over by almost double. Turns out more often then I thought I was sending blank texts and double texts. People weren't saying anything to me because they thought that it was just user error but when it kept happening people finally started saying something to me.Its not worth trying to argue with verizon over it, its like $14, so I will just up my plan a bit, but just watch it.For some of you its moot because you have unlimited, but for those that dont just thought I would share.

Jul 8, 2010so been rooted for quite some time now, got my droid out of my pocket and its just a blank screen.Tried multiple battery pulls, memory card pulls, boots into recovery, nothing will get it to reboot again. its essentially bricked.I wasn't flashing anything battery was just charged, everythign was fine, 800mhz kernel.Now my question is can I return this phone to the Verizon store and still be under warranty, I've had the phone the day it came out with no problems.I think the screen just went out, I can still move the buttons on the screen even when they don't show, and I can also lock the phone with the lock button. Still will I be okay returning this on warranty with the screen out and rooted?

Dec 2, 2010This was reported in the other thread about X8 Issues, but thought to start a new one to gather feedback from users. It's about the ''black screen'' freezing issue encountered by some users. I have had this several times since owning the phone for a few weeks, so it is a recurring issue. Problem: The phone hangs or appears to be shut down or become unresponsive suddenly. Pressing the hardware buttons doesn't help as the phone doesn't react at all. Solution: Take out cover and battery and restart.Observations: From my own observations, it's not actually a shutdown but a major freezing/hanging. Sometimes when it happens, I can still see vague shades of the display at an angle. After leaving the phone for a while in the pocket, the phone comes back to normal again. Not sure if this is true for all users with this problem. Anyway, gathering more feedback to see how prevalent the problem is, to evaluate whether I should take it to the SE service centre, or whether doing so will help at all.

Jul 14, 2010Some background info: I got an HTC Evo a few days after the initial launch. I had no problems with the screen at first at least for a few weeks. Then all of a sudden, the screen would go blank after I took the phone off the charger, or would finish a call, and a few other instances. After dealing with that for a little over a week, I took the Evo back to sprint and got a brand new one. I looked all over the forums, but could not find any answers. I know some others are having this issue, but it doesn't seem that widespread. So I get the new phone, and for the first day, I don't install any of the apps I had on the last phone because of a lack of time. No problems to report the first day of use, so I think I'm in the clear. The next day I start installing all of the apps I had on the first Evo, and bang, it starts to happen again. The screen goes blank, and I can do nothing to turn it on except to pull the battery out and restart the phone which is a monster pain. After all of this, I have to think its a software issue. Some app I have running could be causing this? How likely is it that 2 Evo's have this exact same problem, and that it's hardware related? Here is a list of apps I have installed on my phone: maui9111's Apps on the phone. I tried uninstalling several of them, but still can't find the solution. Anyone have any ideas? I love this phone, but this issue is driving me nuts!

Jul 25, 2010The thing is that time to time my device does not respond to screen touch. For instance: then there is an incoming call it stays blank and I can not see who is calling and at the same time not able to answer it.
Touching the screen does nothing, only after pushing hard buttons, I am able to terminate the call. Also, when I am trying to access the OS from sleep mode by pressing the power button--there is no home screen--it stays blank. The only thing it does---the lights go on the home, menu, back and search buttons.
I did contact ot HTC help service and they told me to try to use the device in safe mode for two days. (this should terminate all 3rd party applications, that might cause the issue). Its my first day that I am use is in the safe mode and so far I do not experience any problems.
I do suspect that the reason of my problem could be the task killer that I am using in order to eliminator some programs running in background. But I did try out several task killers so far, however the issue remains the same

Sep 30, 2010I have an HTC Desire and I managed to break the LCD. I had the LCD and touchscreen replaced (don't ask long story) and now I have the following issue: When I make a call and even before I lift the phone to my ear the screen goes blank. None of the buttons work but the call is fine - I can be heard/hear the other person. When the other person ends the call the phone bips to tell me the call is over, but the screen stays blank. I can re-activate the screen by receiving a missed call - ie calling my phone and then hanging up re-activates the screen. In addition, when my phone rings the screen is fine, but as soon as I answer the call and lift the phone to my ear the screen goes off as before. The only other way to bring the screen back is to remove the battery. Whilst the screen is blank I loose all touch-screen capability too. Everything else on the phone works perfectly, sync to email, text, GPS, camera, internet etc all not a problem.

Oct 31, 2010So I have had my Evo for about 2 weeks, and all of a sudden when I am in an app, then hit the home button, I am presented with a blank home screen for sometimes up to 15 seconds then all of my widgets and icons appear. It is actually quite annoying now that it is doing this almost every other time I go back to the home screen. It even happens when I hit the back button sometimes to get back to any one of my 5 home screens.Has anyone else had this issue?
