HTC Desire :: Is Gold Card Must For Apps2sd?
Jun 20, 2010So I've rooted my Desire at last and have now got FW version 2.1-update 1 with software v 1.15.405.4 installed. Sorry in advance for the nooby Q's but the apps2sd is getting me all confused here a bit. I've also bought the premium version of ROM Manager, it has the facilty to look for the most popular roms for your particular android phone. I picked out (randomly really) the Shadowfrost 0.5 rom and it's currently (slowly) downloading! I've got a 16gb sandisk SD card that I have just copied everything over onto my PC. There's also a function in rom manager to partition the SD card that I might use too. If it allocates a 512mb Ext3 partition and the rest as fat32 for my pics music etc....will that be it?

Sep 21, 2010In the thread that has a guide to rooting with unrevoked 3 it states that you should have a 2gig available on the sd card, but also states if you have less than 4 gigs available you must format. Is it ok then to format the card if its only 2gigs to being with and root it that way? Sorry sounds confusing, I'm just wondering if 2gigs is enough.

Sep 20, 2010so just rooted using unrevoked3, i did so without a memory card in the phone (forgot i had earlier taken it out) and had a message on the phone about couldnt find sd storage. well anyway unrevoked3 said that rooting was done and i do have the user permissions app in my app drawer. just wondering could there be anything that is not on my phone now because i didnt have sd storage in?

Sep 24, 2010I have a desire I wish to root. I have version 2.1 stock and understand that unrevoked 3.14 might be the best option. Thing is I cannot find this version, it always brings up 3.21 which I don't think will work. Is there a better way to go about this? I use a mac.

Jul 23, 2010i have just gotten my HTC EVO 4G 5 gays ago and I AM LOVING IT !! But, as i was searching all over the internet, the word "Rooting" came up a lot. So i figured , "hey ! why not try it?!" I wanna try and use UnrEVOked but I know nothing about Rooting and such.
1) What will rooting do to my phone?
2) Will it void my warranty?
3) Is it only temporary?
4) Will it help me save battery life?

Sep 8, 2010I am trying to root my EVO and getting stuck at a certain point.I am following the instructions/videos found here:[GUIDE] How to root Android 2.2 on the EVO 4G - xda-developers.I have followed the directions successfully up until I am instructed to me to boot with HBOOT USB and then remove the battery to restart, and run reflash.exe.I am stuck running unrevoked (reflash); the phone does not display the console but rather boots normally. The first time running reflash seems to be working normally until it reboots and searches for the phone, at which point hangs. Any attempt to restart the process will hang at Pushing Recovery Image. I have waited patiently over 10 minutes for each.After the phone fully boots it my computer lists in Device Manager now lists my phone under ADB Interface.I am using windows 7. I have USB debugging I have removed HTC sync (still have HTC drivers installed) and installed the Android Bootloader Drivers. I also am running reflash.exe as Admin.

Sep 13, 2010After a lot of thought, I finally decided I would root my Moment even the whole bricking issue had me really worried. I decided to try it anyway. I got it all done last night well, I think I did. I never actually went into anything that verified that I had rooted it just assumed it was rooted after the instructions I was reading said it was. Well within these instructions was a link to the SDX website where I could download a custom update zip, and had a link to create my own update zip, so I chose to create my own. I'm not sure if I made some wrong choices while creating the zip or what, but now I am having some major trouble.
After creating my zip, I placed it on my SD card. Then, I shut the phone down, and started it up in recovery mode (maybe that's what it's called.... volume down, talk, and end buttons). I went to apply from SD, or something like that, and then went to the custom zip I had just downloaded. The phone did it's thing, said it was installed and then said I need to reboot. I did.
I've not been able to get into my phone since. It gets to the Samsung splash screen, finishes it's animation, and then nothing. It's just black. It won't do anything at all until I take the battery out and put it back in. Then, I am able to get to any of the startup screens or whatever they're called, but no matter what, always goes black after Samsung Splash.It could be that the phone is actually starting, but just not showing me a screen....not sure about that.Well, I read a little bit, and decided I would try to fix it by installing a different update zip, so I put my sd card into my laptop and removed the custom zip. Then, I put the SD card back into my phone and ran the joeykrim zip again. It's still doing the same thing.Has anyone got any ideas for me here?? I am so sick that I decided to do this. I sure hope it's worth it in the end.
HTC Incredible :: Unrevoked3 - Having Trouble Rooting
Sep 29, 2010I've searched for hours for this, so I apologize if it's answered elsewhere, I simply can not find a solution that works.when I start up Unrevoked for the Incredible, it says to plug my phone in. I do that, making sure it says debug mode is enabled in the drop-down pane. But the unrevoked screen doesn't change I've tried:
- mounting as disk drive
- "charge only"
- one Windows XP PC and one Windows 7 PC
- removed PdaNet and tried those options again
Nothing gets me past that screen. I tried looking for an HTC Sync app to uninstall, or setting to disable (since it says "make sure it is NOT installed"), but I wasn't able to find anything.
HTC Desire :: SD Card After Rooting And Going To 2.2
Jul 25, 2010I have just used the instructions on this forum to first root my phone, and then install New 2.2 on to my desire. What a improvement in performance and Shockwave flash works. But I can't install on to my SD Card at all. If I download a app from the market (or my pc) which is set to install on extrenal storage (SD Card), it downloads and the installation fails. I also can't use APP 2 SD as when I try and copy to memory it fails. so if I then unmount my SD Card, and install the same app, it installs and works fine. So do I need to do something to my SD Card?

I can download the software from my phone but can't install them. I also tried SE update service and PC companion. Update Service just says my phone is up to date and exits.PC companion says the same thing "your phone is up to date". I read somewhere today that you cantnot update ur phone after rooting it so I tried to repair my phone using PC companion but that failed too. I got a download error and something about checking my internet connection. I was wondering if anyone knows a way of flashing my phone with the original u20i generic uk so i can update again.

Feb 7, 2010Im trying to root my hero using pre kitchen but its not going threw i run the diagnostics text before you root everything checks out good. I have tried to root by having checked the box (with google) and tried it by not checking it. When my phone reboots i get the exclamation mark with a little phone on it. HTC Incredible :: Rooting My Incredible With Unrevoked 3 Stuck At Waiting For Root
Nov 30, 2010I had a rooted Incredible using this method before however I had a problem with the on screen keyboard so I got a replacement. The replacement just came yesterday. Now I am rooting the replacement and the Unrevoked 3 program gets stuck at "Waiting for root... (Safe to restart if this doesn't work)"
I have the HBOOT drivers installed and my phone comes up in device manager as "Android Composite ADB Interface"
Did they apply a new update to the phone that prevents rooting? If so how long before I can get around it?

I'd probably prefer the manual method so let's troubleshoot that I get through most the steps found here (and I believe I've followed them exactly, to the letter): How-To Root a Sprint Hero But when I enter the code for #6: /data/local /asroot2 /system/bin/sh My system returns: [1] killed /data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh It simply won't continue past that point. May 21, 2010I was having trouble getting an album icon to show up when transferring from pc to phone. I ended up trying to sync the album from Windows Media Player but it started syncing EVERYTHING so I stopped it. Then when I plugged it into the pc again it said I'd only got 1gb of memory on the card when I started it was 3.6gb. I've officially only put 6 albums on about 400mb in total yet spent 2.6gb. I'm assuming the tracks I accidentally synced are the cause yet when I open up the drive there's no sign of them. Anyone any ideas how or where I can find them & remove them?

Oct 25, 2010I installed unrEVOked3. It says it was successful. I downloaded ROM manager,busybox, and Titanium Backup. Busybox says my phone is rooted. I have a USCC american HTC Desire. I tried to Install Defrost 5.7 when I try to install in it looks like all is well, then it goes to a white screen with green HTC logo. I then have to do a battery pull and restore to get back to my phone being usable. I am getting a list of saved backups because I have been trying repeatedly.

Aug 22, 2010I recently recieved a replacement desire following an claim. Once out of the box i realised that this was vodafone branded (my original showed no branding). I was a bit pi**ed off with this so decided to have a go at rooting the thing. I used unrevoked3 and clockwork mod but due to this being 2.1 firmware found that I was unable to change the rom. I would now like to unroot my desire as it has seemingly developed a fault and repeatedly reboots, so I may have to send back. This developed some 10 days after the root so don't think this is the cause. I also did a factory reset and the problem still occurs.
