I'm trying to root my HTC sprint hero 2.1 and I have gotten to step #9 .2 and when I copy and paste adb devices I get 'adb' is not a recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Can anyone help me with this problem so I and move forward and get out of 2.1 hell

Im trying to root my hero using pre kitchen but its not going threw i run the diagnostics text before you root everything checks out good. I have tried to root by having checked the box (with google) and tried it by not checking it. When my phone reboots i get the exclamation mark with a little phone on it. Everything seems to be running good except for this part# flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-heroc-v1.2.3.img flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-heroc-v1.2.3.img error opening /sdcard/recovery-RA-heroc-v1.2.3.img: No such file or directory can this be the problem? If so, how can i fix it?

I'd probably prefer the manual method so let's troubleshoot that I get through most the steps found here (and I believe I've followed them exactly, to the letter): How-To Root a Sprint Hero But when I enter the code for #6: /data/local /asroot2 /system/bin/sh My system returns: [1] killed /data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh It simply won't continue past that point. View 5 Replies View RelatedI have rooted my phone just to delete some of the sprint crap apps. Now my question is since I did not flash a custom ROM on to my device will I be able to update the phone when Sprint releases the OTA Update or will I have to use the RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.56.651.2_signed_release.exe to put my phone back to factory stock. (Also can I just do a hard reset to accomplish the same thing).

So I've tried and tried again using RA and other linux based programs (GParted) to get my 8GB card to partition for apps2sd. Everything always runs smoothly and shows that the card is partitioned correctly. But then upon reboot the SD card shows full fat32 memory (6.9 GB). No matter what I do, after reboot, the partitions never happen. When I used GParted, and then loaded the SD card on the phone it always says that the SD card is damaged and I need to reformat. I've done that and rerun everything to no avail. Someone please tell me this issue is that the SD card is corrupted and I should give up. Because I've followed everything to a T as far as partitioning. With that I'll say that I had no problems rooting my phone, flashing ROM's/RA's, etc, and have been able to do whatever I want as far as new things to load. I've finally decided after all this time to do apps2sd, and I literally screwed around for 5+ hrs today, trying to partition the SD card properly. Any thoughts?

I know some of those apps Sprint probably sold their soul to have on the phone but some of it is just trash. I'm not looking to clear up memory or any performance improvements. I just want to do some house cleaning of junk that I will NEVER use. I was hoping for maybe an unlock code or something simpler then the root/rom way to go. I'm very satisfied with the way things are working now but some of that garbage has got to go. I know junk is standard bill of fare on new computers but you can go through and systematically delete the garbage but I'm a little offended to have something that I bought and paid for and can't even clear out the junk and personalize it to my taste.
View 23 Replies View RelatedI'm rooting my cdma htc hero with google from sprint and one thing people say to do is nandroid. i read that you do this after rooting and before updating roms, but i have to ruu before i can root because my build number is 2.27.651.6 and has to be .5 so this will clear it off... anyway to backup device before i do this? anything other than nandroid? or a way to do it before rooting?

View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter a lot of thought, I finally decided I would root my Moment even the whole bricking issue had me really worried. I decided to try it anyway. I got it all done last night well, I think I did. I never actually went into anything that verified that I had rooted it just assumed it was rooted after the instructions I was reading said it was. Well within these instructions was a link to the SDX website where I could download a custom update zip, and had a link to create my own update zip, so I chose to create my own. I'm not sure if I made some wrong choices while creating the zip or what, but now I am having some major trouble.
After creating my zip, I placed it on my SD card. Then, I shut the phone down, and started it up in recovery mode (maybe that's what it's called.... volume down, talk, and end buttons). I went to apply from SD, or something like that, and then went to the custom zip I had just downloaded. The phone did it's thing, said it was installed and then said I need to reboot. I did.
I've not been able to get into my phone since. It gets to the Samsung splash screen, finishes it's animation, and then nothing. It's just black. It won't do anything at all until I take the battery out and put it back in. Then, I am able to get to any of the startup screens or whatever they're called, but no matter what, always goes black after Samsung Splash.It could be that the phone is actually starting, but just not showing me a screen....not sure about that.Well, I read a little bit, and decided I would try to fix it by installing a different update zip, so I put my sd card into my laptop and removed the custom zip. Then, I put the SD card back into my phone and ran the joeykrim zip again. It's still doing the same thing.Has anyone got any ideas for me here?? I am so sick that I decided to do this. I sure hope it's worth it in the end.
I've searched for hours for this, so I apologize if it's answered elsewhere, I simply can not find a solution that works.when I start up Unrevoked for the Incredible, it says to plug my phone in. I do that, making sure it says debug mode is enabled in the drop-down pane. But the unrevoked screen doesn't change I've tried:
- mounting as disk drive
- "charge only"
- one Windows XP PC and one Windows 7 PC
- removed PdaNet and tried those options again
Nothing gets me past that screen. I tried looking for an HTC Sync app to uninstall, or setting to disable (since it says "make sure it is NOT installed"), but I wasn't able to find anything.

I can download the software from my phone but can't install them. I also tried SE update service and PC companion. Update Service just says my phone is up to date and exits.PC companion says the same thing "your phone is up to date". Everything was going great the first couple of days, apps were running so much smoother the lag had completely stoped, but the last couple of days my phone stared lagging again much more then before rooting. I enjoy my Hero although yes it is slow at times. I love watching my SprintTV on my phone and listening to Pandora. I have read that if I but a custom ROM on and SetCPU and a few other goodies, I can speed the phone up a lot and have a better experience. I also hear that I can tether without having to use PDANet.
1. Can I still use Sprint TV?
2. Is the speed boost really worth installing a Custom ROM
3. What is the benefit of just Rooting the phone and keeping the Stock ROM?
4. I see this voids the warranty, but if you put the stock software back on the phone, does sprint ever know that you rooted if you take it in for service?
5. And can some of you that have done this process list out the top 5 favorite features you got out of this. Makes these actual results, not just what you heard about.
I just bought an EVO and like the features however its just to bulky of a phone for me . So I am going to go with the HERO.
I was told by sprint that if I upgrade to the 2.1 with the HERO I may have issues, that it was not designed for this upgrade in mind. Should I stick with the previous release?
Another option is, should I root the phone ( which I have no idea what that is) so I can get the 2.2 version when it comes out or maybe stick with the 2.1 version and with the rooted phone it will work properly.
I'm so confused, I consider myself pretty tech savvy but coming from a BB I'm new to all of this. Any help would be appreciated. I am also concerned about battery life. I understand how to turn off all the unneccessary crap like Wi-Fi, GPS, Messenger, etc when not in use, but will rooting the phone or upgrading to 2.1 or 2.2 help with that issue as well.

I have to admit, this most likely has been answered before, but I have been extremely busy lately due to school.
The question: I have refrained from rooting my Hero (I am a linux user in case any one wanted to know ) due to time constraints, I have yet to root it. I will probably attempt this weekend.
I bought the hero Oct. 11th, the day it came out iirc, and I have built up quite a hefty sum of applications.
After the rooting process, I plan use the gumbo kernel, and fresh1.1. One of the reasons that have held me from rooting is what happens to those apps? I will flash Fresh1.1, so they will be deleted. Is there a way to extract all the applications from the nandroid backup I will make before flashing Fresh 1.1, and put them on the SD card and install them? I would love very much not to have to go and individually download each application from the market again.
I am new to this and have just rooted my phone (Htc Hero). Is there a difference b/w rooting your phone and unlocking it? If so what and how do I do it? I am on sprint and am not even sure if unlocking it will do anything since it is CDMA.

It's the only problem I have with the phone. I'm wondering if anyone who had this issue has since rooted and had the problem be resolved from that. I'm on the fence about rooting.
