HTC Incredible :: Rooting My Incredible With Unrevoked 3 Stuck At Waiting For Root
Nov 30, 2010
I had a rooted Incredible using this method before however I had a problem with the on screen keyboard so I got a replacement. The replacement just came yesterday. Now I am rooting the replacement and the Unrevoked 3 program gets stuck at "Waiting for root... (Safe to restart if this doesn't work)"
I have the HBOOT drivers installed and my phone comes up in device manager as "Android Composite ADB Interface"
Did they apply a new update to the phone that prevents rooting? If so how long before I can get around it?

I have followed instructions on the following page on rooting my phone:
How To: Root the HTC Wildfire (Unrevoked Method) | TheUnlockr
At the bottom, There are some steps, Quoting these:
"7. Plug in your phone into your computer via usb cable. 8. It should automatically locate your phone that is plugged in and you can just follow the prompts to continue. 9. Done! You are rooted and have a custom recovery image!"
I have unrEVOked open, And followed all instructions, And it still says "waiting for device", Why?

I just unrooted and installed the leaked radio update so i would have less bugs with the froyo ROMS.
I installed the radio perfectly fine, but now unrevoked isn't working for me. I deleted all of the previous files and reinstalled them (sdk folder, usb drivers, reflash)
when i run the reflash tool, it gets stuck after rebooting, says "waiting for reboot..."
As the phone rebooted, it changed to "Flashing recovery image. Do not touch your phone!" but instead of into recovery, it just continued to restart the phone as usual

In the thread that has a guide to rooting with unrevoked 3 it states that you should have a 2gig available on the sd card, but also states if you have less than 4 gigs available you must format. Is it ok then to format the card if its only 2gigs to being with and root it that way? Sorry sounds confusing, I'm just wondering if 2gigs is enough.

I downloaded the driver at first I did it wrong so I had to start over. When I restarted the root it goes through the "pushing H-boot" etc and then restarts my phone. the icon for unrevoked (grey box) now says waiting for reboot... well ive been waiting for that reboot for about 10minutes now.

unrevoked from Twitter on Sunday morning:
First successful run of unrevoked 3.2 tonight: took a stock S-ON Froyo EVO to S-OFF in one pass, less than 1 minute. 3.2 is nearly complete.

If you've lost your root due to upgrading to 2.2, you're most likely in luck.
Check out this link, [ROOT] unrEVOked 3.2: one-click root for Froyo, no downgrading - xda-developers, then head over to ##unrevokedtest at freenode.net to get in on the testing.

I had stock froyo installed then installed Unrevoked 3.21 to root my dinc but when I ran it, it just got stuck at "Pushing Recovery..." So I soon realized that I didn't have it set to "Charge only" So I changed that then ran Unrevoked again and it proceeded very quickly. It restarted my phone once but "Charge only" WAS NOT set as the default option :/ so Unrevoked then got stuck at "Running root..." So I attempted to change it back to "Charge only" again but Unrevoked never proceeded so I exited out of Unrevoked and restarted Unrevoked after I changed the default on the dinc... However, now Unrevoked is stuck at "Pushing recovery..." again... It will not get passed that no matter what. What do I do?

So I am considering using unrevoked to flash/root my droid incredible and I just had a few questions. How safe is it? Is it easy to brick during the flash process or after when its already flashed? If my phone does somehow get bricked is there any way to save it? Is it reversible? If so is it easy? And lastly how does unrevoked run? I have stock 2.2 and its fast and smooth. Would using unrevoked slow it down?

I am new to root, and have been trying to root my Incredible. I have the OTA 2.2, and waited for Unrevoked to release the new program. I have downloaded the drivers and it says that has the most current drivers installed, but when I open the Unrevoked 3 re-flash program it does not recognize the phone...any ideas where to start?

Just wanted to drop and say thanks for all the great threads and guides here. The droid x was my first android phone and at the time "locked bootloader, efuse, etc" meant nothing to me so i got it. I do love my X and its been cool being in on the ground floor as stuff comes out, but now thats ive gotten into going beyond the standard user experience its kinda limiting.
I picked up a DINC off ebay kinda reasonably after selling my backup blackberry and a bunch of 360 games. Just came today and its been busy! thanks to the great info here, I rooted with unrevoked 3.21, s-off with unrevoked forever, and have been experimenting with different roms and kernels all day. Its been a blast.
Ive bootlooped a bunch of times but nothing a nandroid backup couldnt solve.
Until the X can offer what my new DINC does, I'm switching over to htc. Wish the screen was a tad bigger and had swype, but ill live!

Ok, I ran the new beta flash, it appeared to do what it was supposed to do, it got hung up on the clockwork recovery page, but rebooted. Now, how do I tell if I am rooted?

Back on 2.1 I broke down and rooted and used unrevoked 3 and unrevoked forever, then I went back to unrooted for the Froyo update. I left my S-OFF. I guess the question is can I just apply the new unrevoked for Froyo?
Its a stupid noob question, but its one that I'm not entirely clear on from reading the excellent posts and help guides.

So I'm trying to root my phone right now following Jonamerica's awesome write up. Only problem I'm having is that unrEVOked keeps saying "Waiting for device. Plug phone in now and enable USB debugging." But obviously my phone IS plugged in and I have USB debugging on. Anyone know what my problem is?

Does using unrevoked 3.1 to root a DInc wipe the phone? I know that with old root methods on other droids (e.g., Droid Eris), that rooting required installing a custom ROM at the same time.So does unrevoked wipe the phone and install a custom rooted rom? Or if you run revoked 3.1, are you simply left with a rooted phone, that's still running the stock Android Sense 2.1?

I have rooted my DI using Unrevoked 3 (love it) and have been using Wireless tether and Titanium. Two Noob questions,
1 From what I have read, I will have to unroot phone back to stock to get VZW 2.2 OTA. What will happen if I don't?
2 If I do the leaked OTA 2.2 with radio update and the radio file is different with VZW2.2 will phone brick??
Just curious, should I unroot?? any thought son VZW OTA?My DI rocks, I dropped the iphone and feel I have stepped up to a whole new world.

I wasn't even planning on doing it last night; just wanted to get the drivers/programs/etc all in line and wait for the official release. But once I actually sat down at the computer to get everything together I realized there wasn't much of anything needed for this other than the unrEVOked program (beta from the IRC channel) and the appropriate drivers.Any suggestions on "must have" apps to use on my rooted, otherwise stock, Incredible?I'm currently playing with WiFi Tethering and LEDs Hack. Other than that, I'd love to hear what you'd recommend!

Looks like Unrevoked is at it again, this time with a new S-On tool. It will probably be released within 24 hours, they are updating the website right now public:forever.

I downloaded the unrevoked package, moved the drivers onto the sd card, activated the reflash_package and my phone went about halfway through the process before stopping. It went through the white screen with the little green droids at the bottom and then the phone rebooted, but it never went through the last boot screen where it installs s-off. I disconnected my phone and everything works perfectly, but I have no superpermissions. Now when I hook my phone to the computer and run the reflash_package it hangs on "pushing hboot". I've tried it 5 times now and still nothing...

i have just gotten my HTC EVO 4G 5 gays ago and I AM LOVING IT !! But, as i was searching all over the internet, the word "Rooting" came up a lot. So i figured , "hey ! why not try it?!" I wanna try and use UnrEVOked but I know nothing about Rooting and such.
1) What will rooting do to my phone?
2) Will it void my warranty?
3) Is it only temporary?
4) Will it help me save battery life?
5) What are other features of rooting?

I'm rooted the 2GB pny way and have the unrevoked recovery system on my phone. When verizon decides to let the ota/froyo/maintrelease (or whatever it's being called) as reported on bgr and here, what exactly do I need to do to get this as I should over the OTA?I am assuming I need to unroot (but why?) and restore the Recovery System, as well as remove any root programs from the phone.

I installed the unrevoked forever tool and it went great, got the s-off.
I try to "adb remount" when the phone is on, and I get an error saying it can't be permitted. it also says "$" when I do adb shell
but I can still do it fine from clockwork recovery.

I just rooted my phone. First, what is the Unrevoked reflash for? I though it was a custom ROM, but it seems to be something to back up your phone?
Is the wifi-tethering that installed with the root free, or does it still add that extra $30/month Verizon has on their stock-tether?
Is it possible to underclock the Incredible? My phone never has speed problems, but the battery never lasts the day. It'd be nice to have some trade-off.
Lastly, how do I get a custom ROM onto my phone? Are there any stable ones available yet?
