i have just gotten my HTC EVO 4G 5 gays ago and I AM LOVING IT !! But, as i was searching all over the internet, the word "Rooting" came up a lot. So i figured , "hey ! why not try it?!" I wanna try and use UnrEVOked but I know nothing about Rooting and such.
1) What will rooting do to my phone?
2) Will it void my warranty?
3) Is it only temporary?
4) Will it help me save battery life?
5) What are other features of rooting?
I am trying to root my EVO and getting stuck at a certain point.I am following the instructions/videos found here:[GUIDE] How to root Android 2.2 on the EVO 4G - xda-developers.I have followed the directions successfully up until I am instructed to me to boot with HBOOT USB and then remove the battery to restart, and run reflash.exe.I am stuck running unrevoked (reflash); the phone does not display the console but rather boots normally. The first time running reflash seems to be working normally until it reboots and searches for the phone, at which point hangs. Any attempt to restart the process will hang at Pushing Recovery Image. I have waited patiently over 10 minutes for each. After the phone fully boots it my computer lists in Device Manager now lists my phone under ADB Interface.I am using windows 7. I have USB debugging I have removed HTC sync (still have HTC drivers installed) and installed the Android Bootloader Drivers. I also am running reflash.exe as Admin.
View 12 Replies View Relatedso just rooted using unrevoked3, i did so without a memory card in the phone (forgot i had earlier taken it out) and had a message on the phone about couldnt find sd storage. well anyway unrevoked3 said that rooting was done and i do have the user permissions app in my app drawer. just wondering could there be anything that is not on my phone now because i didnt have sd storage in?
View 23 Replies View RelatedI have a desire I wish to root. I have version 2.1 stock and understand that unrevoked 3.14 might be the best option. Thing is I cannot find this version, it always brings up 3.21 which I don't think will work. Is there a better way to go about this? I use a mac.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have followed instructions on the following page on rooting my phone:
How To: Root the HTC Wildfire (Unrevoked Method) | TheUnlockr
At the bottom, There are some steps, Quoting these:
"7. Plug in your phone into your computer via usb cable. 8. It should automatically locate your phone that is plugged in and you can just follow the prompts to continue. 9. Done! You are rooted and have a custom recovery image!"
I have unrEVOked open, And followed all instructions, And it still says "waiting for device", Why?
So I tried the rooting method using unrevoked3 but it came up with
View 12 Replies View RelatedIn the thread that has a guide to rooting with unrevoked 3 it states that you should have a 2gig available on the sd card, but also states if you have less than 4 gigs available you must format. Is it ok then to format the card if its only 2gigs to being with and root it that way? Sorry sounds confusing, I'm just wondering if 2gigs is enough.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm rooting my cdma htc hero with google from sprint and one thing people say to do is nandroid. i read that you do this after rooting and before updating roms, but i have to ruu before i can root because my build number is 2.27.651.6 and has to be .5 so this will clear it off... anyway to backup device before i do this? anything other than nandroid? or a way to do it before rooting?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI flashed + rooted (strangely in that order, which means I must have rooted my phone ages ago.. and then locked my bootloader after flashing..?)...
I do have Rom manager installed... but I don't quite recall how I ended up flashing the stock rom onto the phone..
Anyways, as I did seem to reset my phone, I upgraded all the apk packs and I'm pretty happy with the speed upgrade + ext2 internal space expansion.
As I now want to create a nandroid backup, so I can always come back to my current status, when I want a clean reinstall..!
My main question is that as I seem to have skipped creating a CWM recovery... if I do so now, will I loose all my data and go back to the basic stock rom?
The problem I'm facing right now is that I'm unable to boot into the recovery mode using either "adb reboot recovery" or the power on + vol buttons / menu button. (which means that I don't have the recovery mode installed.....)
So.... will I loose my current upgrades + phone settings (reset into factory mode), if I flash the recovery mode?
Ok, I just can't figure this out. How do you get Nandroid installed so you can create backups? I am looking all over and just can't figure it out.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had a rooted Incredible using this method before however I had a problem with the on screen keyboard so I got a replacement. The replacement just came yesterday. Now I am rooting the replacement and the Unrevoked 3 program gets stuck at "Waiting for root... (Safe to restart if this doesn't work)"
I have the HBOOT drivers installed and my phone comes up in device manager as "Android Composite ADB Interface"
Did they apply a new update to the phone that prevents rooting? If so how long before I can get around it?
For some reason, and I never had this problem before, but I just tried to do a new nandroid backup and it says this: Error : Run 'nandroid-mobile.sh' via adb! What is this!
View 2 Replies View RelatedForgive me if this has been answered already, I didn't really know how to search for this... But today I tried to do a Nandroid Backup and when I did it said "error: Run 'nandroid-mobile.sh' via adb!" But I've previously been able to just click Nandroid Backup and it will backup my phone..

View 29 Replies View RelatedI've looked around and it seems that everything is about the current OTA. I have a friend whose running OTA version 3.26.651.6 will Unrevoked 3.21 still work for rooting it? When I rooted (a while ago now) I ran Unrevoked and then Unrevoked Forever, if I want to root his phone + nand unlock, do we still have to run Unrevoked Forever? I read in several threads that you don't need to run it anymore with the update of 3.21, but I'd just like to make sure!

View 1 Replies View RelatedLast night I rooted my phone using the unrevoked method and I installed fresh 0.1. I had an issue last night where my phone wouldn't see the SD card Has this issue been resolved with the newer versions of the fresh rom? How do I get this update applied so that I don't have any issues with my phone seeing my sd card? I've only had enough time to get 0.1 installed and I would like to have 0.3 up and running by tonight.
