I'm on Froyo 2.2 (stock ROM) and i have some .apk files on my computer that I want to install, how should I do this since I cant seem to get HTC Sync to work?

Saw some discussion on this on the Hero forum here, and one mention on the HTC forum, but no conclusive answers. I cannot get HTC Sync to work on my computer. I am running XP SP3. I have downloaded the latest version of HTC Sync. I disable my anti-virus and firewall and install, and it reports it installs correctly, but that it will not run and it will not recognize the phone.
I read that it's a "known issue" with McAfee, but don't see a workaround or any detailed threads.Anyone running McAfee and get it to work?
I no longer have the original sd card with the hot sync software. I had to reset my phone and the sync wouldn't work. I uninstalled the hot sync from my computer not realizing the software was on the sd card. Is there another way to get the software downloaded to my computer.

My desire is not detecting my computer when I connect the USB, I connect it and it begins charging instead of asking me about the connection type. As I was puzzled and thought this was very strange, I checked the "connect to PC" settings only to find out the "ask me" option was indeed enabled . When I connect the USB to the computer it begins charging and displays "USB" on battery status, but it does not actually detect the computer, nor does the computer detect the phone (even when I change the default connection type to "disk drive" it continues on charge mode). Has anyone any clue as to what is wrong with my desire? I am very confused because as I said, I select the "ask me" option but it does not "ask me", I really want to fix this as it means I cannot sync music onto it, any ideas?

View 1 Replies View RelatedUp until today i have had no problems with my Desire, then i tried to sync my phone with HTC Sync and the phone couldn't see the software. done the usual and checked and double checked i had the right settings, also un installed it and re installed from the SD card and it see's it but won't allow apps to be installed from my pc 80004005 is the error i get when clicking on the application installer in HTC Sync. I have tried the updated HTC sync from HTC website and that won't even install to my PC, i get an error when clicking the .exe All this was working fine yesterday and now somethings wrong Any ideas guys?

View 2 Replies View Relatedgot a Samsung Galaxy S4 (for several years I had iPhones) and I am enjoying it. Now that I have gotten all my music files away from iTunes' clunky clutches I have reorganized them and they are on my S4's sim card and it works great.
The issue is that I have updated a few of the files and moved a couple more around. I want to update those music files on my S4 from my PC. I could just delete the Music folder on the S4 and recopy everything over, but that seems to be a huge overkill.
What is a good way to compare files between my S4 and folders on the PC and match/update between the two? I am using Windows 7. I have tried to map the Sim Card as a drive but couldn't get that to work. I have Kies from Samsung but that is kinda clunky. I have also tried AirDroid (which I think is great) but I can't really sync files with that. Normally I would use a Windows application like Beyond Compare or WinMerge to do something like this.
I'm in the processing of rooting my evo n i have to update the software but my computer (im using windows xp) says i have to install the drive.

I have plugged both phones into my computer and tried that with just one picture to see if it would work and I could not find the picture that I moved. Can someone please give me some step by step instructions on this? Also while I have you guys attention for a moment I am also having problems hooking up the hot spot. My computer is saying that it is reading it and says it is connected but when I pull up the web it says that it can not be connected.

I opened it up, and added a folder, and placed some videos on it from my old phone I had backed up on my comp. I put the sim in the phone, and I cant find the damn folder anywhere. Is there a certain place to put this folder? Im confused. I put another folder on it with pics, and that one shows up.

My evo wont do anything once paired to my computer via bluetooth. i paired it successfully, then later i wanted to send a file from my phone to my computer via bluetooth, (i have ftp enabled) and told my computer to expect a file and nothing. it doesn't work. also when i check the pairing profile on my computer, under services it is COMPLETELY blank, there should be some services like dial-up modem and bluetooth speakers and stuff shouldn't there be?
here is what i want to be able to do.
1. i want to send files from my EVO to my computer via Astro Bluetooth.
2. i would also like to use my laptop speakers via bluetooth, example, play Pandora on my phone using my laptop speakers via bluetooth connection
that is really all i want to do but i cant get ANYTHING working. could this be solved by rooting my evo? i really just wanna be able to do basic bluetooth functions with my phone.

I didn't get any CD with it. I am also wondering if I hard reset my phone back to factory default, will all the apps, etc that were there out of the box, still be there? If I can sync with my computer, can I put my contacts back on from my computer? And, finally, there is a "notice" type "bell" sound every so often on my phone, but I have checked messages and phone calls as well as email, plus there are no notifications at top...what might it be?
