I wanted to know if there is any way to turn off the screen without the phone being locked or put to sleep.
This would be useful when controlling my phone from my PC via Teamviewer (I already see the phone screen in my PC, so having the other one ON is pointless) or when wanting to listen to some music coming from a video.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI had it first on the Galaxy S3 with 4.2.1 stock rom, I don't know if it might be an app that might be causing this, basically when i lock the phone the screen turns off but then when i press the power button or the home button to turn on the screen it does not do anything, I know the phone is still on because sometimes if i get a text message i can see the blue led blinking and it will continue to blink even when it's frozen.
The only way to bring it back is by holding the power and home button together in order to reset it.I tried factory reset and it would not work, I flashed the phone with a custom rom for Paranoid Android 4.3 and it worked great for about a week, no issues at all, but then it started freezing when locked again.
I don't know if it might be an app that might be causing this, basically when i lock the phone the screen turns of but then when i press the power button or the home button to turn on the screen it does not do anything, I know the phone is still on because sometimes if i get a text message i can see the blue led blinking and it will continue to blink even when it's frozen.
Even worst, if i'm listening to music and i lock the phone or if the screen times out and locks when i try to unlock it i can see it's stuck but the music is still playing....
Also, if the phone is stuck and i try to call it, it will not ring not turn the screen on, it's not like the problem is just the physical buttons, i don't know what to do since the phone is out of warranty, I have never dropped the phone and there is no damage on it, it have never over heat either so i don't know what can i do...
I am always changing the volume accidentaly, especially while I am streaming Pandora or slacker when my screen is locked. Also I keep accidentaly turning my ringer down. Is there a way to totally disable the volume buttons or at least make them less annoying?

I could have sworn there was option either associated with that or somewhere in the settings where it asked you how long it would take for the phone to lock the screen after it went to sleep.

Well after long waiting I got the moment! So far so good and really enjoying my first smartphone. Now How do i get the phone screen to go to sleep when charging? Can't find anywhere how to do this? Got the animated circle working with a switch for ripple on/off,weather and live wallpaper lockscreen support.
I just cannot get the ripple interaction when screen locked. When the movement to unlock is made the ripple appears.
Logcat shows the ripple renderer runs when screen is locked and touched but whilst locked the screen does not display the interaction.....

I think its possibly phonewindowmanager or keyguardmediator which is stopping the screen displaying interaction until the movement to unlock is made. Any process that links what is shown on screen and interaction when locked (for lockscreen music widgets for example which allow interaction when locked)
I've noticed when the phone goes into standby mode (press the right power button), the 3G eventually turns off. Is there a way to prevent that from happening? I'm assuming I can't get any notifications (i.e. Instant Messenger clients, Google Voice, etc.) while the 3G is off, but not sure. I'm also assuming 3G goes into sleep mode, as when I power the phone up I don't see the 3G icon (is that assumption correct?).

Then I decided to use Clockwork to install a mod (cyanogen) and cleared everything i needed to, but after it reset it locked on the logo, the LG with a blue swipe behind it, and thats all i get. I did some Googling and there seems to be a setting that can change how much the screen lock blocks. I think I checked everywhere in the phone but don't see this option. It's a ZTE AWE phone with jelly bean.
There's aparently simple ways to bypass screen lock if a phone's lost, but I still want it fully locked.
I am trying to create a broadcast receiver to detect when the screen was locked. I have it already working to detect when the the tablet was booted, but it won't work for the SCREEN_OFF action. Right now I just have it log any intents that where triggered and so far its only working for when the boot was completed.

I'm trying to access my tablet Odys Xpress to change the ROM. The problem, after reading several posts on how to do, is that windows 7 does not recognize the driver. Surely it's because I have not activated the tablet's USB debuggin. But change can not access because it has a screen lock pattern type I do not know.how I can remove the pattern lock screen?

Steps to reproduce the problem:
- plug in headset
- lock screen
- press headset button for several seconds
What happened:
- No reaction, Google Now / Voice Actions not launched
- Manually unlock screen
- Long press with unlocked screen correctly launches Voice Search
What you think the correct behaviour should be:
Long press of headset button should launch Google Now / Voice Actions even with locked screen. Having to dig the phone out of your pocket in order to launch Voice Actions with a headset e.g. to place a call kinda defeats the purpose of using Voice Actions in the first place.
Adding insult to injury: long press is not broadcast to other applications because of Google Now, so it can't even be put to good use e.g. as volume control.

I was trying out the Pattern Lock feature on my HTC Incredible S and got locked out after too many incorrect attempts. I can't use my email address and password to verify my account as my data and wifi are switched off.
To get around this problem, I've transferred to my microSD card the XtraSec apk that will allow me to remotely switch on wifi and data. However, I'm not sure how to trigger the installation of the apk when I can't get past the lock screen .Can I use fastboot to access the file explorer app (ES file explorer) or apk installer app to get the apk to install?
I haven't rooted the phone and it's running the latest version of Android. I'm not sure if I have USB debugging enabled. I'd like to avoid doing a reset if possible coz I haven't backed up the things that aren't on the sd card.
Any way to keep GPS running when the phone goes to sleep? There are times when I want to have my location continuously reported to Google Latitude, and it's a terrible waste of battery to keep the screen running just to do that.
