My contacts weren't backed up to google+. I really need to access my phone through my laptop to copy my contacts atleast? In can access recovery mode and wipe it but I really want my contacts off of it and some text messages. How I can do this? My replacement nexus 4 through device protection plan just arrived and I need to send the broken one back.

I managed to backup the files that I can see as "mass media storage" from the phone, the contacts are synced with Google account, but couldn't back up the SMS. Is there a way to access the android phone with PC? I'm trying screencast 0.4 but it looks like it requires "rooted" phone, which my phone is not.

My galaxy s2's screen has occasionally stopped responding, the os was still running and everything so it wasnt frozen, my touch screen just simply stopped working. Only way to fix it was to hit the back of the phone and do a battery reset. This issue started poping up more and more, and now it won't respond.

No custom roms/kernels have ever been installed, has always run off the stock. Never been dropped or had water on it (I took very good care of it).
The nav bar at the bottom (back/search/options/menue) and hardware buttons all work. Everything above the screen no longer works.
What iv done: I've reset the phone, did a bettery pull for the night, fully charged it, looked at the board and checked all the connections (all good). Would flashing a custom rom/kernel be something to try next? Why would the bottom nav bar work but no the rest of the screen? Could it be locked somehow? If it is.. how would I unlock it?
I purchased a replacement digitizer for my broken Nexus 7 (first generation). Now, the *first* step of the repair process is to power-off the Nexus 7...
BUT It's BROKEN! I cannot press on 'power off' option when holding the power button for 10 seconds - that resets the unit.
How am I supposed to power it down?
I have a Nexus S running 4.0.4. I did the update manually when it was released.
The bootloader is unlocked from previous ROM experiments but this ICS is stock/unrooted.
A few weeks later, the power button now doesn't work. This is a VERY common issue, but no one knows for sure if it is Hardware or Software. I was going to lock my bootloader and send it in to get a fix or replacement device from my carrier. Alternatively, I was going to attempt to flash a ROM onto it and see if the button comes back.
The bizarre thing is that when I go into fastboot, the device freezes and I cannot use any of the buttons. Furthermore, below the device information, nothing else shows up. The device shows up to ADB when booted, but Device Manager doesn't even find an unknown device when in Fastboot.

I need to load Contacts.Phones.CONTENT_URI and Contacts.ContactMethods.CONTENT_EMAIL_URI into a ListActivity.
Since these are separate Content URIs, I have two separate cursors and can't construct a SimpleCursorAdapter for use in the ListActivity.
The problem is that I have more than a thousand records for CONTENT_EMAIL_URI, which were automatically loaded by GMail. The app becomes unresponsive and Android prompts to kill the app or wait.
Is there a way to make the ListActivity content load in the background, like, by writing a custom implementation of android.widget.Adapter?
Or is it more feasible to use a single cursor, by manually running the SQL query on the contacts tables?
So my EVO screen is unresponsive only when I use the dialer (keys 7, 8, 9 in stock dialer and 4, 5, 6 when I tried dialer one). Last I recall this was not an issue when using Fresh 0.5.3 but first emerged when i switched to Fresh 1.01. I promptly returned to Fresh 0.5.3 and the problem was gone. Within the last several weeks, I switched to a 2.2 ROM (Fresh 3.2) and the problem wasn't there until recently when I began flashing different ROMs to try. Anyone run into this a similar non-responsive touch screen only in certain apps and areas? The area of the screen is fine in other apps, it seems to be limited to the dialer.

Its not rooted. The screen is completely shattered off and I cant use the touchscreen or buttons so I cant get passed the lock screen.
I was able to get about half my contacts from my back up in April on the wireless server from Cricket, and I dont use the Gmail back up and purposely did it that way. I plugged my phone into the computer but I cant access the phone at all since I have to choose the USB/Computer option from the phone itself.
How I can get to them? They are not on the SD card either. I need a way to access the phone without using the touchscreen. Is there a way to sync the Android phone to PC without using the touchscreen?
I dont have my phone password protected. It seems as though that the Android can do everything except retrieve information without using the touch screen...
I've had this phone for a week now and today it developed something new. When I plug in the battery charger, the touch screen becomes almost entirely non-responsive. When I attempt to slide the Lock Screen away it either won't move or I can get it to slightly move but it bounces right back or even sticks halfway. If I unplug the charger and wait about a minute it's back to working fine again. I've removed the battery a few times now to see if this helped but nothing seems to help. It didn't do this till today. Anyone else run into this problem and if so how did you remedy it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedHey Androidforums mates, When I use my fingertips (index finger) on the touch screen (not my fingernail but just below it), it's not as responsive as using the flat part of your finger. Does this happen to you? Every time I use my fingertip to scroll around, it would always accidental open an app or accidental open up a link. If i use my thumb by the flat surface, it's fine as well.
Example:
The fingertip I was talking about is labeled "A" which I am having problems scrolling around with (seems like not sensing that part of the finger sometimes). If i use the part labeled "B", it's fine and 'connects' with my finger. It's fine when I press harder using "A" but that's CZ it is sensing more of my finger.
I broke the screen on my droid mini. I bought a replacement digitizer/screen combo off ebay that doesn't seem to be working even though installation is correct. I can power on the phone, but it's really weird. There's no display and it just vibrates once. About every minute it vibrates 1 time again.
Secondly, my PC won't recognize the phone now. I was going to try to transfer my photos to the PC so I could call insurance as a last resort. I have around 800 photos on there that I want to get off. NOTE, MY SCREEN DOESN'T WORK so I can't change modes on the phone.
I'm temporarily using an old phone, at least need getting the photos off the phone.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI broke the screen/digitizer on my phone the other night. I got a new replacement phone through my mobile insurance. I was able to create a backup of my old phone through Kies since it's only the screen that won't work. However, upon further research, I'm seeing that Kies does not back up apps or app data. It says it does, when I selected everything while I was backing up but it won't let me when I try to restore it to the new device. It will only let me restore the contacts, pics, music etc.. which I already have on my micro SD card.
I've seen that people use helium backup but I am unable to do anything on my old device other than plugging it into a computer. I can't install helium on the old phone. Will I be able to backup the broken phone just with Helium Desktop?

By default, USB Charging mode is on ... so no use connecting it to my pc. I also tried rebooting but the USB charge stays default.

I have a completely broken screen/lcd/digitizer on my Samsung Galaxy S3, debug mode was not on. The phone works as it will still vibrate when turned on and the LED / Menu / Back buttons light up during a boot. USB connector works as well. The phone was not previously rooted.
I had most important data on the sd card and I've already wrote off any other data on the phone as I've since moved on to a GN2. I would like to make use of the S3 (not necessarily as a phone but a server, security camera, etc.). I've read several posts here about my options and looked at numerous google articles, all seem to require debug mode being on or assume/require the data/OS must remain as this is what the user is trying to recover. I do not care if all data is lost on the phone, I just want to make the device useful again.
Am I out of luck if debug mode was not enabled or can I flash through adb via some obscure mechanism? Also note that fastboot is not an option here as the S3 (samsung) does not have it enabled. I am unable to get into "Download Mode" as I cannot see info on the screen.
My Motorola maxx has a broken screen, there is no image at all. The device appears to power cycle, and when connected to win 7 there are 2 drives to explore, both appear as unformatted.
How to recover my files ? When I connect my new maxx the folders are also unreadable.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI tried to root my Nexus 4, and well I'm not too sure if it is rooted but after unlocking the bootloader and wiping the data, I got it to boot back up and then since then when I turn it off and try and go into recovery mode it has a dead android with a red triangle and says "No command." I can use the phone normally but it just wont let me get into recovery mode.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAm new to my Nexus 4. After seeing many Nexus with custom roms, i thought to have one as well. I rooted my nexus using Nexus root toolkit and installed TWRP. Today i tried to install Beanstalk Rom in my phone. I installed the Gapps as well. I dint format the phone before flashing custom rom. When the phone started with the custom rom,i was getting a message like the rom is not stable and u need to clear the partitions. So i tried going back to the recovery mode and wiped everything except USB OTG. Now am stuck at google screen at startup. I cant access the phones memory to put the Rom and flash the same again.

Via the reading history of my pdf reader (Moon+ reader) I can see that at least one file is still present in the cache under the following folder address: /data/data/com.google.android.apps.docs/cache/filecache2/c042587322c4a438463efbd2cc533cbf/mypdf1.pdf
How can I access this folder? When accessing the device via the Android File Transfer sofware for Mac, I don't see this folder. I have access to Android/data/com.google.android.apps.docs/files, but this folder contains no files but only another folder (called "pinned_doc_files_not_for_edit") which is also empty.
The lost pdf is still there, I can open it in the reader via the reading history, but I would like to access the folder to see whether other lost files (which are not in the reading history) are also still present. To be clear, the file which I can open is also not detected when searching the device for pdfs.
Before 2.2 upgrade, under contacts/menu "display groups" would present me with a list of contact groups (all, phone, google) with a header of "show".Now I just get the "show" header and no list of groups.

Today I went to add my phone numbers into my new N4 and it keeps asking me to add them to either my Google or Hotmail (I setup e-mail already) account. Why? I don't want to sync them, I just want to have them there on my phone. I've exported my entire phonebook as a CSV and VCF file on my PC, I but I really cannot find how to import without it also syncing with Google or Hotmail.
In the past couple weeks my nexus has stopped saving contacts that I add. This is regardless of how I add the contact, and I am sure that I have my Google account selected as the one to save to.
what the impact of 'resetting' the phone is. Will I need to reinstall all my apps and widgets?
