Android :: LG Ally From Verizon 2.1-update1 Has Broken Apps
Sep 26, 2010I have been told by one of my customers that my app (and some others) no longer works on his phone since he got an OTA for2.1-update. a bit of a Google about and it sounds like yes - my customer and my app are not alone. Has any-one else encountered this - is it Verizon's fault or has my app got some obscure bug? The icon has changed from the normal group text icon to a generic android icon, and instead of being called group text, the name that shows up in my app menu is "com.smallbould". When I click on the icon, every time I get an immediate message saying that Andriod Home has to be force closed. I never even make it to the group text main screen... nothing from group text loads, period. I can uninstall the app and then reinstall it from Android market and everything goes back to normal... the icon and the app name go back to normal and the app loads and works without a problem. But as soon as I power down the phone, the app reverts to the generic icon and becomes totally non functional again. For what its worth, Fandango and History Eraser also have this problem after 2.1-update1. All of these apps worked flawlessly before the update. My phone is an LG Ally from Verizon.

May 7, 2010I mentioned this earlier but no one seemed to know anything about this. It just happened again to me in the middle of testing a new game, which is the first time I've seen it happen during one of my games. The game had been loaded for about a minute and I was playing and everything was fine and then the phone locked up and this was in the log:

The waitForCondition messages kept logging every second until the phone (Nexus One) rebooted itself.
This continued until the device rebooted. As you can imagine, process 29487 is my game. 74 is (I think) system service. Both got hung up and my game certainly didn't do anything to cause this. I just use a GLSurfaceView and a normal logic thread. Nothing special, no hacks.
This is not the first time I've seen it - it can be reliably reproduced when flipping orientations on a live wallpaper service and doing the proper context/display destroy and new EGL init on orientation change. It happens almost instantly there. It's actually plaguing my live wallpaper because I haven't found a workaround for it yet.
I've also seen this happen once before to RenderScript, so perhaps it is OpenGL-related?
I feel like there is a bug down there in the depths of Android....
Games :: Multitouch Mod Yet For NESoid On Nexus One?
Jan 23, 2010Does anyone know if there has been a multitouch mod yet for NESoid on the Nexus One? Its so tough to use when you have to continually take your fingers off of the screen. Also, is there a way to change the button layout? right now the A and B buttons are on the left and right side of the phone, making it really difficult to use both at the same time. Also, please dont post anything on here about games because i dont want them to close the thread on me. Just answer the technical questions or voice concerns or whatever, dont mention any games or roms or anything of that nature.

After all the initial setup I didnt get a notification for the OTA multitouch update. Is it dependent on the carrier to give us the update or something?

Feb 3, 2010I had dolphin installed to check out MT, but really never liked it. As soon as the MT update was installed on my phone, I removed dolphin. Then I noticed that my regular browser was no longer multitouch. As soon as I installed dolphin again, multitouch returned to the stock browser. So to me it looks like dolphin was installing the same MT files that the stock browser now uses, and when it uninstalls, it removes those files. Looks like this may be something dolphin needs to update for. Can anyone else try this out and confirm it for me?
I am thinking maybe I can uninstall dolphin, then reflash the update, but I am not sure if this will cause a problem, can I just reinstall and update on top of an update?

General :: Nexus S Broken Power Button And Fastboot
May 9, 2012I have a Nexus S running 4.0.4. I did the update manually when it was released.
The bootloader is unlocked from previous ROM experiments but this ICS is stock/unrooted.
A few weeks later, the power button now doesn't work. This is a VERY common issue, but no one knows for sure if it is Hardware or Software. I was going to lock my bootloader and send it in to get a fix or replacement device from my carrier. Alternatively, I was going to attempt to flash a ROM onto it and see if the button comes back.
The bizarre thing is that when I go into fastboot, the device freezes and I cannot use any of the buttons. Furthermore, below the device information, nothing else shows up. The device shows up to ADB when booted, but Device Manager doesn't even find an unknown device when in Fastboot.
Android :: Pandora App Crackles Badly In Car
Nov 30, 2009I can't figure it out. At first I thought I had a blown speaker (specifically the front left speaker) because it makes popping/cracking noises VERY bad when playing music. After some experimentation, however, I found that it's only when using Pandora. If I play music from my phone off last.fm or internal memory, or non-phone sources like my other MP3 player or FM radio, there is no crackling no matter how loud I go (and for reference it happens more noticeably at low volumes, I can crank it up and drown out the popping mostly).
What gives? If I listen to pandora with headphones there is almost no problem, although on some songs I can kinda-sorta hear the popping.
I'm using the motorola droid if it's relevant (although I don't think that has anything to do with the problem).

But when looking at the about phone UI, it shows that the version is "2.2-update1". Is this real? Or is it 2.1 with some 2.2 features? Jul 19, 2010I was going through my Uninstaller App today to see what apps I really haven't been using much lately, because even though I have apps2sd, my internal memory is down to 23mb. Despite clearing the cache with cachmate. I have a bunch of apps, and know that they are all taking up cache, but daaaaamn, they take up a lot, lol. I have a 16gb, i think "kingston" sd card, and doubt it's a class 6 (because my wife got it at the sprint store), so I'm not comfortable moving all my dalvik cache onto it in case it screws something up, or makes it super slow. Sorry, got a little off topic. So I came across "com.htc 2.1-update1 10998kb", and wasn't sure if I would brick my phone by deleting it. It's obviously taking up some of my internal memory, and I'd like to have that room back lol. Does anyone know if I'll brick my phone if I delete it, or if it will be just fine if I delete it? I'm running 1.5, with Aloysius 2.1 LWP w/ OC. I refuse to upgrade to 2.1 and lose root. Unless someone has finally found a way to get root again after updating to 2.1?

Sep 21, 2010Just came from an rooted droid eris. That was a HTC phone and while just getting familiar with the X it seems the process and procedures are a little different/more confusing. My brand new X came with 2.1 update1. Now my only reason/purpose for rooting is really only for custom roms(if even available or stable for the X yet, but not that important atm)/apps requiring SU permissions like wireless tether and setcpu.
Although I doubt I'll need to oc this beast. And tweaking the os to be better/faster/how I want it like removing bloatware. With that being said, like I said I am running 2.1 update1. And I am hearing something about the X getting Froyo 2.2 anyday now? Should I wait for that to hit my phone before I do anything?
Android :: Code For Multitouch
Nov 19, 2010I'm developing an application that must handle multitouch. Basically I want single touch for rotating ( this is no problem ). And multitouch for scrolling.
I have the basic code in, but I'm having problems when the shift from single to multitouch, and vice verca, occur. Basically the movement will jolt because the median position of the multitouch ( two fingers ) and the absolute position of the single finger are at a distance. So if I have two fingers on the screen, they make up a median position, and then lift one finger, it would be like a quick movement from that median position to the absolute single finger position. This will be the movement that I don't want.

The onTouchDown function of the camera just sets the first value of the touch move. That's why I also use it in the up movement to set a new begin value for the single touch movement when coming from a multitouch.

Sep 22, 2010I'm trying to do is draw circles around two points that are being touched, and as the fingers drag along on the screen, have these circles follow each finger.
However, I'm getting some weird behavior that I can't figure out. So when I place two fingers on the screen I get my circles no problem. When I drag around with the two fingers everything works like I want it. However, if I lift the first finger, everything stops redrawing, and the second finger that is still on the screen stops being tracked. If I place the first finger back on, everything behaves good again. I figure I must be handling the two fingers poorly.
Also, if I have two fingers on the screen, and I lift and touch the second finger, everything behaves well. It's only in the case where I have two fingers and I lift the first one do I see a problem.
