Its not rooted. The screen is completely shattered off and I cant use the touchscreen or buttons so I cant get passed the lock screen.
I was able to get about half my contacts from my back up in April on the wireless server from Cricket, and I dont use the Gmail back up and purposely did it that way. I plugged my phone into the computer but I cant access the phone at all since I have to choose the USB/Computer option from the phone itself.
How I can get to them? They are not on the SD card either. I need a way to access the phone without using the touchscreen. Is there a way to sync the Android phone to PC without using the touchscreen?
I dont have my phone password protected. It seems as though that the Android can do everything except retrieve information without using the touch screen...
My contacts weren't backed up to google+. I really need to access my phone through my laptop to copy my contacts atleast? In can access recovery mode and wipe it but I really want my contacts off of it and some text messages. How I can do this? My replacement nexus 4 through device protection plan just arrived and I need to send the broken one back.

I've tried the trick where you let it sit in rice for a few days to soak up the moisture, but the touchscreen is shot. The phone works fine except that I can't unlock the screen since the touch functionality just isn't working, which means I can't do anything with the phone...
Is there a way to recover my text messages by connecting to a computer? I'm not sure if I can even activate the USB functionality without the touchscreen working. I've been using Handcent for my texts, perhaps by some miracle is saves to the SD card?
If all else fails, I can replace the touchscreen myself. Where is a reputable source for a replacement for it?
My HT Desire HD touchscreen died (at least partly) last week. I can no longer use anything in a column about a centimetre wide that runs the whole right side of the screen - which includes the Enter button. So I can't actually login to the phone
I've bought a new phone (Sony Xperia Z) and got my sim copied and switched the SD card from the Desire to the Sony. However, there is still stuff on the phone. I've realised that at least some of my data was on the onboard memory and I'd like to get it back. So basically I'm looking for ways to get the data back.
I can't plug the phone in and pull data off because I need to be able to login to switch it from charge only to USB drive. Maybe there's a way to force this?
I read an interesting post on hooking a USB keyboard to android and it should "just work" (How To Connect a USB Keyboard To Your Android Phone). However, I don't have the adapter to connect it, and the Desire ran an older version of android with Sense on top, so it may "just not work".
My SGSII(AT&T)'s screen stopped working so they're sending me a new (or refurbished) one and then I have to send them mine. So is there any way to wipe the memory or factory reset the device (which is rooted but still has the stock rom) without the use of the screen? Also, when I plug it into my computer it doesn't appear in Computer (although the computer does know it's been plugged in by the sound it makes, maybe it's set to Charge Only even though I always had it set to data transfer).

I broke the screen/digitizer on my phone the other night. I got a new replacement phone through my mobile insurance. I was able to create a backup of my old phone through Kies since it's only the screen that won't work. However, upon further research, I'm seeing that Kies does not back up apps or app data. It says it does, when I selected everything while I was backing up but it won't let me when I try to restore it to the new device. It will only let me restore the contacts, pics, music etc.. which I already have on my micro SD card.
I've seen that people use helium backup but I am unable to do anything on my old device other than plugging it into a computer. I can't install helium on the old phone. Will I be able to backup the broken phone just with Helium Desktop?
I recently bought a GS4, and I've been learning my way around the camera and gallery, but today after shooting a bunch of photos to the SD card, half of them are all "broken images" and can't be viewed. I reformatted the SD. A friend of mine had the same problem when he had an HTC Inspire.

The screen is broken and the battery has been disconnected. When I put it in charge, it just shows the charging screen. The phone is a Winmax W8000 (Winmax is Bangladeshi company. I'm from Bangladesh). It runs on Jellybean (4.1). It wasn't rooted. I tried to get into Download mode, but pressing the volume buttons and plugging in the charger doesn't work.

My galaxy k's home button has been broken. And i wannted to use recovery.So I attached it with my computer, used cmd(adb reboot recovery). After that i was able to go in recovery. But after that I couldnt reboot it. I tried to use cmd. But it cant find my device.

And I want to transfer all my phone contacts across. On my Xperia, I've got "Phone contacts", and gmail contacts. I tried to import all my phone contacts by first exporting them to a simgle file, and transferring that file to the Samsung. And now I've got this vast list containing, it seems, everybody who I've ever called or emailed, including various names who I don't recognize at all. Is there any way (maybe a specialized app) of keeping my phone contacts and gmail contacts separate? And how do I manage my vast list of contacts?

When I connected my cellphone to the internet my cellphone contacts got contaminated with all my gmail contacts. This really pisses me off.
Aside from manually going through and deleting them, how can i turn this feature off?
I don't want my contacts to be synced with Google. IIRC, this was possible in 2.x. Having upgraded to 4.0.4, I'm not able to disable Google contacts.
I'd like to:
1. Disable contact sync (this works)
2. Change all contacts from Google contacts to phone contacts
3. Add new contacts as phone contacts by default.
Using the "Accounts and Sync" settings, I'm only able to deselect "Sync Contacts", but I can't find a way to move the contacts and disable the creation of new Google contacts.
how google accounts work. I got a phone previously owned by a family member and all his contacts are still in the phone. I was wondering if it is possible to delete all the contacts on the phone but not affect his google account contacts? Also, if i reformat the phone, will this delete all his google contacts?

I have a Droid 3. My Accounts include my main Gmail acct, a gmail acct I hardly ever use (no contacts issues there), a pop3 account and a Touchdown-Exchange account which I dont need because Im not connected to that Exchange server any longer. Some time ago, since I wasnt on the Exchange server any more, I deleted the Touchdown account. Then I realized some or most of my Google contacts had disappeared from the phone. Thinking that this would delete the same contacts from the Gmail servers when it synced, I immediately restored the Touchdown account, restoring the lost contacts to the phone. Are these 2 issues related?
Yesterday (08/08/10) my X10 said there was a new update available and to download correctly I needed to connect it to a computer update through PC Companion 2.0. I did this and followed all the on screen instructions correctly. I got to the final stage and it asked me to disconnect the phone switch it off remove the battery, reinsert and then turn it back on again. The instructions said it may take awhile for the phone to come back on again because the phone will be updating. So far my phone has not come back on again after 24 hours of waiting, all that happens is the sony ericsson logo is displayed for about 10 seconds and then the phone turns off then the same process is repeated. Any ideas whats happened or what I can do to fix this or will it be a job for Sony? I have emailed them but of course they were absolutly no help what so ever.

This phone, as promising as it is, keeps giving me head-aches.On my HTC Hero all my contacts (they are all "Google" contacts) are duplicate. I deleted all contacts from GMail (they were NOT duplicate on GMail), have seen my HTC resyncing my contacts various times since (while in the Settings->Data Sync->Google Menu), but all 2000+ contacts remain in my phone.Obviously, I'm just trying to delete duplicates (why they suddenly appeared I do not know), but at the moment my phone seem not to sync at all.Can any one tell me how to delete ALL Contacts from my phone and then resync (after I reimport my GMail contacts)? I would like to get some of the pictures off of the phone I took but i don't know how to do that. The phone still turns on you just can't see anything and when i try to connect it to the computer it sees the E and F drives but won't allow me to access them.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had to change the housing for my HTC Hero GSM Unlocked, and though I believe I didn't break/crack or damage anything, especially the speakers, after reassembly my speakers are not working any more, no more audible ring tone, sound notifications. Everything else is working fine, and with earphones, I can hear everything. I even re dissembled it and couldn't find anything that was broken, or loose, or damaged. Can anyone anyone point me in the right direction please! OR anyone know where I can get a new HTC Hero GSM version internal speaker? I managed to backup the files that I can see as "mass media storage" from the phone, the contacts are synced with Google account, but couldn't back up the SMS. Is there a way to access the android phone with PC? I'm trying screencast 0.4 but it looks like it requires "rooted" phone, which my phone is not.

View 17 Replies View RelatedSo I rooted both mine and my wife's phone to Ivan's 1.0 (2.1 with OC). Her Market works totally fine. It's fast and loads everything and all tabs are there. Mine was sort of working at first, now it's completely come to a halt. The "top paid" tab is missing (when does finally load), most of the time it just gets stuck on "loading". I've tried clearing cache, doing a factory reset, reflashing the ROM, using the market fix (that puts the "top paid" tab back, but doesn't fix the slowless). It's just seriously broken.
Again, I've flashed the exact same ROM on mine and my wife's Eris, and hers works totally fine. I've searched for this issue on google and it seems this is a common problem, but no one has found a solution that works for me. I've tried them all, and none of them work. If I would have known rooting was going to break something so basic I possibly wouldn't have done it.
i've been a (mostly) happy user of the milestone, as it is called over here, but in the past few days i noticed a problem.the compass in the phone is not only off, but virtually broken. it detects a constant reading "to the upper left", which simply overrides the earth's magnetic field. so, no matter how i turn the phone, north is always between one and two o'clock. by using the amazin tricorder app, i was able to find out that the magnitude of the reading differs significantly depending on the orientation of the phone, reaching almost "100" in the max, and about "65" when the phone is 18o turned. so i cleverly deduced that the magnetic flux sensors are still somehow active; but still, they turn out to be useless to me if they show a constant reading no matter.
