Android :: Downloading Of Updates Won't Start - How To Reset
Jun 9, 2010I'm using an HTC Desire, but have hit a problem. When I try and download updates to apps, they all hang on 'starting download'.
I built up quite a queue before I noticed, cancelled all, and tried them one at a time, no joy.
It doesn't seem to matter if I am using wifi or not...
I also tried killing all tasks, and powering off and on again.

Aug 2, 2010So I understand there are known issues with the Market getting stuck at "Starting Download" but here's my problem. I removed GoogleTalk which seems to be the route of the issue and now I can't seem to get it back. Also, ever since then I get the following error message upon booting: "The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. dumpstate_app_201008021101_com_google_process_gapp s.log has been saved. Use *#9900# to copy out log." I'd rather not have to factory reset since I'm already rooted and was just getting things the way I liked them.

Jun 15, 2012When i downloading torrents using my android phone over the WiFi, its connection lost several times. My phone WiFi policy is "Keep WI-Fi on during sleep" as "Always". I use "Torrent" app client. Most of the time Torrent display "No suitable network" error. If i turn on the screen, problem not fix.
I have android 4.0.3 ROM and i connected my phone into my ADSL router, not a public.

Aug 28, 2010I downloaded the froyo upgrade 2 days ago and it seems to have stopped my wifi working. Its not a problem with the router as other devices work on the router. I also checked my desire on other wifi networks and there is no connection to the internet. I manually put in the ip address and the wifi icon comes up but still no link to the internet. When I use my3G mobile internet everything works so it can only be a bug with froyo upgrade.

May 9, 2010Is there any reason that download speeds over my Wifi are soooo slow? I'm downloading a 150MB file from usenet and it's going to take about 20 minutes. Same file from this pc over the same Wifi takes under 2 minutes. I'm not looking for the exact same speed (though it would be awesome) but something more reasonable would be nice. Could it be the SD card is too slow in write performance? Just wondering if this is an issue with the phone, or a simple SD card upgrade.

However doing speed tests on my phone while connected to the Netgear router the highest speeds I seem to be able to get is around 2 Mbps. Recently my finace and I both noticed that when our phones are on WiFi instead of 3G/4G we can't get apps to download, we also noticed this happening on the Xoom which is really a problem since we don't have any mobile service on that. Nothing changed in our WiFi configuration between when it was working properly and now. And all devices did it at the same time. what may be affecting the devices to cause this to happen.

Jul 28, 2010I am in a deployed location in Afghanistan and within my compound, we utilize satellite internet and broadcast it via WIFI just for us who have paid. Some of the guys here have implemented a few security features so other people around us can hack our network. The WIFI is encrypted with WPA2 and a password.After that to surf on the internet on my laptop I have to input a proxy address of 10.10.8.2, I can connect to the wireless via my Desire, but I cant surf the internet, check email, or do anything that requires a data connection.Other people here have no problem getting their Ipod touches and Iphones on the WIFI.Is there some setting I am over looking because to me there are not a lot of settings I can change in the first place.If I need to download a program to help, please give info how to do so without an internet connection directly on the phone.

Jun 25, 2010I just got HTC Incredible, but am still using my blackberry storm and need to for another week or so - do not want to convert prior to the company moving to google mail. Anyhow, I managed to skip the activation and am playing with the phone on WiFi only - problem - I would love to play with some apps, but cannot figure how to get them to my phone! Googling it did not help me, and all I can see is what the apps are, not how to download them. Going into the "Market" app gives me "A server error occurred".
How the heck can I get some apps and play more with the phone prior to activating with Verizon. So far I am rather impressed with this device! Seems like the hardware/OS works very nice! Browsing, doing email some other things over WiFi is blazing fast, and in general the phone interface seems very nice and intuitive! Way better than by BB Storm! Sorry if the answers are out there - I just did not manage to find the right ones.

Its like "unable to start wifi" and after that i cant switch this process off, it shows "unable to turn wifi off". So to get rid of this i need to restart phone. So now i cant use wifi. I cant even turn off wifi notification, i don't see MAC address etc. Are there ways to fix that?

Nov 24, 2009I seem to have an intermittent error when trying to start WiFi. Mostly (>95%) of the time I get "unable to start WiFi". Occasionally it works but this is rare and usually when it has been switched off for a few days. The problem occurs when I try to start via the wi-fi widget or via the MenuSettingsWireless controls path. I'm reluctant to do a factory reset unless I really have no other option.

There is now a software update available (1.15.405.4) which i have tried to install OTA it all works except it says unable to start WIFI. I have tried to install it with both my Goldcard and normal SD card (not sure if that would make any difference)

Oct 18, 2010I'm getting this problem where I can connect to WiFi the first time with no problem but once I disconnect and the phone sleeps, it can't connect to the network again and says "Unable to Start WiFi", I can't even get to Wireless settings because it can't start the WiFi.
It's the same story with Bluetooth. It'll work once.
If I turn the phone off and then on again, it will work once more but only ONCE before doing the same thing again.

May 17, 2012I do know that downloading on Wi-Fi is faster than using data (or so I've read). My question is if I start a download using data connection then turn Wi-Fi on will the download see the Wi-Fi and jump on that to speed up our do I have to start on Wi-Fi for it to use Wi-Fi?

Oct 9, 2009I have just installed Donut version 1.6 on my HTC Dream. The install went smoothly. But when I try to start my WiFi I get the "unable to start wifi" message. Never had a problem in 1.5. I see wpa_supplicant doesn't have access to others, I tried changing the permissions of the directories and wpa_supplicant.conf file to 777 but they keep getting set back again so that other doesn't have access. Do I need to set up a special user?

Feb 2, 2010I bought a used unlocked Vodafone HTC Magic off of ebay, and got it setup with my Local GSM just fine. I can make calls, and receive texts no problem. Since I dont want a Data plan, I plan on relying on wifi for gmail services and whatnot. My problem is this. I cant get on wifi. When I go to settings>wireless controls> Wifi at the top says "Unable to start Wi-Fi" And no matter how many times I click it, it just wont start. When I go into Wi-Fi settings, "Add Wi-Fi network" is grayed out, and I cant add one. When I press the menu button while in that menu and select "Scan" It doesnt do anything, just goes away. Any ideas guys? I really want to get this phone working to its full potential.

Aug 30, 2010I have a strange issue - from time to time the animation that should fade out my control (ImageButton) does not kick in immediately. I am using the fadeout animation to hide it and then in myListener on its end (onAnimationEnd) I put new resource as the image on the button.
Somewhere in my app code:
Animation a = AnimationUtils.loadAnimation(this,R.anim.fadeout); a.setAnimationListener(new myListener(location)); buttons[location].setAnimation(a); a.startNow(); // regardless if its start() or startnNow() it will work in most of the cases but not 100% reliable I actually can see in debug Log when its late, happens after few more clicks
Then in myListener.onAnimationEnd(Animation a):buttons[location].setImageResource(R.drawable.standard_button);
Seems there is a rule that the every 4th or 5th animation does not start ...

Sep 24, 2013I don't own an Android 4.3 tablet yet but I need to know the following things.I wanted to restrict my device so that a user is unable to change any settings (in particular turn on/off WiFi) and disable all applications except one.How strict is the restriction?
If I disable all apps except one what will the restricted user be able to do?
In an ideal scenario I'd like the restricted user to do only 3 things:
a) turn the tablet on/off
b) turn the application of my choosing on/off
c) all other options would be disabled
d) the restricted user should NOT see any data of the administrator
