Android :: Downloading Of Updates Won't Start - How To Reset
Jun 9, 2010
I'm using an HTC Desire, but have hit a problem. When I try and download updates to apps, they all hang on 'starting download'.
I built up quite a queue before I noticed, cancelled all, and tried them one at a time, no joy.
It doesn't seem to matter if I am using wifi or not...
I also tried killing all tasks, and powering off and on again.

I've been trying to update a couple of applications that I have on my phone but everytime I try to download anything from marketplace, it just says "starting dowload..." and stays there. The application never actually downloads. I've dowloaded stuff in the past but I can't seem to download now. Is there something that I need to turn on

Why I'm unable to download updates and new apps etc. Each time it fails it says 'Download unsuccessful' and sometimes 'manual download required' as well. Internet and Wifi are working fine.

There's a lot of instructions floating around for unrooting the droid and what makes the most sense to me is to let the phone handle factory reset thereby bringing the phone back to its original out of the box configuration. By reset I'm referring to booting with power+x vol up+camerra and choosing factory reset from the list. Can someone who's done the reset on a rooted phone confirm that SU permissions are gone after? Also, does the reset delete all apps, system settings and user data and bring the phone back to a true factory state (including going back to OS 2.0)?

I am currently running a rooted Samsung Captivate. I have not flashed it or anything and am still running 2.1 with the firmware update (JH7). I rooted to get rid of AT&Ts bloatware which I did using System App remover. With Froyo on the way, I was wondering if a master reset would turn it back to stock (minus AT&T bloatware) and enable OTA updates again?

Did a factory reset about 2 hours ago. I have about 200 apps that I had downloaded before and they are all still saying "downloading" in the market. Not a single one has downloaded. I restarted the phone twice since, but they are all still downloading.

So I understand there are known issues with the Market getting stuck at "Starting Download" but here's my problem. I removed GoogleTalk which seems to be the route of the issue and now I can't seem to get it back. Also, ever since then I get the following error message upon booting: "The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. dumpstate_app_201008021101_com_google_process_gapp s.log has been saved. Use *#9900# to copy out log." I'd rather not have to factory reset since I'm already rooted and was just getting things the way I liked them.

How to start my LG Optimus Net P690 in recovery and downloading mode?
Which is the latest stock firmware available for my LG Optimus Net, my PC suite is always showing that no new version is available, but I am having 2.3.6 in my Galaxy POP while in LG its 2.3.4. LG Optimus Net is actually launched later than the galaxy POP...
Where I can find the LG stock firmwares? Is there any Custom ROMs available for LG Optimus Net P690?

I factory reset my old unused S3 and I'm now trying to re-purpose it (as a wifi only device). The problem is when I re-add my Google account to it, Google Play automatically starts re-downloading ALL my apps to it and I don't want that (probably over 100) - I just need 4 to 5 apps from that account re-downloaded (I don't mind doing it manually). How do I get Google Play to NOT automatically re-download all those apps?

Well right now I have a rooted droid thanks to sholesmod and am running bugless beast 0.7.6 at 800. From what I Have read, it is supposed to be one of the fastest ROMs out there. Too be honest, I have almost noticed it to be slower then .7.5. So I have decided to completely erase everything and start completely from scratch. I was going to go back to stock 2.01 and then do a factory restore. Then I was going to reformat my sd card. Would that be the best route to go if I wanted to start from scratch?

I've got some photos stuck in an MMS that I tried to download before I realised that I didnt have the correct MMS APN settings in (due to swapping to the Modaco ROM). The correct settings are now in but the MMS is stuck at "downloading" status. Is there any way I can rescue it, there is no forward option and I've successfully sent and recieved MMS since.

Why a Froyo factory reset really isn't (plus, a fix for upgrade issues) | Android Central Its in reference to the X but I am going to factory reset tonight and see what happens."If you're one of those folks who is less than pleased with your Droid X after the Froyo update, this one's for you. Android Central Forums member Fabrian was at wit's end, and even talked of ditching his X (blasphemy!) because of the random bugs, general weirdness, and plain old unsatisfactory performance of his unit since the update. His last-ditch effort and ingenuity seems to have paid off. The secret? He has completely disabled the Froyo feature that restores data from previous installs. It's really just a matter of turning off the automatic restore feature before logging back into your Google account. It's a little odd that "Automatic Restore" is still checked by default, even when "Back up my data" isn't, but there you go.The method isn't too painful and does require one more factory reset, but the payoff appears to be a much smoother experience. Makes sense, too restoring data from Eclair to Froyo probably isn't a very good idea even if it is convenient.
We've verified it here, a hard reset in Froyo isn't really a hard reset, as things come back by themselves. Follow Fabrian's instructions, and you will have a pristine Froyo installation on your Droid X (or Nexus One -- Sense on Froyo has no setting for this that we could find). Any troublemaking leftovers will be no more, and won't get downloaded and installed automatically again. If you're being plagued with myriad tiny bugs in your Droid X after the update, give it a try! [Android Central Forums] Thanks Fabrian, nice sleuthing!"

Is there a way of telling the phone with apps (not necessary for the proper functioning of the phone) start at start-up and which don't? I hate for unnecessary apps to auto start.

This may be a silly question... but I was just wondering. Is a hard reset is a battery pull and is a soft reset a "alt +right shift+delete" ?

Just ran reset on my phone twice...it rebooted and nothing was removed! Never seen this before anyone have any thoughts? I'm on CM 5.0.7.1, and haven't seen this behavior before on that or any other ROM. Gonna boot into recovery and do it manually.

Long time Droid user, brand new to the Fascinate Forum. I just bought my wife a Samsung Fascinate and I have to say the thing is absolutely phenomenal! It makes my Motorola Droid look like a 1990's flip phone!! Except for one problem the darned thing has been automatically spontaneously performing a factory reset / hard reset on itself. And it is happening at completely random times. You're sitting there playing a game, you're reading your e-mail or you just pushed the screen ON / power button to wake the phone up and unlock it and then, all of a sudden The phone reboots to the black and white Samsung startup screen, then recovery pops up and yellow writing appears that says "Formatting FOTA:", "Formatting DATA:", "Formatting CACHE:". Then the phone reboots again and comes up like you just pulled it out of the box; a full factory reset / hard reset. The contents of the SD card are thankfully fine.Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to turn on some sort of logging so that maybe I can figure out what causes it? This is now the second phone that this is happening to. We took the first phone back to Verizon the very same day we got it and they swapped it out right there for another brand new one. The second phone behaved perfectly for three whole days before it went and wiped itself. We thought for sure that the problem was with the first phone, but now it is happening with the second phone.I am going to start from scratch again, adding one app at a time making sure the thing continues to work. But there weren't any apps on the device in the first place that were really out of the ordinary.- Gmail POP3 Yahoo- Corporate E-Mail to Microsoft Exchange Server (No, it wasn't the Exchange Admin sending a kill package, I'm the Exchange Admin)
- Angry Birds
- Robodefense
- Facebook
- Beautiful Widgets
- Cal Widget
- Google Maps
- Pandora
I have all of those apps and more on my Motorola Droid (also connected to the same Exchange Server) and my device is behaving just fine.I'm trying to think of reasons this might happen and I'm drawing a complete blank.

I have a strange issue - from time to time the animation that should fade out my control (ImageButton) does not kick in immediately. I am using the fadeout animation to hide it and then in myListener on its end (onAnimationEnd) I put new resource as the image on the button.
Somewhere in my app code:
Animation a = AnimationUtils.loadAnimation(this,R.anim.fadeout); a.setAnimationListener(new myListener(location)); buttons[location].setAnimation(a); a.startNow(); // regardless if its start() or startnNow() it will work in most of the cases but not 100% reliable I actually can see in debug Log when its late, happens after few more clicks
Then in myListener.onAnimationEnd(Animation a):buttons[location].setImageResource(R.drawable.standard_button);
Seems there is a rule that the every 4th or 5th animation does not start ...

I've recently Hard Reset (factory reset) my HTC Evo after backing up Applications using File Explorer App. Now, that these applications were restored from the backup, I can't see them in Market Download and therefore I don't receive any updates for them. Per say, I've Smart Keyboard Pro, and I know there's new updated version out but unless I buy the App again, I won't get it. How do you get updates on Applications like these and other?

Earlier today, we released updates to several different components in the Android SDK. Xav announced these updates via the Android Developers blog: http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2009/12/android-sdk-updates.html. If you want to follow the blog via Twitter, you can now do so via [url]
In addition to the new tools and platforms, there's one other important change that I wanted to point out. We've added additional clarification to the docs about android:maxSdkVersion and what effects it might have on your app if you use it. You can see these details here: [url]

Can someone tell me, what is the best way to deal with situations when there is no GPS signal or from some reason fix cannot be acquired?
The thing is that I thought that it would be sufficient just to use onStatusChanged method from LocationListener, but when there is no GPS signal it never calls this method. Why is that?

We have a variety of devices for testing purposes, and now that Froyo is being pushed (to the Nexus One so far at least), we have to constantly dismiss upgrade requests. There is no apparent "stop asking me" button.
So, is there any way I can disable OTA OS updates? We want a number of these phones to stay on old OS versions.
