im not sure if there is a app that does this but i want to automatically start a service/app (VPN) when joining a open/free wifi if not, then how would i best do this?

I am having service inside a .apk file. I want to automatically start this service when this package is downloaded from the browser and installed. Is it possible to automatically start the service when the .apk file gets installed using some special intents.
I am right now using activity and broadcast recievers to start the service . But however, I would like to start the service automatically when the apk file gets installed with out writting activity or broadcast recievers.
how to define a service that launch automatically at startup and / or when installation without having to go through "activity". I look beautiful everywhere, I do found that the functions and BindService but StartService which requires action outside.

I got my Xperia P more than a month ago and never had this problem. Now even if i kill all processes using the official or a third-party app, a few minutes later a number of apps are running again in the background and killing my battery.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi have upgraded my viewsonic pad from gingerbread to ics, downloaded from official site, no problem installing it, everything is fine except when i open anything whether app or not (eg settings) after a few mins the tablet automatically goes back to home screen, i have noticed that it occurs more when i am holding it if its on a stable surface it doesn't do it as much. i have tried redownloading the file and installing twice now and its still the same.

My mom was messing around on her note 2 and I dont know what she did but now everytime we try to open google chrome it automatically opens the youtube app. We can only get past this if we press back enough times to get back to chrome but this happens every time and its really annoying.

I am using the Stock ROM, My mobile is rooted.
I am also using GO Launcher EX and Go Locker.
Each time i lock my phone and keep it for a while ( 15 minutes or more i think ) The Facebook Messengers and Whatsapp's Background service closes automatically, which lead that i don't receive any notifications.
BUT .. When i unlock the phone the service restart and opens again, but this made me lose many conversations because i didn't receive the notification. And Here is a test i made :
1- Lock the phone
2- keep messaging periodically my phone and i kept receiving notifications for long time ( 1 hour + )
3-but when i stopped sending myself messages and the phone was idle for 15min+ then i messeged my phone again, no notifications were received
4-after i unlock the phone and then i instantly gone to "Running Service tab" to check the service i found them " Restarting".
5-after they finished their restart i received the missed notifications.
Note : I Don't have any Auto-Task killer applications ( i had before but uninstalled it )
I am getting following message when i try to launch service.Also is there any specific path on file system where we need to place the .apk file which contains my serivce component only.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a Galaxy Nexus phone recently and since I'm not familiar with Android (ICS) at all it took me a while to get used to it.
Since I was not very satisfied with the pre-installed googleCalendar I was told to install the app aCalendar, which I was very happy with for a while. But whenever there was an Calendar alarm which I wanted to change the note opened in the old googleCalendar. And that's why I thought I might change that by disabling the googleCalendar. Yes, what I did not know at that time was that the aCalendar depends on the googleCalendar. Afterwards I couldn't make any entries to the aCalendar anymore. So I went back to the apps-list and to my horror there was no appropriate button for enabling the calendar again (why not???). In despair I went to Settings and Reset app preferences, which seemed to work for a while - the old Calendar worked again.
A couple of days later, however (I don't have the slightest clue whether it had anything to do with my former actions or with anything else) it stopped working again and I didn't find any possibility to start it again - which is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING, since I need a calendar!
HOW do I start the googleCalendar again??? If I go the app in the app-list it obviously still exists, but there is NO button to make it start again! (Why do they put an DISABLE-button there, if they don't give you the option to ENABLE it again!?)
I have a file manager installed and I see that the calendar app is stored in /system/app (actually there are two calendar files - CalendarGoogle.apk & CalendarProvider.apk). When I try to say install, it won't install and says App not installed. ?
Don't come up with things like "You have to root your mobile", because this is no option for me and I don't want to mess up with the system even more).
lately in my Asus Padfone 2, the wifi keeps turning on automatically without my permission. Everytime I wake the screen from lock screen, I can already see the WiFi indicator is on above, it's driving me nuts I have to turn it back off every once in a while. This only happen lately when I install many apps from Store I can't remember, so I reckon one of those apps is the main cause of this problem. Which in my running apps turns on my WiFi automatically?

I am looking for a way to get my wifi to start on boot. I hate going to the settings every time especially when some programs start searching for the connection automatically. I didn't know if there was a setting or an app to get it going.

I receive a lot of work emails and it uses data unnecessarily when it downloads on my phone when I am at work. Ideal will be to only download when I change the setting. Don't want to turn of data completely because then all the other apps stop working too (WhatsApp, facebook etc.)
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter reading a great post in the forum I setup my HTC Inspire 4G phone to teather...it works great! I followed the same steps on my fiancee's Inspire 4G and it didn't work so well. When I click the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot box in Settings > Wireless & Networks it turns on the Wi-Fi...and it is detectable by other devices...but then it immediately and automatically turns off.
We have the same phone purchased on the same day and I used the same Access Point Name settings as detailed in the excellent Android Forum thread. I even deleted and re-created the Access Point to make sure I didn't mistype anything but the same Portable Wi-Fi turns on then immediately turns off problem exists.
It's done this twice now (before and after factory reset). 2.1 OTA, not rooted.
Whenever I turn on the wifi, or I become in range of my WPA2 network, it doesn't always connect. I say "always" because it seems to be random. If I toggle wifi on or off, it doesn't always connect. Sometimes it connects after 30+ seconds. Every other device connects just fine.
The only sure way to get it to connect is to force it to rescan, usually by going to Settings and displaying all SSIDs in range. THEN it connects, always and immediately.
The even sillier thing is, it will alert me of open networks, but never connect to my own saved network.
Any 'Tasker' like program I can use on my windows PC? I'd like to be able to have my computer recognize when my S3 connects to my router, and automatically do things, like start up Spotify. Seems like this would be pretty simple, but my searches have turned up nothing...

My understanding is that this is adequate to keep my traffic from being sniffed by DroidSheep (Android), FireSheep (Windows), or other packet sniffers.
