I just got my new Droid X (2.2-rooted) and I have downloaded the wifi tether app from android-wifi-tether and I want to set up a secure, private connection in general for my laptop and phone as well as for downloading torrents on my laptop through my phone. I tried using the TOR/Orbit app but it's not working. I use Peerblock/Vuze on my laptop that will be handling my torrents but am not sure if that will keep me private over my wifi tether... I would think not. Please help me if you can. Any suggestions on configurations that would help me do this? I also just heard something about Torrent-Fu... not sure what that is yet but maybe it will help as well.

I have here a function that downloads data from a remote server to file. I am still not confident with my code. My question is, what if while reading the stream and saving the data to a file and suddenly I was disconnected in the internet, will these catch exceptions below can really catch that kind of incident? If not, can you suggest how to handle this kind of incident?
I call this function in a thread so that the UI won't be blocked.

I recently rooted my galaxy 2 sgh-t989d. Then i installed some root apps including tor and every app on my phone goes through tor now. My bittorrent still worked. In between I think I flashed a clockwork recovery mod through rom manager. Now my torrents won't start and get no peers. I've tried utorrent and bittorrent.

We have multiple Android devices in our home my Motorola Photon Q and my fiance's Samsung Galaxy S2. In addition to our Motorola Xoom. Recently my finace and I both noticed that when our phones are on WiFi instead of 3G/4G we can't get apps to download, we also noticed this happening on the Xoom which is really a problem since we don't have any mobile service on that. Nothing changed in our WiFi configuration between when it was working properly and now. And all devices did it at the same time. what may be affecting the devices to cause this to happen.

Plugging it in and out doesnt work, switching it off doesnt work, not even removing the battery. What is this and how can I stop it? Also, i've never upgraded my software, not sure how or if I can.. My girlfriend has an s3 and she keeps telling me how awesome the new software is, yet I've never been able to update mine...

Alright, I have a Droid 2 (actually my second one; both have had this problem), although it's not really a model-specific issue.
When I'm walking with the phone in my pocket and listening to headphones, the phone will occasionally think that the headphones have come unplugged when they haven't. This causes it to pause, and I have to take the phone out and unpause it.
Is there any way to disable the 'pause on headphone disconnect' feature? I understand that this is a hardware issue, but there is really no reason for it to pause, as the headphones are still connected.
The phone is rooted and Liberty ROM 3 v2.0 is installed, but the issue occurred when the phone was stock, too.

I downloaded the froyo upgrade 2 days ago and it seems to have stopped my wifi working. Its not a problem with the router as other devices work on the router. I also checked my desire on other wifi networks and there is no connection to the internet. I manually put in the ip address and the wifi icon comes up but still no link to the internet. When I use my3G mobile internet everything works so it can only be a bug with froyo upgrade.

Is there any reason that download speeds over my Wifi are soooo slow? I'm downloading a 150MB file from usenet and it's going to take about 20 minutes. Same file from this pc over the same Wifi takes under 2 minutes. I'm not looking for the exact same speed (though it would be awesome) but something more reasonable would be nice. Could it be the SD card is too slow in write performance? Just wondering if this is an issue with the phone, or a simple SD card upgrade.

I have sky 20 Mbps broadband and as I live close to the exchange, tend to get pretty much that. However doing speed tests on my phone while connected to the Netgear router the highest speeds I seem to be able to get is around 2 Mbps. Is there anything I can do to increase the speed to which my phone can download from the router?

I am in a deployed location in Afghanistan and within my compound, we utilize satellite internet and broadcast it via WIFI just for us who have paid. Some of the guys here have implemented a few security features so other people around us can hack our network. The WIFI is encrypted with WPA2 and a password. After that to surf on the internet on my laptop I have to input a proxy address of 10.10.8.2, I can connect to the wireless via my Desire, but I cant surf the internet, check email, or do anything that requires a data connection.Other people here have no problem getting their Ipod touches and Iphones on the WIFI.Is there some setting I am over looking because to me there are not a lot of settings I can change in the first place. If I need to download a program to help, please give info how to do so without an internet connection directly on the phone.

I'm experiencing problems when trying to download apps from the Market over WiFi; I can browse the Market perfectly over WiFi, but when I try download and install it gets stuck, until I turn WiFi off and activate a 3G data connection, then everything works. Does anybody knows if it is supposed to be a bug or a feature?

I just got HTC Incredible, but am still using my blackberry storm and need to for another week or so - do not want to convert prior to the company moving to google mail. Anyhow, I managed to skip the activation and am playing with the phone on WiFi only - problem - I would love to play with some apps, but cannot figure how to get them to my phone! Googling it did not help me, and all I can see is what the apps are, not how to download them. Going into the "Market" app gives me "A server error occurred".
How the heck can I get some apps and play more with the phone prior to activating with Verizon. So far I am rather impressed with this device! Seems like the hardware/OS works very nice! Browsing, doing email some other things over WiFi is blazing fast, and in general the phone interface seems very nice and intuitive! Way better than by BB Storm! Sorry if the answers are out there - I just did not manage to find the right ones.

I'm using the official Bluetooth API and no problem during connection (SPP profile), but when I end the socket, the sensor is still connected to my phone (although I have close the connection).
Are there any way to make a Bluetooth disconnection? I think there is an intent called ACTION_ACL_CONNECTED, which does that. Can anyone explain me how to use this?code...

I have my G1 connected to a FM transmitter in my car with my bluetooth headset connected. Music has no problem going out the G1. A call comes in and I connect it. After I disconnect the call, the sound does not go out the adapter on the G1, but out the phone's speaker. Is there any setting to make sure the sound goes out the bottom adapter and not the phone's speaker?

"How do you hang up incoming calls (in Android of course)?"First, I know this question has been asked and answered several times, and the response is always "you can't". But if we look in the market we get a few applications (all private software, no access to the source code that do this action, such as CallFilter, Panda firewall and others. So does somebody know how these apps do the hang up action, (or terminate, or disconnect or whatever you call it)?And other question, if the first don't get a response.. does somebody know how send an incoming call to the voice mail?Of course, all questions are about how to do it programmatically. So with the voicemail question I know there's a flag in contacts that is used for that, but like I said, I'd like to know the programmatical way.

In my Android program, I have some code that downloads a file. This works fine, but since on a cell phone, you can be disconnected at any time, I need to change it do it reconnects and resumes the download when you are halfway through and somebody calls/you lose cell reception/etc. I cannot figure out how to detect the InputStream has stopped working. See the code...
And then my program just hangs on the while( (len1 = etc. I need to make it so when the Internet gets disconnected I wait for the Internet to be connected again and then resume the download.
