Android :: Wake Locks And Cellular Antenna
Sep 30, 2009
When the application has a PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK, the CPU stays turned on, but what about the cellular antenna? Does the PhoneStateListener not receive any change in state from the antenna when the PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK is acquired?I have an application that needs to continuously read the signal strength while the user isn't using the phone.I suspect I need a FULL_WAKE_LOCK to do that. Is that true?

System settings -> Location services -> Disable google's location service & Location&Google search
Are there any downsides to disabling those? I mean for other apps than googles? Because "Also allow permitted apps to use data from sources such as Wi-Fi andmobile networks to determine your approximate location" doesn't sound all that great to disable. It sounds like this would disable all the apps that want to access those services, not only the google ones, but that wouldn't be true would it?
Basically speaking, I just want to disable all of googles crap (Maps has the most horrible wakelocks ever and from what I can tell none of the other google services I use need my location) without limiting any other apps I might have installed.

Every time i lock the screen the SIM locks as well, meaning I have to enter the SIM pin code every time I unlock the phone! Also no one can call me since the SIM is locked. Anyone else got this problem? This happened once in a while on 1.6 but since my update to 2.1 this morning it happens every time.

Apple really ticked me off with their latest stupid video.. Check out my article where i cover their latest video and have my own response to its ignorance. Apple's New Slogan Should Be, "When we mess up, everyone does!" NOTE: I do not dislike Apple products, I dislike Apple.

I'm doing a research on Cellular-WiFi switch and finding any mechanism to handle cellular hand off.As far as i've found,an http request is routed through WiFi network if connected even gprs/cellular connection is present.
My queries are:
1)Does this switch happens automatically ? If yes, which part of framework or code does that?
2)Does the http request drop in such situation due to cellular hand off ? Is there any way to handle such hand off ?
3)Does gprs cellular connection reconnects automatically when WiFi gets disconnected ?
4)Which type of alerts or notifications normally user gets in such situations ?
Yours feedback and inputs will be of great help for me in this activity.

I think the Android emulator has the capability to emulate incoming phone calls but I am wondering if there is a capability to place outgoing calls to existing cellular networks through the appropriate hardware interface. Is there any documentation of such a functionality I look into?

Lets say I have 2 mobile phones which are 50 meters away from each other and I would like to send a very small packet of data from mobile-A to mobile-B, without using any communication to cellular tower. To make it simpler, I would like to build an app which implements a Peer to Peer connection for 2 mobiles in the same radius (in the same area). Is this feasible using the technology of smartphones these days?

I went on antennaseach.com and found a clearwire tower .13 miles from my house. Does this guarantee I will get 4G coverage? I'm a bit south of the L.A. area.

I want to use the FME female connector below the battery for an external antenna mod. I bought a FME cable for another phone and I'll see if it fits. I want to use a telescoping antenna for it for portability, but I'm open to using something like the Wilson Electronics mirror mount antenna.Has anyone done this? This is a general Verizon/FME question, but since I have a Dinc, I thought I'd post it here. I'm going to drill a hole in the back cover and route the cable to the top of the phone. I live in a weak signal area and drop about 10% of my calls.

Does anyone know how the Evo's antenna will compare with the Hero?I just moved to sprint to get the Evo, but had to switch early. My wife and I were given Heroes to hold us over for two weeks until the Evo launch.I'm noticing that i'm having reception issues in areas where my iphone, and Incredible got decent to great coverage. Is this an issue with the Hero alone or a sign of Sprints smaller footprint then AT&T and Verizon?

My reception at work is terrible. My colleagues have full reception, and I dont have a signal at all. Seems to be an issue with some of the desire handsets. Have any of you tried any passive antenna boosters, like this one: HTC Desire Antenna Booster ? Or some bigger boosters that I can place on my desk.
I love my phone, but it is essential that I can use it while im in the office.

Just came from twitter where HTCPedia had this article about the black, yellow and red insides of new phones. and they said the antenna was located on the back of the battery door and if you had it off you would have no signal haha im just a little amused i guess by that because i dont really understand how this works i mean if it doesnt connect somehow when the door is on and im a little worried the signal might not be the best what if the battery door gets loose or something idk what do you guys think From Black to Yellow and Red. Hoping I just did something stupid, rooted my old eris, played around with xtrsense for a while and it sat in a drawer for even longer since I typically carry the Dinc....well then I wanted to try a froyo rom on it so downloaded and installed KaosFroyo on it, then I got sidetracked and it sat in the drawer again until I wanted to use it at work to test lotus traveler on android and here is where the fun starts. The Eris won't activate, its like the radio will not even turn on. The signal bars just have a little x by them, no matter what rom I throw on there or nand backup I use its like the radio is borked? Any ideas on how to fix? am I missing a radio update from somewhere? then fail #2 I can't find my password to download the android traveler beta now anyway...grrI just tried flashing a different radio still doing the same thing. I'm confused

I am trying to install an external WIFI antenna on my tablet (BQ Maxwell 2 Plus, rooted, CM10.1). The model of the antenna is TP - Link 722n.I have downloaded the drivers from backports project and, after compiling them, I have 8 .ko modules:
- ath.ko
- ath9k.ko
- ath9k_common.ko
- ath9k_htc.ko
- ath9k_hw.ko
- cfg80211.ko
- compat.ko
- mac80211.ko
When I try to insmod the cfg80211.ko module, an error occurs. The dmesg output is:
Code:
cfg80211: exports duplicate symbol __ieee80211_get_channel (owned by kernel)

We here in the US have just been able to get the Desire, just released 8/27. When I read the user manual it states that there is suppose to be a "FM radio". I see no icon/app for it. Is this something that US cellular has deprogrammed? Is the hardware in the phone?

I was curious where the cell phone antenna for the 1x/3G coverage was located.I live in an area with excellent verizon service and when phone is in standby, the incredible gets one bar. When I make a call, it miraculously gets full coverage.I think its on the bottom of the phone, but is it on the very bottom edge (like where the microphone is) or is it along the back side of the phone. How is the best way to hold the phone to maximize service?

New to this phone and loving it. I live out in the boonies and no DSL/Cable, no other carriers have 3G, so been using the tethered phone (Yes, 2GB + $10/GB ... I know!). Phone likes to switch between EDGE/3G. Phone unrooted.
1) Any app to easily force 3G only? I know about the dial #*#*197328640#*#* -> Option 1 -> Option 8 -> Option 4 -> RAT to WCDMA setting but would prefer an app for when I take the phone out with me.
2) Ordered an external antenna / connector. Will I really have to drill a hole in my battery cover? There has to be somewhere I can order a battery cover from with the hole there already? I can't be the only person wanting to do this.

I'm looking for a place, where is installed a GPS antenna in my Milestone. I found 2 antennas, one integrated with a speaker, bottom of the cover, probably GSM antenna
And the second one, installed on the right side of the cover, probably WiFi and bluetooth.
Is one of this antennas a GPS antenna or there is another one? I have hardware problem with my GPS and I'm trying to repair it but I don't know where to look for it.
