HTC Incredible :: Cell Phone Antenna For 1x/3G Coverage Was Located
Jun 22, 2010
I was curious where the cell phone antenna for the 1x/3G coverage was located.I live in an area with excellent verizon service and when phone is in standby, the incredible gets one bar. When I make a call, it miraculously gets full coverage.I think its on the bottom of the phone, but is it on the very bottom edge (like where the microphone is) or is it along the back side of the phone. How is the best way to hold the phone to maximize service?

I'm considering renting an apt where I do not have cell coverage. What I want to know is this: is there a way to receive and make calls by having my phone connected to my wifi?I have a Samsung Moment.

Does anyone know where the antenna is located on the moment? I have a repeater in my truck with a small antenna that I want to mount in my cradle but I do not know if the antenna on the moment is near the bottom or top or center.

No matter where I go I have terrible 3G coverage. Either a weak signal or no coverage at all. I've had a blackberry before and always had great 3G coverage in these same areas. What could be the problem?

I want to use the FME female connector below the battery for an external antenna mod. I bought a FME cable for another phone and I'll see if it fits. I want to use a telescoping antenna for it for portability, but I'm open to using something like the Wilson Electronics mirror mount antenna.Has anyone done this? This is a general Verizon/FME question, but since I have a Dinc, I thought I'd post it here. I'm going to drill a hole in the back cover and route the cable to the top of the phone. I live in a weak signal area and drop about 10% of my calls.

Just yesterday my phone was getting more than 14+ hours of battery. Now it's draining really quickly even when I'm not using it (I left it on while I was asleep). It's not facebook because I already downloading the fix and rebooted. My "time without signal" is 0% so I don't think that's the problem. I did download Quickpedia yesterday but a quick search tells me that's not the problem either.
The only other thing I did differently was switch from ADW to LauncherPro yesterday, but if that was draining the battery wouldn't it be under Android System and not standby or idle? Regardless, I switched back to ADW just to see if that works

Just came from twitter where HTCPedia had this article about the black, yellow and red insides of new phones. and they said the antenna was located on the back of the battery door and if you had it off you would have no signal haha im just a little amused i guess by that because i dont really understand how this works i mean if it doesnt connect somehow when the door is on and im a little worried the signal might not be the best what if the battery door gets loose or something idk what do you guys think From Black to Yellow and Red. Does anyone use a better program? Or is it better to pay for the upgraded version? Has anyone found a way to attach the Droid to their arm or waist? Where is the GPS antenna located? If my wife makes me a arm band for it I want to be able to have that portion of my phone exposed.

I've experienced two problems with Google Voice that are causing me to get charged minutes I wouldn't usually get charged. If I can't solve them, I'll have to go back to using my Verizon number. First, let me say that I'm using a new Google Voice number that isn't Verizon cell phone number or any other preexisting number. Second, my girlfriend is on my family plan, but she doesn't have GV yet. We're using the 700-minute plan, so we don't have a friends circle.
Problem 1: When I call my girlfriend's Verizon wireless phone using the GV on my Verizon phone, I get charged, and when she calls my GV number on my Verizon Wireless phone from her Verizon wireless phone, she gets charged. We don't cash in on our free in-network calling. I know, this should have been obvious, but it just never occurred to me until after I looked at the bill. I'd be able to work with that, though, and just select "Call without using Google Voice" or whatever when calling her if it weren't for the second problem. When people call my Google Voice number, I get charged when I don't answer. Usually, it's just a one-minute charge, but sometimes it's two or three minutes (don't know why). With anything less than an unlimited plan, minutes count. Not good.

I'm writing an android application that collects cell signal strengths.I am having trouble getting the "current" cell signal strength, but I don't have any problem getting the "neighboring" cell signal strengths. To get the current cell signal strength, I created a PhoneStateListener and implemented the onSignalStrengthChanged callback. It works, but not very well.It seems like the signal strength hardly ever changes, and resolution jumps to only a few numbers.I would accept the answer that the resolution of the signal strength hardware is coarse, but when I use the TelephonyManager's getNeighboringCellInfo() method, it works much better. The signal strength readings from neighboring cells change frequently, and they have much better resolution. So, how can I get the current cell signal strength in the same way that I am getting the neighboring cell strengths? It seems odd to me that the functionality of the neighboring cells is better than the current cell.

I have observed with my HTC Hero that it needs phone coverage for the GPS to work. For applications like the GPS tracker and my position they did not work in places where there was no phone coverage. Could some one please let me know whether this is the case or do I need to change my settings for the GPS to work independently of Phone coverage.

I know it is possible to use TelephonyManager to get information like: service state, device ID, Sim Operator, etc...
Is it possible to edit some of this information?
Couldn't find .set() functions on Android.com documentation but I've found the GSMPhone.java source code which includes functions like .setNumber1Number() (used to set/edit the number?).
I basically want to know if it's possible to edit the phone number located on Sim card (Settings->About->Status->My Phone Number).
Appreciate any answer, even a simple "NO", if it's indeed impossible.

We had a shock at work yesterday when our Orange bill arrived charging me 826.00 for the 1032mb of data I used over my 500mb allowance in the first month of owning a Desire. At the moment we're negotiating with Orange about that, and they're even sending me something approaching an itemised data bill to look at, but in the future I want to get onto a truly unlimited data account to prevent this happening again. Early indications from Orange are that they only do 500mb bolt ons and no more (and it's very hard to actually confirm this on their not too informative website), meaning this issue could easily rear it's ugly head again. If this is the case then I have to consider going elsewhere. Even though we're only in the first month of the contract I'm prepared to completely downgrade my Orange account and keep it running for my wife or something, and to take out a new account with O2 on an unlimited data package (plus I'll have 2 Desires to play with). The only trouble is that in the past (but not in the last 2 or 3 years) I've heard some horror stories about O2's coverage in the West Midlands (I live near to Wolverhampton) and wondered if anybody has local knowledge and can advise whether this has changed in recently.

I've read all the threads I could find in here about turning off the cell radio but none have addressed this particular configuration. The reason I want to do this is because I don't use my Incredible for talking, I just use it as a computer. For talking I use a cheap little "dumb phone" so to conserve battery while i'm out n about all day, i would love to be able to have the cell radio off while 3g is on. If anyone knows of any way/app to achieve this.

Anyone else experienced a major drop in 3G signal as well as their cell signal in the past few days? I think it started monday on my phone and now its mostly running in 1X mode and dropping more calls than I have in the past two years. Not sure if its something with verizon, or maybe and app I updated. (My wifes phone is doing the same, but she also happened to update about a dozen apps on monday)

I have the HTC Incredible and I really like it. I'm amazed at everything I can do with it. The only problem is; I live in an area with really bad cell phone service. I hardly get any bars, one if I'm lucky. So I got to thinking about all the apps available for the droid phones. And I started to wondering if there is any way to use my wifi connection to help me get out on my cell phone. Or if there is an app out to help with this.
