HTC Desire HD :: Mobile Network Widget - Switching Off/on Mobile Network Setting From Home Screen

Oct 29, 2010

I have been trying to find a way of quickly switching off/on the Mobile Network setting from the home screen. When searching Google there's loads of pages stating that it is an HTC Widget that can be added. I have checked all the widgets on the Desire HD and cannot seem to find it anywhere. I am using an unbranded handset.

The Desire HD manual even states "You can also add widgets that allow you to quickly switch on or off certain settings of your phone, such as Wi-Fi, Mobile Network...".

Does anyone else with an HD handset have this widget ?

General :: Galaxy S4 Mini Switching Wireless Off Itself And No Network

Apr 3, 2014

I have a galaxy s4 mini and since this morning it won't connect to the network (I am with three - they have checked there are not signal problems in my area) AND I can't connect to my wireless (definitely working as I am using my iPad to write this.

So when I go to switch the wireless on, on the phone, it flicks itself back off again and doesn't even go green like it normally does.

I don't know if either of the following two things would have affected this or not:

1) my phone downloaded some Samsung update yesterday (via 3G, don't know if it completed though). Phone says its using android version 4.2.2 - is that relevant?

2) got my phone on to the wireless system lat night (because of MAC address filtering) but it was working fine last night.

Anyway I have tried all the standard things - switching my phone on and off, taking the SIM card out etc but still no network and no wireless.

Android :: Cellular-WiFi Switch

Feb 3, 2010

I'm doing a research on Cellular-WiFi switch and finding any mechanism to handle cellular hand off.As far as i've found,an http request is routed through WiFi network if connected even gprs/cellular connection is present.

My queries are:

1)Does this switch happens automatically ? If yes, which part of framework or code does that?

2)Does the http request drop in such situation due to cellular hand off ? Is there any way to handle such hand off ?

3)Does gprs cellular connection reconnects automatically when WiFi gets disconnected ?

4)Which type of alerts or notifications normally user gets in such situations ?

Yours feedback and inputs will be of great help for me in this activity.

Android :: Wake Locks And Cellular Antenna

Sep 30, 2009

When the application has a PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK, the CPU stays turned on, but what about the cellular antenna? Does the PhoneStateListener not receive any change in state from the antenna when the PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK is acquired?I have an application that needs to continuously read the signal strength while the user isn't using the phone.I suspect I need a FULL_WAKE_LOCK to do that. Is that true?

Android :: Communicating Between Two Smartphones Without Using Cellular Tower

Aug 14, 2010

Lets say I have 2 mobile phones which are 50 meters away from each other and I would like to send a very small packet of data from mobile-A to mobile-B, without using any communication to cellular tower. To make it simpler, I would like to build an app which implements a Peer to Peer connection for 2 mobiles in the same radius (in the same area). Is this feasible using the technology of smartphones these days?

Android :: Android To Open Network Connection On Specified Network Interface - Network Type

Mar 6, 2009

I have been looking at the ConnectivityManager class documented at http://developer.android.com/reference/android/net/ConnectivityManage... .

I would like to know if an Android application can open a network connection (socket) on a specified network interface [on a device supporting multiple network interface types WiFi, Cellular, WiMax etc] ? I am looking for the capability for an application to open a socket on a given type of network for example over WiFi network or over 3G Cellular Data network.

If this is possible in Android, how would I code this requirement within the API Framework ? The ConnectivityManager enables an application to learn about available network connections and currently categorises them as either TYPE_WIFI or TYPE_MOBILE.

There is a member function in the ConnectivityManager class called requestRouteToHost(int, int) [url] which "Ensure that a network route exists to deliver traffic to the specified host via the specified network interface. An attempt to add a route that already exists is ignored, but treated as successful." Sounds like this would install an IP routing table entry to reach a given host via a specified network interface type (WiFi or Mobile). After calling this would it be sufficient for an application to open a socket and connect to the desired destination address ?

Or perhaps the application needs to bind() a socket to a local address of a network interface of the desired type (WiFi or Mobile) Or by setting a socket-level socket option of SO_DONTROUTE ?

General :: Remove Cellular / GPS Capability From ROM / Kernel?

Aug 29, 2013

I'm interested in purchasing a Nexus 4 I have no cellphone plan, nor do I want one; instead I intend to use the phone as a tablet or PDA.

I would like to hear some feedback on how feasible it is to low-level remove the cell and gps antennas' capabilities. Is there a driver or kernel module of some sort that could be removed to 'neuter' the phone? Can the hardware run the antennas without the ROM or kernel's consent?

I've already read about the code to reach a developer menu and 'disable radio' as well as 'airplane mode'. Neither of these fit the bill, I want the phone to be incapable of transmitting cell/gps information.

HTC Droid Eris :: Boosting Poor Cellular Signal ?

Aug 7, 2010

I'm at my friends lake cabin, but the signal here is God awful. Nobody's phone can get a consistent signal, even on 1x. The nearest Verizon tower is a few miles away and it doesn't help that there are hills in the way. Text messages are the most reliable form of communication. But it keeps bouncing between 3g and 1x murdering my battery.

Its not huge deal since I'm doing stuff during the day, but browsing the web would be nice for killing downtime at night.

I would just like some tips on boosting a poor cellular signal. If it helps, we have a cellular booster attached to the TV antenna, and some tin foil.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini/Pro :: Cannot Sync Via Cellular Data (3G / Edge)

Oct 20, 2010

Got my x10 mini pro this week and had to swallow three times as I'd not been exposed to android and expected a SE experience. I got the google sync to work without a problem, internet and facebook updates feeding into the timecape - great. I managed to upload my old phone's contacts onto my newly creates SE account on this website, great. Then on the x10 mini pro, I set up the sync using standard SE button, entered my details of this website, which created a default entry trying to get to sync.sonyericsson.com which I cannot change.

When I try to synchronize, (Internet connection def working), this immediately fails, does not even seem to try to connect to the sync server. Error message appears in the status bar: Could not synchronize: Sony Ericsson (which is the name of the default sync entry). I tried creating a sync entry using the SE portal, finding out the secret username/password. That got exactly the same instant response apparently not even trying.

General :: Huawei Ascend - Play Services Cut Off Cellular Abilities When No Internet

Jan 25, 2014

First off the device is Huawei Ascend G510-0100 running KitKat under the Cyanogenmod platform but the issue was already present with the factory's 4.1 ROM. I thought rooting the phone, installing just brand-new everything and having a bloatware/clutter-free Android OS would rectify all the causes of this nightmare but no. I'm not the only one with this problem: Google-search the issue and you'll find numerous forum threads where users seek for a solution to this "software loophole" as well as one of my friends (Galaxy S2) and another one with the HTC One X+ so I rule out my phone's model, OS version or just my device being faulty from the list of potential causes.

So - every time I turn my WiFi off on purpose or when I go out of my house (where logically my phone looses home's wireless signal) - the location services and the app synchronization processes stumble, mess up, run into and furthermore cause internal system mess-ups from such "unexpected" losts of internet. After that I can't make a phone call, send SMS or run USSD codes (checking credit balance etc) but I can still receive calls and texts - basically I fail to reach my cellular services but the service can still reach me. Turning Airplane Mode on and then off or simply restarting the phone altogether temporary fixes the cellular problem until the next time the internet becomes unreachable to Play Services. I tried turning location and sync off, tried different location/sync options...I wish I could disable Play Services but then I wouldn't be able to use the Play Store - | tried messing around with probably every single option available and possible but the Play Services still failed me and....... (I never use the mobile data btw)
