Got my magic.its nice.Question I have is,how do I know if it it using my wireless connection or using my cellular connection? Obviously at home if I use it, I want it to use my wireless connection and not use my plan from my service provider.

I've just moved house and got a new internet connection. Formerly my Magic was connected to my wireless router and all was well. It still connects to wifi hotspots etc. but it just can't see the new one. Two laptops and one notebook all work, as does my wife's iPhone. I'm not sure where to start looking. View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to use my HTC Magic with my W-LAN-Router (from D-Link, using DHCP).Using the valid WEP - hexadecimal key the HTC Magic tries to retrieve an IP address from the router, but then I always get a failuremessage.I log onto the router with my Macbook and also with my Iphone without any problems. Since there is not much to change about the connectionsettings, I dont know what to try to get the Wireless going.Does anyone have similar experiences or even better suggestions how to solve this problem?

I always run into the same problem though. wired or wireless, i cant get it to connect right. wired never works in any way but i dont really care about that. wireless however shows some signs of working. it shows some data has been sent, not received though. and my computer will detect and connect to it, but seems to lose the signal after a few moments. when i bring up a browser it doesnt even look like something might load. it just says im offline. could someone help me with this?
The other part of this problem is i really just want to connect to my computers ad hoc network and use a wireless keyboard and mouse program. none of them seem that great unfortunately.. recommendations are appreciated. but my biggest issue is that i cant seem to connect to an ad hoc network. i believe my phone detected it only once while i was on the "white widow" rom, but could never quite connect..
I'm doing a research on Cellular-WiFi switch and finding any mechanism to handle cellular hand off.As far as i've found,an http request is routed through WiFi network if connected even gprs/cellular connection is present.
My queries are:
1)Does this switch happens automatically ? If yes,which part of framework or code does that?
2)Does the http request drop in such situation due to cellular hand off ? Is there any way to handle such hand off ?
3)Does gprs cellular connection reconnects automatically when WiFi gets disconnected ?
4)Which type of alerts or notifications normally user gets in such situations ?
Yours feedback and inputs will be of great help for me in this activity.

I would like to hear some feedback on how feasible it is to low-level remove the cell and gps antennas' capabilities. Is there a driver or kernel module of some sort that could be removed to 'neuter' the phone? Can the hardware run the antennas without the ROM or kernel's consent?
I've already read about the code to reach a developer menu and 'disable radio' as well as 'airplane mode'. Neither of these fit the bill, I want the phone to be incapable of transmitting cell/gps information.
I currently just use Aux-In for my car stereo which works fine, but I came across this on Amazon Amazon.com: Clarion BLT370 Bluetooth Audio/Cellular Phone and it seems like it could be very handy. Anyone use one of these with any luck?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm at my friends lake cabin, but the signal here is God awful. Nobody's phone can get a consistent signal, even on 1x. The nearest Verizon tower is a few miles away and it doesn't help that there are hills in the way. Text messages are the most reliable form of communication. But it keeps bouncing between 3g and 1x murdering my battery.
Its not huge deal since I'm doing stuff during the day, but browsing the web would be nice for killing downtime at night.
I would just like some tips on boosting a poor cellular signal. If it helps, we have a cellular booster attached to the TV antenna, and some tin foil.

Sadly, the Android Market in Canada does not have any paid apps. I was just wondering is there any way I can put themes onto my phone? I find that it really sucks that I can't use any of the dxtop themes or openhome themes in the market unless I actually have the app itself (which I cannot purchase).
View 3 Replies View RelatedGot my x10 mini pro this week and had to swallow three times as I'd not been exposed to android and expected a SE experience. I got the google sync to work without a problem, internet and facebook updates feeding into the timecape - great. I managed to upload my old phone's contacts onto my newly creates SE account on this website, great. Then on the x10 mini pro, I set up the sync using standard SE button, entered my details of this website, which created a default entry trying to get to sync.sonyericsson.com which I cannot change.
When I try to synchronize, (Internet connection def working), this immediately fails, does not even seem to try to connect to the sync server. Error message appears in the status bar: Could not synchronize: Sony Ericsson (which is the name of the default sync entry). I tried creating a sync entry using the SE portal, finding out the secret username/password. That got exactly the same instant response apparently not even trying.

Situation: On airplane with in flight wireless. Want to allow wireless, but disallow cellular, including 2g/3g data.
