View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought my HTC Magic yesterday, I already love it (difficult learning to type msm though), but it annoyes my that I can't seem to figure out how to sort my contacts by first name. As it is now they are by last name, and that does not work for me. Can anybody tell me a way to do it, so that I don't have to change each contact manually?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSome of my contacts are first name last, and others are first name first. Is there anyway to show this in Droid X? I can do this in Google and HTC Incredible, but do not know how to do it in DX.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just received the OTA Android 2.2 upgrade. It's mentioned on the web that one of the improvements is the ability to sort contacts by first or last name. But I cannot seem to find this option as described here

There is no "Display Options" button. Does anybody have this?
I am very new to this android stuff. I used to have the iphone, but decided to switch over. Now, I have a very newbie question. How do you sort the contacts to "Last Name" first rather than "First Name" first?
View 13 Replies View RelatedSupposedly with Froyo there is the option to sort contacts by last name. However I do not see any way to do this on the Droid 2. Has anyone been able to do this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn win for mobile is it possible to sort your contacts by company name in the same way as in Outlook. I use HTC Desire in my work and I have 1200 contacts. It is impossible to remember all names, but I remember the company name. It would be a nice feature in Android.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSays it all in the title really. None of my contacts can be viewed when I create a new sms message, it just repeats one name over and over and over again. The only way I'm managing to message people at the moment is by using old messages and replying.
View 1 Replies View RelatedVery odd, but on Saturday, my phone game me the "almost out of space" icon on the top of the screen. I checked which apps were hogging the most space, and Contacts Storage was number one at 27 megabytes, twice the amount that it typically sits at.
So I turned of all of my syncs, deleted my contacts, and went back into my syncs to enable them all again, but then I noticed that Facebook was listed twice. I'm assuming this was because of the new Facebook update.
Did this happen to anyone else? Any theories?
There were some valid complaints in 1.5 that you could only see your contacts sorted by first name. The only way around this was to re-enter all the info - backwards. (Smith John instead of John Smith)
I just noticed in 2.1 that in contact "Edit" mode if you tap the name field, there is a drop-down to select the "display name" (either firstname lastname or lastname firstname).
i was trying to download enhlish-japanese dictionary and all kind of things but my phone just cant read the japanese scripts and i realy need it. what can i do to make my milestone read those words....its not enough to use just the romaji system.
View 13 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to be able to add Jabber/AIM/ICQ/whatever info to people in my contact list?
For some reason, this works when filling "My contact card" (clicking "Add" then "IM", expands several choices like AIM, Windows Live, Yahoo, Skype etc.), but doesn't for other contacts (the "IM" seems to expand, but is empty). I can only add generic "IM" entries for those.
I'm tring to create SMTP-POP3 mailer application on Android. Then I came across a problem when I display e-mail written in Japanease.
The subject and body string which is correctly decode (Base64 ,QP, JIS -> UTF8) cannot display on TextView.
Are there any way which I should do to display Japanese on TextView?
Can anyone tell me how to change the Language & Keyboard start-up settings?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm new to Android development and have just started playing with the SDK.
One thing that is annoying is that the emulator always start with Japanese settings. I have found out how to fix this by going into settings and remove all the Japanese stuff, but this is time consuming since I have to do it every time I start the emulator.
Can someone help me change the startup settings for the emulator?
I was wondering if there was a way to add Japanese as an language input for the Android keyboard? By default, there is no option to add Japanese as a llanguage input, and all other keyboards that have it are either ugly, don't have ICS as an optional theme or just too much, I prefer the stock Android keyboard on ICS over anything else and I'm sure there are some of you that agree. It would be nice to have this and other possible languages as optional languages on this keyboard.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI decided I wanted to delete my gmail account on my Droid Eris and add my primary gmail account. ex. went into managae apps and cleared data for account1 @gmail .com, then I reset up my phone with account2 @gmail.com. I just realized by clearing data, I deleted all of my contacts off of my phone. Luckily I went online and checked account1@gmail.com to see that all of my contacts were still there. How do I get them back onto my phone? Do I need to transfer the contacts from this account to account2@gmail.com? And how do I transfer them? Simply, how do I get my contacts into account2, my primary gmail account on my droid eris, and also back onto the phone?
View 4 Replies View RelatedUpdated my X10 abou 3days ago to Android 2.1 and ever since I can not display the Japanes keyboard. I have set location as Japanese but the standard keyboard option does not give me Japanese option for input language. I can read and browse Japanse without problem but when I create message, or simply reply e-mails /Text, I can not input any Japansese. It was working find before the update. Does anybody have a clue??
View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently the keyboard I used to use, GO Keyboard, added notification adds for porn apps in their latest update. It was a great keyboard; fast, accurate, and had a one-touch switch to go to Japanese text entry.
I am so indignant about their bait-and-switch BS though that I refuse to use any apps by that company any more. I tried the trial of smart keyboard but I don't like how it misses letters when typing fast.

I don't yet have my shiny new X10, but it should be with me in a few days. In anticipation of its arrival, I wonder whether it is possible to read and write Japanese on the phone? I'd like to add an English-Japanese dictionary, and hope that I'll be able to read the Japanese entries.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI removed Chinese and Korean keyboards, but I can't find the entry for the Japanese one.
Any one know what it's called? or is it system integrated?
I bought Xperia X2 in Malaysia last month. I'm having problems to view Chinese and Japanese characters for SMS, e-mail or websites. I really need to type Chinese and Japanese and found that there's no such input method. However, I can view my SMS and mails in other languages through side panels. Is this a big mistake?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWent to send a text this morning from Handcent and noticed that my keyboard had changed a bit. The enter key and the key the farthest on the bottom left both have Japanese characters on them. Also, the key to add a question mark/exclamation mark is not on the board now. I thought it might just be Handcent, so I tried the stock messaging program and the keyboard has the same problem!
View 4 Replies View RelatedAndroid 4.1 has a better glyph support for Japanese users (renders Japanese-specific versions of glyphs WHEN system language is set to Japanese).
I use a lot Japanese (reading / writing) and what see when system language is NOT set to Japanese is the Chinese glyphs characters instead of Japanese ones. Often those are the same as the Japanese glyph but in some cases they are not.
But if I set the system language to Japanese the glyphs are the good ones. So, it's not so convenient to set system language to Japanese every time I need to read or write in Japanese !
It looks to be done with a fallback fonts list that gets switched with the UI locale. Inside of /system/etc/ there are two XML files: fallback_fonts and fallback_fonts-ja. In the ja one the order of MTLmr3m.ttf font is placed before DroidSansFallback.ttf. The MTLmr3m.ttf file is the Motoya Japanese font and the DroidSansFallback.ttf is the fallback font that has the simplified Chinese glyphs.
The fix to allow Japanese instead of Simplified Chinese with a non-Japanese UI would be to copy the fallback_fonts-ja file to fallback_fonts. Before doing that it would be a good idea to copy fallback_fonts to something else like fallback_fonts.backup so that you could restore it later. However, before doing any of this you would also need to root your device since the /system directory can't be edited otherwise.
This is what I found [URL] ... and what I done. I even tried to edit the fallback_fonts file to put MTLmr3m.ttf font before DroidSansFallback.ttf. But in any case, once I reboot my Nexus 7, the Japanese font are not read anymore (juste leaving blank).
Any solution to use the MTLmr3m.ttf file (Japanese font) instead of DroidSansFallback.ttf without setting the system language to Japanese ?
