Donut

If there's not a definite answer that's cool too. I was just kinda curious.

One of our Verizon Wireless sources has dropped a whole bunch of info in our laps. Were talking intimate details of Verizon Wireless plans for the rest of 2010, 2011 and even some 2012 plans. Android tablets, LTE MiFi units, Android 3.0, video conferencing, and a whole lot more. Read on for the full details! In addition to the Motorola DROID and Motorola DROID X, weï told Motorola will launch a new DROID handset, the Motorola DROID Pro. It is supposed to have a 1.3GHz CPU, 4 screen and global roaming capabilities. Estimated launch of November 2010, Motorola is working with Verizon on alab form- device that sort of looks like an old Motorola Q but features a full touchscreen and global roaming. It will run Android 2.2. Maybe this will be a lower cost, MOTOBLUR handset? There are a lot more Android invasions happening before the end of the year, we told. This includes a global Android device from both Samsung and HTC.Samsung is working on a 7 screen Android tablet with front-facing camera. Motorola is also working on a tablet as well, except it will sport a 10 screen, either 1GHz or 1.3GHz CPU, front-facing camera, and Android 3.0. Don expect the Motorola so soon though, as informed that while the launch was supposed to happen in December, Android 3.0 will probably hold up the release of that device and we should expect it around February 2011. Verizon Wireless is aiming and on track to have at least 75% of the country covered in LTE coverage by April 2012 There will be a Novatel LTE MiFi device available in January or February that will apparently support up to 10 simultaneous Wi-Fi users. Lastly, we told LTE data pricing will stick at month, though it unclear what the data allowance will be. (This is for data cards, not smart phones) Regardless of whether an iPhone comes to Verizon Wireless anytime soon, it obviously clear they are not slowing down with their huge Android push. With LTE coming up, and a major stable of high-performance smart phones, it seems like Verizon has positioned themselves to win. We see how the end of the year and 2011 shape up before making any concrete judgments, though. Did we get anyone excited?

The calender sync feature puts in all future events but no past ones. This happens on both exchange and google calenders. The synch does not eliminate the past events on the exchange server on on my laptop google calender. My blackberry had a setting for this. I can not find a similar setting which allows me to retain the past events on the Droid.

In my Prius's GPS, I can save the location of where the car has been, and use that for future navigation need. In Droid, I don't exactly see a way of saving the current location into something like a contact so I can come back in the future. And there's no street address (inside a vast private property), so that's not going to work either.

I just got the Motorola Droid a month ago and I cant help but think that soon if not already the processor inside it will be obsolete and start to not be strong enough for future apps/games and/or Android updates. What do you guys think?

I was running stock 2.1 on my Droid and I recently rooted it using the instructions here: How-To Root your stock 2.1 Droid. It went off without a hitch. Then, I went to Froyo 2.2, as found here: Download: Newer Motorola Droid Froyo Leak FRF57 | Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog.
After switching to Froyo, it appeared that I was having some issues with my root. I still had the superuser ninja, and I could still use Terminal Emulator. When I opened upTitanium Backup though, it asked me to allow permission which I did, and then it told me that I was not rooted (Setup behaved similarly). So I went and applied the update patch available on the Droid-Life page where I got Froyo and it appeared to work. To my knowledge I AM rooted. I have a custom boot animation and Titanium and Setcpu are working fine. Titanium says my root access is ok and that I am using busybox 1.15.3 from app. All is well, EXCEPT that when I try to use the cp command via terminal emulator I cannot. I recently tried to add a custom boot animation using the following:
su
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /Dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cp /sdcard/bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip
mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
exit
After the first line of code I got:usage: mount [-r] [-w] [-o options] [-type] device directory
After the second line however I got the error cp not found. HOWEVER, I was able to apply the boot animation using root explorer. Also, i tested the command busybox and got busybox not found. I can still utilize cd /system app though.
Basically I need to know if I am only partially rooted. I am having a ball with this phone and I would hate to be unable to do some future root process because of a glitch now.

looking for some educated feedback on this, is the droid really better in terms of power than the eris? i returned the eris because i thought it was too slow and didn't stack up to what the droid is, but was i wrong?
i look at the verizonwireless website and they have the same stats, except for the keyboard of course. but then i hear some htc users say that the eris is just as powerful as the droid and can do everything that the droid can in terms of performance. on the other hand i get people telling me that the droid is the 'powerhouse' and ive read that the droid is the 'high-end' phone. people have told me about better cpu/processor/memory - is this true and is it noticeable? and will it effect the phones longevity compared to the eris for the future? i heard that it will as more updates comes out... someone told me that the eris will never be up to par with the droid hardware wise and that the droid is the safe bet if you want the most from future updates ... also read that the eris will be 'long in the tooth' (old) faster.

Does anyone know if there is a way to edit previous searches on android phones without the trackpad/d-pad. If you pull up a previous search in the quick search box, you have the option to select it. Once you select it, it will immediately begin searching but it will not give you the option to edit your previous search parameters? Any workarounds?

I am having trouble committing to my svn repository changes made in files in my Android project in folders that have a hyphen in the name.
In particular /res/layout and /res/layout-land.
It *seems* that the svn client doesn't like the hyphen and truncates that segment of the url after the hyphen, thus mapping /layout and / layout-land onto the same url...
Problems include:- - can't check in two files of same name, one each in /layout and / layout-land as "they refer to the same URL" - can't delete/add files from hyphenated folder as they "don't exist"/"already exist" - I suspect a commit from the hyphenated folder is overwriting the file in the non-hyphenated folder in the repository.
I have tried to avoid the problem using the subeclipse plug-in for svn I normally use, from the svn command line (on Windows 7) and with Tortoise SVN, without success.
Does anyone know of a workaround?
Is there anyway to avoid hyphens in these folder names?

With being a wireless industry professional for 15 years now, I have come across many different types of devices, OS's, just about it all.I wanted to love Windows mobile couldnt take the constant crashing.I wanted to love the Palm 650 well, I wont even go into that.I gave Symbian (Nokia E61) about a minute with good intentions before I was bored.I loved my BlackBerry for years feel like they are old school now.I would never use AT&T again, so the iPhone is out love my iPod Touch though.Having just gotten my first Android device, I can honestly say that while I am very impressed with the OS and its capabilities, I long to understand some of the things left out of ANY of these operating systems.

I entered in my gmail information to my new droid and it sync'd with my contacts on gmail, all 5 of them, 'deleting' my previous contacts. I say 'deleting' loosely because when I look through my contacts none are there, however if someone sends me a text it has them saved with their number. Is there a way to restore/retrieve my contacts?

I don't understand this. When you hit the back button after following a link, you go back to the previous page, but not where you left off. The browser seems to just throw you somewhere near the top of the page. Is there a settings fix for this, or is it just how it works?

When shopping online or checking into a flight online. I like to be able to save the receipt screen (or boarding pass screen) to a pdf, so I can easily access it later or print it off. This is easy to do on a laptop with cute pdf or similar. Is there any way to "print to pdf" on an android phone? Or to put it in other words, is there any way to save a webpage as a pdf, so it can be opened again later (and look exactly the same)?

Samsung has stated that Android is their focus point in the near future. Bada is their own platform and it would also remain with same priority for Samsung who is the South Korean tech giant. There is good demand for Android in the market with it being the second most popular mobile platform in the US market right now. This might have made the company think to shift their attention to Android.

so I wanted to get an Evo, but then I saw all these graphic tests and found The EPIC to have amazing GPU. Now I really like the evo for htc sense, bigger screen and looks. But I want the epic for its GPU. I dont care much for the keyboard. Im afraid the GPU on evo will be outdated and not run games anymore. Im afraid cuz my cousin got a Moment and he cant run any of the good 3d games, i got my pre before him and I can run better 3d games then him.Should I get the epic just for the GPU? Do you guys even see android gaming taking off and using the epic's internals or will the GPU of EVO(Adreno 200) be fine for current and future android games. As I see it, most devs are using the N1 to develop on, so im guessing the GPU in the evo should be fine right? or should I be safe and get the Epic GPU and be able to use the keyboard for gaming, but not be satisfied by looks? (maybe when i use it in person ill fine in love with the looks lol)SHORT VERSION Should i get the EVO and not be worried about highend 3d games sucking/being laggy? Is the GPU on the Evo good enough because it is the current standard for 3d games? Dont most developers develop on n1, thus the Evo gpu will be perfect? Also I think A lot of developers are optimizing games for the snapdragons. is any of this true?

From the posting so far I have seen, the current emulator as of API level 8 and Platform 2.2 does not support OpenGL ES 2.0. (Only in the emulator that the support is not there)
(The support is there at API level 8 for the ES 2.0)
wondering if any jone has figured out the following
1. Will the emulator support ES 2.0 in the future (considering there is compilers, shaders etc needed to support es 2.0) 2. What is a likely timeframe this may be available? (months or sometime future?)
I suppose considering that iPhone SDK has the emulator suppor for es 2.0, it can be anticipated on the Android emulator as well.
