Motorola Droid : Performance Effect Phones Longevity Compared To Eris For Future?

Jan 3, 2010

looking for some educated feedback on this, is the droid really better in terms of power than the eris? i returned the eris because i thought it was too slow and didn't stack up to what the droid is, but was i wrong?

i look at the verizonwireless website and they have the same stats, except for the keyboard of course. but then i hear some htc users say that the eris is just as powerful as the droid and can do everything that the droid can in terms of performance. on the other hand i get people telling me that the droid is the 'powerhouse' and ive read that the droid is the 'high-end' phone. people have told me about better cpu/processor/memory - is this true and is it noticeable? and will it effect the phones longevity compared to the eris for the future? i heard that it will as more updates comes out... someone told me that the eris will never be up to par with the droid hardware wise and that the droid is the safe bet if you want the most from future updates ... also read that the eris will be 'long in the tooth' (old) faster.

HTC Incredible :: Screen Longevity On Phones?

Jun 10, 2010

So, i have been doing some reading, but cannot find any solid answers that really pertain to us. Right now, our phone's screens are beautiful, but i am wondering how long we can expect them to stay that way. In regards to #1, it is a worry given how static some of the things on our screens are, like the top right chunks of the notification bar. The 3G icon, signal bars, and time (especially AM/PM) don't change that much, and seem like a good candidate for burn-in. In reading, i think i even found a few people that said the "M" in AM/PM was already burning in. Short of rooting, is there anything that can change the bar to help it avoid burn in? In regards to two, i know that the AMOLED pixels will fade over time, especially blue first. Is there any documentation on just how long these Sammy OLED's will actually last?

Sprint HTC : Speed Of Hero Compared To Other Android Phones

Mar 4, 2010

Ok, my question here is about the speed in which the Androids operate. I have a HTC Hero, I have it rooted and running the Fresh 1.1 ROM and the more I play with it, the more I don't like it. I work at a Verizon franchise and get to play with the Moto Droid all day and it is amazing at how much quicker it is. So, what I am asking is, is there antother DROID powered device besides the Nexus One that puts out similar speeds? And is there one for Sprint that is coming out soon or rumored to be atleast?

HTC Droid Eris :: Verizon's Future Projects

Aug 9, 2010

One of our Verizon Wireless sources has dropped a whole bunch of info in our laps. We´┐Żre talking intimate details of Verizon Wireless plans for the rest of 2010, 2011 and even some 2012 plans. Android tablets, LTE MiFi units, Android 3.0, video conferencing, and a whole lot more. Read on for the full details! In addition to the Motorola DROID and Motorola DROID X, we´ told Motorola will launch a new DROID handset, the Motorola DROID Pro. It is supposed to have a 1.3GHz CPU, 4 screen and global roaming capabilities. Estimated launch of November 2010, Motorola is working with Verizon on alab form- device that sort of looks like an old Motorola Q but features a full touchscreen and global roaming. It will run Android 2.2. Maybe this will be a lower cost, MOTOBLUR handset? There are a lot more Android invasions happening before the end of the year, we told. This includes a global Android device from both Samsung and HTC.Samsung is working on a 7 screen Android tablet with front-facing camera. Motorola is also working on a tablet as well, except it will sport a 10 screen, either 1GHz or 1.3GHz CPU, front-facing camera, and Android 3.0. Don expect the Motorola so soon though, as informed that while the launch was supposed to happen in December, Android 3.0 will probably hold up the release of that device and we should expect it around February 2011. Verizon Wireless is aiming and on track to have at least 75% of the country covered in LTE coverage by April 2012 There will be a Novatel LTE MiFi device available in January or February that will apparently support up to 10 simultaneous Wi-Fi users. Lastly, we told LTE data pricing will stick at month, though it unclear what the data allowance will be. (This is for data cards, not smart phones) Regardless of whether an iPhone comes to Verizon Wireless anytime soon, it obviously clear they are not slowing down with their huge Android push. With LTE coming up, and a major stable of high-performance smart phones, it seems like Verizon has positioned themselves to win. We see how the end of the year and 2011 shape up before making any concrete judgments, though. Did we get anyone excited?

Motorola Droid :: Poor Signal Quality Compared To LG Phone

Nov 29, 2009

I have had my droid for 21 days now. The first week I was frustrated because I could not use my "backup assistant" which I have used for a long time to transfer my contacts. ( im sure they will come up with an "app" for that soon, and it works very differently than my old LG. Once I worked through the basics of using the phone I started to notice I have very poor reception at my home. (This is really bugging me because my husband has the FREE LG flip phone and has perfect service everywhere in the house) I buy the best and he gets the free phone and he talks anywhere but I have to go out on the back porch or stand by the back door with my head against the window in order to talk to somehone. Part of me really wants to return it for that reason alone, but I love the other features of the phone and don't know if I want to give them up. Has anyone else had issues with poor signal quality>

Motorola Droid : Unable To Do Some Future Root Process Because Of A Glitch Now

Jun 19, 2010

I was running stock 2.1 on my Droid and I recently rooted it using the instructions here: How-To Root your stock 2.1 Droid. It went off without a hitch. Then, I went to Froyo 2.2, as found here: Download: Newer Motorola Droid Froyo Leak FRF57 | Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog.

After switching to Froyo, it appeared that I was having some issues with my root. I still had the superuser ninja, and I could still use Terminal Emulator. When I opened upTitanium Backup though, it asked me to allow permission which I did, and then it told me that I was not rooted (Setup behaved similarly). So I went and applied the update patch available on the Droid-Life page where I got Froyo and it appeared to work. To my knowledge I AM rooted. I have a custom boot animation and Titanium and Setcpu are working fine. Titanium says my root access is ok and that I am using busybox 1.15.3 from app. All is well, EXCEPT that when I try to use the cp command via terminal emulator I cannot. I recently tried to add a custom boot animation using the following:

su
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /Dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cp /sdcard/bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip
mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
exit

After the first line of code I got:usage: mount [-r] [-w] [-o options] [-type] device directory

After the second line however I got the error cp not found. HOWEVER, I was able to apply the boot animation using root explorer. Also, i tested the command busybox and got busybox not found. I can still utilize cd /system app though.

Basically I need to know if I am only partially rooted. I am having a ball with this phone and I would hate to be unable to do some future root process because of a glitch now.

HTC Droid Eris :: Will Android 2.0/2.1 Improve Performance?

Dec 3, 2009

Will Android 2.0/2.1 improve performance? The Eris is a cool phone and all but it simply cant keep up with me. There is nothing wrong with my phone also. I have rebooted it and have 80mb free memory. Same thing at Verizon store display phone. It just cant keep up and the lag and waiting periods (1 second or so) are annoying me. Yes one second is alot of lag time when you are trying to do things. It sounds like "only one second" but there are 100 of these one second lag times all over the phone. Im not even an "expert" or "hardcore" user.

Anyon know if Android 2.0 will run faster? Playing a simple MP3 while trying to navigate the phone increases the lag times. Why dosnt the older iphone 3g have these lag issues when they both have equal CPUs?

When will Google and HTC aknowledge the MAJOR issue with the ENTIRE phone slowing down the a crawl once available RAM goes under 30mb. (common with all Android phones) Is it SO hard to have the ability to shutdown apps and automatically remove them from ram when Im done using them? This is the same stupidity Windows Mobile went through back in 2003. Yes I understand that Android will remove unused apps from RAM to make room for the next one but this is where the lag is coming from. The entire phone slows to a crawl unless you free up some memory with 3rd party apps.
