I entered in my gmail information to my new droid and it sync'd with my contacts on gmail, all 5 of them, 'deleting' my previous contacts. I say 'deleting' loosely because when I look through my contacts none are there, however if someone sends me a text it has them saved with their number. Is there a way to restore/retrieve my contacts?

just started 2 days ago, everything but my gmail contacts will sync. it's so bad that the battery dies in a matter of hours due to the constant sync. I turned off auto sync until somebody fixes this. just wondered if I am the only one
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been reading up on the concept of push email, and how it's supposed to be a huge battery saver (since in theory, the phone would only receive a notification of an e-mail, and not the actual e-mail itself). I have also been reading up on how the "Gmail" app's version of Push email is not the same as other Push e-mail software, in that it requires the phone to "Sync" whenever an e-mail hits the Gmail server. As a result, whenever I would try to turn Auto Sync off (supposedly to save battery), I would no longer be able to get my e-mail notifications in real time.
With this in mind, I attempted to find another application that would enable me to use Push email for my Gmail account, without having to "Sync" with Gmail's server. After messing around for a bit, I found that I could manually input my Gmail account info (Incoming Server, Outgoing Server, Username, Pass, Etc.) into the stock "Email" app that comes with the X. Once this was done, I was able to enable "Data Push" in the "Email" app's Settings menu (as well turning off any Polling intervals). By doing this, I was able to receive new Gmail notifications through the "E-mail" app, even when Auto Sync had been turned off. As a bonus, I received them around 15 seconds faster than I did with the "Gmail" app's version of Push.....
My girfriend just got the Eris and it synced contacts from her gmail, into her phone contacts. Was nice becase they couldent sync the contacs on her broken phone. Can droid do the same thing? Also it let her sync her contacts with facebook profile. This put the facebook picture next to the contact, and found birtday for the calander. IS this somthing that droid can do?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Motorola Droid X. I am trying to sync my contacts with my phone. Everything works fine until I try to add a new group (personal, work, etc). As long as the contacts are in my contacts everything syncs fine. when I put contacts in those groups that I created they never show up on my phone. Is there a setting I am missing? In gmail or phone.

View 1 Replies View RelatedCurrently if I add/modify a contact in gmail it will sync without issue to my phone But if I happen to add a contact onto my phone or change something on my phone, that contact is not being synced to my gmail contacts (it stays on the phone, just doesn't go into gmail as well). Thoughts? I currently only sync 'My Contacts' from gmail to my phone not sure if this matters or not. I don't see an option to sync the other way as I did when using Google Sync on my blackberry.
View 6 Replies View RelatedOk, there is literally no way that I'm the only one who has asked this question but I can't find the answer by searching. Here's my problem, after I flash my rom and restart my phone the market begins auto-downloading all the apps I previously had installed. I do not want this bc I use titanium backup for all of that.
I know I can avoid it temporarily if I skip entering my email address, but there has to be a setting for me to un check that will make it not try to auto download anything once I do add my account.
I'm sure you guys have all run into this by now, so can someone please tell me what setting will resolve this issue?
For some reason whenever I send an email or reply to an email it automatically adds the email address to my contacts folder. Not sure what's going on, could someone assist?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently called someone and wanted to add them to my contact list. In call history, I clicked the little file picture and added their name, saved it as a google contact, and saved it. If I go to People, the name doesnt appear. So I went to the People app, entered their info, made it a google contact, saved. Still didnt work. Even manually synced my google account. So then I changed the "view" to show every option and slowly ticked off each box til I realized that only if "show auto gmail contacts" is ON does my new contact appear. It was also "linked" to 3 other contacts (the same one that I kept adding over and over wondering why it wasnt appearing). So, of course I do NOT want everyone I've ever e-mailed in my contact list, so the question is, how can I add/save any contacts and make them appear in People?

So, on my laptop, logged into Gmail (and the new WAY BETTER contacts section), I deleted about 900 contacts from the list. However, they seem to still be on my Dinc where I don't want to see them. Any thoughts on how to make sure the contacts in my Gmail account are the only ones that appear on my phone?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI purchased a Droid 2 days ago and had the guy at the Verizon store import both the numbers from my old LG phone and also sync it with my gmail account. I never managed by Gmail Contacts so obviously I had a bunch of random people in there that I would never want to call. I figured the best way to do this would be to manage my GMail contacts and then synch it with the updated list. Unfortunately I accidentally deleted all of my Gmail contacts.
At the moment, however, I still have over 900 contacts in my phone? I'm not sure where they are from because Gmail is still supposed to be synching with my phone. Is there a way I can export what I have on my phone to my Gmail account and start over? Is there an app that can help me manage my contacts on my Droid?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've tried posting this on other threads but have gotten no replies. Forgive me for starting a new one. I haven't synced my contacts to Gmail since January because I found the way it would garble them all up annoying. But I got the OTA on my phone & wanted to make sure they're backed up before I go ahead w/the installation. Problem is, it has been acting like it's syncing for over 12 hours now & all it's doing is draining my battery. It still shows that it hasn't been synced since January. Also, periodically during the sync attempts, the "too many contacts deletes" notification pops up. I always tell it to delete everything. And it's odd that one time it'll say 505 deletes & the next time it'll say 502 deletes & it keeps getting less. I don't get it. need to back up my contacts before I install 2.1 right?

But because it's not device-specific and, in a way, "sync" can be considered an app, i thought here would be my best bet. I've got a huge problem: Ever since I got my Magic, and because I didn't like the feature very much, I had the "sync contacts" option to off. I manually entered all the phone numbers & email I had, and was fine with it. Then, today, I thought "oh, wth, i'll turn contact sync so that my gmail will also have my phone numbers and they'll be safe". little did I know. For some inexplicable reason, when synchronizing ended, my phone had downloaded all my google contacts BUT it had completely wiped out my existing phone contacts. At the "view" option in contacts, under the "phone" contacts it shows 0, and it does not recognise my call log or my sms list as sent by known numbers. Oh, and my phone contacts (neither the ones I had before sync, nor the couple I just entered after all this) do NOT show up in my google contacts AT ALL. Is there any way at all to undo this? I want my phone contacts back!Also, is this some sort of bug or error or does sync reallly wipe out all your phone contacts? if so, WHY THE HELL does it do that? I thought synch would be upload phone contacts to gmail, download gmail contacts to phone, keep all of htem in both places. isn't that the point? Why did this happen? I'm pretty sure it never asked me if I wanted to keep my phone contacts or anything.

I've searched through this forum but can't seem to find anyone else reporting this.I've had a G2 for approx 3 weeks now, however, the thing just won't sync Gmail as it should - either via Auto-sync or by manually trying. I've had a G1 for the last 12 months so feel experienced enough to know when something's not quite right. I am using the G2 in exactly the same locations as the G1 so it cannot be a reception issue. I've tried sending test emails from my work email address to my Gmail account: Out of the 10 test emails sent over the space of 8 hours, only 2 came through (the G2 was on Auto-Sync the whole time). The others eventually came through via a combination of manually instigating Sync (1 success) or, in most cases, having to switch the phone off and on - even this only worked twice. Whenever I sent emails from work to G1 they would appear on the phone instantly. There isn't a prob with the emails leaving my work domain as I can see that they have all been delivered successfully viewing my Gmail account over the web. If I leave the phone on the Data Synchronization screen, the round sync indicator is constantly running next to "Google Mail" and intermittantly pauses with the error message that "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shorlty". have also found that the reception doesn't appear to be as good as the G1 - I work in central London and live 10 miles south of the river.I'm running FW 1.5 Kernal 2.6.27-a5504199 Software 1.0.0.A6288

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Verizon Galaxy S3 with Cleanrom Seven installed stopped automatically syncing my gmail. I can manually refresh my mail, but it does not sync automatically despite the sync being enabled. I've also wiped data, removed my google account, and even done a factory reset without restoring any google data...and although it occasionally works temporarily, it always stops working. If a factory reset won't fix it, I don't know what to do anymore.

However, if I create a new contact (setting it as a Google contact), then when it syncs with Google, rather than creating the contact in my GMail account it wipes the contact from my phone.I can't be the only person experiencing this, is there a solution?
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust today I have started having a strange issue with Gmail on my Droid. If I delete a message from my phone, it appears to delete OK, and disappears from the phone. If I go to the computer and log in, however, the message will still be there, no matter how long I wait. This is causing my Gmail counter widget I have installed on the phone to show an incorrect number, as it is counting the messages on the server, not the phone. No matter how many times I try to resync Gmail, once I delete a message from my phone, it will not show back up on the phone, but will remain on the server until I log into a computer & delete them from there.

1. I create a new contact on my phone and select my googlemail.com when asked "create contact under account"?
2. I save the newly added contact details
3. I then synchronise the phone
4. The newly created account gets deleted from the phone.
For clarification I'm not saving it to the SIM nor to the phone memory, just to my googlemail account.I've read elsewhere that there might be a problem since google added gmail.com accounts in the UK. I now have 2 google accounts (gmail and googlemail) but in practice both seem identical, if I try to sign in to my googlemail account I end up in my gmail account so I doubt if this is the issue. I've tried deleting my googlemail account from my phone with the intention of replacing it with my new gmail account but I get the message that other applications rely on this account and that the only way to remove the account is to do a factory reset. If I create contacts in my gmail account off-line and synchronise my phone then these contacts appear on my phone as expected. It seems strange that this application should delete a newly added contact on the phone but that is exactly what happens. I know I'm not the only one whose experienced this but I've never seen a conclusive resolution, anyone here know how to solve this?
