Cant really say I am surprised but the phone is only 8 months old, glad I got the Evo. Looks like you will need to root to see 2.2 on the Hero.

View 49 Replies View RelatedI have a phone that makes calls, I can multitask, and with 2.1 - it works even better now. And the battery life has only improved since I've bought it. It's kind of hard to ignore the fact that the day 2.1 is officially released for the HTC Sprint Hero - is the same day that 2.2 is "unveiled." The one thing I really wanted was the ability to launch apps from my SD card without having to root. I think I'll just root 2.1 once that happens. But do any other Hero owners feel a tad bit messed?

View 1 Replies View Relatedafter installing 2.2 on my hero, everything was working fine, until now. im having problems with my text messages, they wont send under sprints network, if i put it in roaming then they send right away, but roaming has awefully slow (1x) network speeds, but if i put it back to the 3g network speeds of sprint then everytime i try to send a text it just swirls in circles (the little thing next to the message) and wont send. is this sprints network being down? or does this have to do with the 2.2 update?i dont think its sprint because my mom and sister arent having any problems with there phones from the same plan. but i tryed restarting many times, taking out and leaving out the battery, putting it in airplane mode and turning that back off to reset connection, iv tryed everything and cant get it to work, so idk what to do, and i dont understand why if it was a software problem with the 2.2 installation, why would they send in roaming but not on sprints network?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'll number these questions to make answering easier. 1) I'm only looking at GSM phones, I'm thinking about buying the hero on ebay next week. I'm wondering if I should wait for the GSM moto droid or a GSM htc passion. Or just get the hero now. The benifits of waiting for me personally is faster hardware, and better screen/resolution. The downfalls of waiting is I could be waiting a long time for a GSM version of those phones. 2) The biggest thing that concerns me is about buying the hero is performance. I have a iphone 2g and what pisses me off about it is the performance, and that it has no multitasking. If I get the hero I don't want the performance to bother me. I have no issues if I need taskiller to close a few apps every now and then to keep the performance good. I'd like to know if performance is a real problem, or just a minor annoyance. 3) Is the "jump to letter" feature in the music player? for example can I jump to the music artists that begin with Y, instead of scrolling from the top all the way down? 4) Is there a button to show your currently running apps? or your most recent apps? If so, which is it? running or recent? Can you launch apps from that screen? 5) Is the warranty on the European GSM hero valid in the United States? Is the warranty card that comes with the phone used for anything? do you need it to have a warranty on your phone? What does it say on it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWith being a wireless industry professional for 15 years now, I have come across many different types of devices, OS's, just about it all.I wanted to love Windows mobile couldnt take the constant crashing.I wanted to love the Palm 650 well, I wont even go into that.I gave Symbian (Nokia E61) about a minute with good intentions before I was bored.I loved my BlackBerry for years feel like they are old school now.I would never use AT&T again, so the iPhone is out love my iPod Touch though.Having just gotten my first Android device, I can honestly say that while I am very impressed with the OS and its capabilities, I long to understand some of the things left out of ANY of these operating systems.

iv heard ppl who downloaded android 2.2 online and installed it themselves on there phone since its not being offered ota. but im wondering if its safe? the phone is not actually getting 2.2 ever, so doing this would be my own choice. but im wondering if it will run smoothly, better than 2.1 update 1, and if there will be any problems or if anything that may not work because of compatability problems with the phone. because some people have said that 2.2 isnt being released to the hero because the phone is not physically capeable of it do to software and hardware (such as space ram speeds etc.), and others have said they installed it themselves and it works fine, that its actually made to run using less space then 2.1 making it better.

The only tome I had any frustrations was getting the clips unhooked also removing the cracked piece from the super strong adhesive. I think because its a HTC phone it is made with the black bar, but is their anyway to extract the APK from any other android phone if such a file exists and just install it on the Hero, I really prefer the white one.

If I happen to be in front of the phone, I can see the screen change showing an incoming call.If I am listening to Pandora Radio, when the phone rings, Pandora stops, but the phone never rings.If I am not near or looking at the phone this results in missing the call.If I shut off the phone and re-boot it appears to ring fine, but at some point later in the day or week it will quit ringing.I normally never turn off the phone. Should I start to re-boot every day?

I like to be able to save the receipt screen (or boarding pass screen) to a pdf, so I can easily access it later or print it off. This is easy to do on a laptop with cute pdf or similar. Is there any way to "print to pdf" on an android phone? Or to put it in other words, is there any way to save a webpage as a pdf, so it can be opened again later (and look exactly the same)?

View 3 Replies View Relatedso I wanted to get an Evo, but then I saw all these graphic tests and found The EPIC to have amazing GPU. Now I really like the evo for htc sense, bigger screen and looks. But I want the epic for its GPU. I dont care much for the keyboard. Im afraid the GPU on evo will be outdated and not run games anymore. Im afraid cuz my cousin got a Moment and he cant run any of the good 3d games, i got my pre before him and I can run better 3d games then him.Should I get the epic just for the GPU? Do you guys even see android gaming taking off and using the epic's internals or will the GPU of EVO(Adreno 200) be fine for current and future android games. As I see it, most devs are using the N1 to develop on, so im guessing the GPU in the evo should be fine right? or should I be safe and get the Epic GPU and be able to use the keyboard for gaming, but not be satisfied by looks? (maybe when i use it in person ill fine in love with the looks lol)SHORT VERSION Should i get the EVO and not be worried about highend 3d games sucking/being laggy? Is the GPU on the Evo good enough because it is the current standard for 3d games? Dont most developers develop on n1, thus the Evo gpu will be perfect? Also I think A lot of developers are optimizing games for the snapdragons. is any of this true?

wondering if any jone has figured out the following
1. Will the emulator support ES 2.0 in the future (considering there is compilers, shaders etc needed to support es 2.0) 2. What is a likely timeframe this may be available? (months or sometime future?)
I suppose considering that iPhone SDK has the emulator suppor for es 2.0, it can be anticipated on the Android emulator as well.

i've tried out all the radios to test out which is the best for me..and i devided on the one that was based off the verizon radio..so i got an error message saying "You must be a Sprint Customer to use this feature" so i changed to the newest radio out 2.42.01.04.27 and i still get the same issue..what could it be?

The size of each square (both height and width) is phone_pixel_width/number_of_squares to maximize the size of each square on the game screen depending on resolution (oh and I do not support mdpi devices, thus it does not get to small).Now my problem is that I also write text in these squares. If I use the same font size for HVGA screens and for WVGA (hdpi-normal) screens the font gets to big on the HVGA (mdpi-normal) screen. I was thinking about being able to select font size depending on its width and could thus adapt the font size perfectly to the calculated square width. Is there any easy way of doing this (note: I am using TextPaint and not TextView) or do I have to calculate this myself, on the fly so to speak by creating some kind of table at start-up.
