HTC Hero :: Internet Connection On PC Through Phone?
Aug 11, 2009
Being impressed by what I saw and read about Hero, I'm considering getting one.What usually isn't part of the reviews is, how the sync application(s) work together with the phone. I see there's a decent solution for syncing with Outlook through HTC sync.It makes me wonder if there's also a possibility to share the internet connection on PC with HTC sync or any other app? I mean, to use the phone as a 3G modem when connected to PC?This feature would help a lot.since I don't have a separate mobile net stick on my laptop, but used my phone so far to have internet access on the go. With Windows Mobile phone and ActiveSync it was quite buggy but possible, with my current Nokia phone and the Nokia Software it's just two clicks after I connect the phone to the PC.I wonder if there's a similar solution supported for Android?

Done a search but not coming up with a definite answer.
Are there any nav systems which don't require an Internet connection that I can use on my hero.

I have had my HTC Hero for a couple of weeks now, and had no problems with the internet. However, today it will not connect. It is saying "Web page not available". I don't know if it is important, but it always seems to be connected to Edge, and not any other type of connection. I also use NetSentry, but I don't think this could be part of the problem, could it?

I've had a Hero for a few weeks now, and while most things are great, I'm finding the internet connection very unreliable. For example, if I try to use the browser to view a website, often it says it can't find the page, even for www.google.com, and this is using a bookmark so I know it's a valid address. Often in the Market, it says it doesn't have a connection and to retry or cancel.
I am usually connected via wi-fi, either at home or at the office, so I know the wi-fi connection is good, and both have been tested thoroughly with my iPhone 3G. It's almost as if I have to wait for something to happen before I can use the net, but I make sure the wifi signal symbol appears before I try anything. Why could my data connection be so unstable?

I got my HTC Hero the other day and am very very happy with it. The only problem is that I cannot connect to the internet through "Mobile Network". I am on a "3" contract and I am able to access "my 3" which is where I can look at my account, look at my last bill, check my usage, etc. I can also connect to 3 - Home - that loads fine. But any other website (google, bbc, facebook, etc.) will not load - it just times out after a while.
It seams obvious to me that this is an issue with my account on 3. I don't know how many hours I've been on the phone to these guys. I have gone through all the settings with them, more than twice - replaced my SIM card and tried my SIM in another phone. So Three are now looking into it and have passed my issue onto the network's team, now they said that it may take up to 21 days for someone to get back to me!

I will be traveling and would like to connect my Galaxy S to by Laptop to use it as a Internet connection.Galaxy S ==> Laptop (wired) ==> Internet..I've searched a bit but so far only found out how to use my phone as a Internet gateway but not the other way around. The reason is that I don't want to incur expensive roaming changes on my data plan since my laptop is connected at my office.

When the sync process ends it takes my PC's internet connection with it. I end up having to reboot my computer every time I sync. The sync itself seems to work ok, it just kills my internet connection on my PC every time. This has never happened on the half-dozen or so smartphones I had before the Evo.

I installed PC companion and there isn't any internet connection mode for tethering. When I plug in my K850, it shows an internet connection box, but this disappears when I connect the X10 Mini Pro to the PC.

Assuming the following:
Android 2.3.7 device is connected to an IPv6 internet connection
Tethering is legal for your device/carrier
The ipv6-test gives 10/10 (perfect score) for IPv6 readiness for your phone, and you can access e.g. [URL] ..... using the phone itself
You want to tether to a PC using USB
Device is rooted
Is there a way to give the PC access to the phone's IPv6 internet connection?
I'm assuming that we can't give the PC a public IPv6 address, because the phone is probably only allotted one IPv6 address from the carrier; plus they might treat your plan differently or something if you try to claim another IP address (it's an unnecessary complexity)
So what we actually need to do is, to create a NAT IPv6 space on the device, just like we do for IPv4 when we tether, and provision an IP to the PC that way. Then we have to do something for DNS; I guess we can use OpenDNS's AAAA servers.
Do any of the existing tethering methods support this at all, or is this something I'd have to do manually? Also, is it possible even in theory on Android 2.3, or is it known that a newer version of Android will enable it?

For the past few days, I have been having occasional problems connecting to the internet when my signal is showing as full bars of 3G. It usually corrects itself when I reboot but then happens again after some time. This happens when using both the dolphin and skyfire browsers. Ive also not been able to use my Sprint hotspot for the past two days. My laptop and iPhone show as being connected to the EVO via wifi but are unable to access the internet through it. Anyone else having these problems?

My WiFi drops connection all the time which seems to be a common problem for many Hero users. I've found the 'Wifi Fixer' application helps a little bit. You can download it for free from Market. It tries to reconnect your WiFi in the background everytime it drops.

I checked the other "no internet connection threads" but I don't quite see the same problem as I think I'm having. I have a non-rooted Desire (Swiss Sunrise) and I updated to 2.2. I'm going on a week's holiday soon and I wanted to see if my Irish sim would work in my phone because the data roaming rates with Sunrise are extortionate (13.90 Swiss francs per megabyte!). Lo and behold, I put the card in and it works no problem! I rang my wife's phone just to check.
There was an alert that came up, asking me to select my home network and I chose o2.ie and I think this may be where things went wrong. Now I can't connect to the mobile internet network even though I have selected Sunrise in settings->wireless/network->mobile network->access point names. Can someone tell me how I can reset my home network to Sunrise?

In my application I must use the internet connection ,so I check it first before I open an URL connection using this :-
public boolean IsConnectedToNetwork(ConnectivityManager conManager) { NetworkInfo allNetworkInfo = conManager.getActiveNetworkInfo(); NetworkInfo currNetworkInfo; boolean anythingConnected = false; for (int i = 0; i < allNetworkInfo.length; i++) { currNetworkInfo = allNetworkInfo[i];
if (currNetworkInfo.getState() == NetworkInfo.State.CONNECTED) { anythingConnected=true; }
}
return anythingConnected; }
However this code runs well when I connected to either the operator internet Or to a Wi-fi network. But when I'm connected to the operator but without credit and no internet the mobile also sees it as there's internet,or even connected to a Wi-fi network but without internet gateway it also sees as if it's connected to the internet.

I have created an adhoc wifi connection with internet sharing enabled on windows 7 and am struggling to get my Desire to see it. Another laptop can see it as well as my ipod touch.
I have tried both WEP and WPA-2 security types (only two available) and I cannot see the wifi.
Is there anything I have to do on the phone?
Forgot to add - I am able to connect to my home wifi (bt homehub) but I am no longer at home.

I am a newbie to Android so please excuse me if this is a silly question or one that has been answered many times before. When connecting to and using the Internet, I am trying to find out what determines the connection that the phone will use when more than one connection is available: Wifi, 3G etc. Is there a standard priority order for connection and use? can the user set the priority order? Usually I would expect the wifi connection to be preferred for reasons of speed and cost. I have looked at my phone user guide and the official Android user guide but cannot find any information about this.
