View 3 RepliesEver since I rooted my phone to Fresh 2.0D and learned how to do the Live Wallpapers hack as well, I have enjoyed my phone so much that I am changing my mind about getting the EVO. I am one of those geeks that has to have all the newest toys but since I've rooted and installed a custom Rom I find myself comparing my phone to the EVO and slowly realizing that my phone can be just as good. It really was the tethering thing that changed my mind. I think I will get the EVO once someone has learned to root it and do amazing things with it but until then, I am keeping the Hero. I truly love this phone.

Using the latest CM6 RC1 stable release. Whenever i get a notification my track ball flashes, and wont stop flashing after i check the notification, until i put the phone to sleep. I am using handcent, and in the notification settings i cant access the trackball flashing setting, its dark and unable to be clicked.

Can I change the LED colors? the pattern? Something!? I know that i can flip it over to silence it.
I just got my Hero a few days ago, previously I had an Instinct. So far I love the Hero, but one of my few complaints about it is having to take pictures by pressing the trackball. The trackball just feels odd to press and most of the time I have to press it multiple times for it to take a photo. Anyone have any solutions to this? I doubt there is a way to change this in the settings, but is there an app or something that uses a more convenient button for photos?

View 7 Replies View RelatedDownloaded from the market an app called Covedesign Dev. You can turn the track ball led on and off... different from the bottons on and off... Seems cool and I like that someone was able to do this... now we just need someone to integrate that into notification options...

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got my hero over the weekend and maybe I just didn't notice it until now. The bottom button/trackball plate seems to have a little looseness or play in it. If I push it left/right or up/down it moves a slight amount. It doesn't feel like it would pop off but its something I just noticed today. Or do I have to take it in to sprint for a replacement?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI am kind of new to the Hero community came from palm pre, is there a setting for the trackball to light up when i get or miss calls, MMS, gchat? If yes where do I go to enable it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI find this extremely annoying that at night when I am using the scroll ball that the thing keeps lighting up, and then shutting off, lighting up..etc.
Is there a way or an app that shuts off the lights to the hardbuttons/trackball?
This is especially necessary in the day time when i can see the buttons, i don't need them illuminated.
When I owned a palm, there was a program call KBlights... shut of the keyboard, hardbutton lights.
has anyone else updated and sees there trackall and button lights staying on AS LONG AS SCREEN IS ON? i cannot turn this off and its annoying during video playback
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhat's with the trackball and hard buttons singular brightness level? When my screen is completely dim because there is little to no ambient light, the last thing I want is the trackball blinding me like high beams from oncoming traffic. Does this irritate anyone else like it irritated me?
View 1 Replies View RelatedInstalled the XDA keyboard so I could access Speech-to-text input. Works great except that the "Hide Keyboard" button doesn't appear after I disabled the "Smiley Hack" per instructions I'd read. I never use smileys but often use the hide keyboard function.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a new HTC Hero (running new firmware) and all is fine except for one query regarding the trackball sensitivity.Basically it seems way-too sensitive for me, I find that the slightest touch moves it. For example it's very easy to over-shoot scrolling down a web page with multiple links and select the wrong one.I don't know if this is a feature or a fault since I have no other Hero to compare it with. (May be I have fat fingers!)Also I few (rare) times either the trackball has "moved itself" or something else weird has happend because I've seen the centre homescreen move on its own to the right... Which again makes me wonder whether there an issue with the trackball.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI see that there is a led notification and i was wondering if there is a trackball notification for the HTC Hero? Without Rooting the phone.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there an app or any way to keep the trackball flashing indefinitely when a message is received?
View 2 Replies View RelatedTwo things I think my Hero could do without7 Home Screens - I really don't need all that real estate on my phone. I think 3 or maybe 5 at the most would have been plenty. I feel compelled to fill each screen with all the really cool widgets but I presume this will have some performance cost on my phone. I know I could use a different Home app, but I'm trying to use Stock applications wherever possible to reduce app clutter.Trackball - I hardly ever use it, apart from maybe some precision clicking on links in the browser. Does anybody else use the trackball extensively.Maybe I'm missing a trick here.
I just sent an email and without thinking about it used the Trackball to navigate the cursor around my message... Looks like the Trackball might actually be quite useful after all.
how to get trackball LED working on froyd 1.5 ?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a question about handcent sms application. Whenever I get sms via standard message program, my trackball lights up. However, when I'm using handcent sms notification, it would not light up. I have turned the trackball light on in the settings, but it does not work. Does anyone else have this problem?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI've had my hero for several weeks now, and i've barely used the trackball at all; once or twice for fine tuning the cursor position (functionality that could easily be replicated by a couple of cursor softkeys) and when using the camera (which is only because they *make* you use the trackball).
I wouldn't be surprised if we start to see android phones released in the near future without the trackball.
I wouldn't mind, but i searched the app store and i couldn't find a marble madness clone anywhere! Does anyone use the thing on a regular basis or find it indispensable in any other way? Any good apps or games that make use of it?
While I'm at it - i dont think i've EVER pressed the call button (furthest one on the left), always use the touchscreen instead. I just pressed it now for the first time to see what it would do, and accidentally dialed somebody, they just called me back to see what i wanted, because all they could hear was the clacking of keys as i typed this post.
Is there anyway to get a glowing trackball for notifications like the N1?? That would be kinda cool.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got my new HTC Hero and I'm still getting to know it at the moment... However I do have a little frustration with it. The trackball will light up and everything when I get a missed call or email or sms etc. and it will keep it up only for some 10 minutes. Any idea how or if it can be set up to light up indefinitely (that is, until i clear the notifications)?
