I downloaded the Z4root app off of the market and rooted my phone with the ota 2.31.651.7 installed! I haven't flashed a ROM yet but I did get the WiFi tether down loaded.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Hero is going haywire. I was trying to download some apps from the market today and they don't want to start. So I rebooted my phone to see if it made any difference. Now when it starts up I get error messages that the com.android.phone and a few others are not working and have to force a close. I have no service either. All the installed apps and components are working but not phone itself. I am with Cellular South in Mississippi and my wife has a Hero also which is working normally so I know it's not a network issue.

It was 9mb of precious space and when I connect my phone to my PC I cant find it anywhere and I for sure can't find it anywhere on my phone. I also have a ton of pics on my card apparently from viewing pictures through email. How do i delete this junk. The pics don't show under gallery they just showed up when I transferred pics to my PC.
View 1 Replies View RelatedToday i have been having some fun today downloading and yes buying (!) apps from the mkt. well, i started getting a little instability - i couldn't get an IP from my wireless router --- i had d/l "wifi keep alive" and "wifi reconnect" and "wifi reassociation". so i went to the mkt intending to uninstall one by one until i restored my ability to DHCP to the router. selecting the "downloads" section of the mkt revealed only about two pages worth of apps. believe me - i have a LOT more apps than that! mostly all the apps that appear are purchased apps (one exception - gmail is there too) - but even then, not "all" of my purchased apps are there! in doing my due dilligence checking to see if anyone else had this problem and solved it, i found this thread and this thread - neither of which have anything to say to help me. ANY idea how to get my apps to show up in the mkt? the apps themselves ARE STILL ON MY hero, they just don't appear in the mkt)

It's the best SMS Application to me, but I'm not sure if it makes my phone run a bit laggy. I always go back to the stock app even tho its kind of boring, but very fast. I guess the question is, Is Handcent really worth it to you?

When I get a call, it doesn't ring or vibrate or anything, but when I get a text, it rings. But the mobile data option doesn't seem to affect my mobile network toggle. I am guessing this app was meant for other androids. Is there any other app out there as good as this one dedicated to the sprint HTC Hero?

Make sure you don't run any applications and leave them open. So if you ever have the same problem, turn off your phone and place it by an open window and let it cool off for a good 5-10 minutes.

It's kind of hard to ignore the fact that the day 2.1 is officially released for the HTC Sprint Hero - is the same day that 2.2 is "unveiled." The one thing I really wanted was the ability to launch apps from my SD card without having to root. I think I'll just root 2.1 once that happens. But do any other Hero owners feel a tad bit messed?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to go wireless and get rid of my DSL I have tried US Cellular tethered, abysmally slow. I tried Verizon, fast enough, very expensive for what you get. Now I am trying Sprint with a Hero and a Samsung Moment to use as phones etc, plus tether to our laptop and desk top to use as a modem. The Sprint store personnel tell me that it can be done, just not something that Sprint will tell me how to do. One of the young ladies tell me that there is an AP that I can download to do it. She uses her Hero as a modem all the time. What would I need to do?

New to the hero and i have a question. i have installed sms text to replace the hero app and now whenever a text comes in i get notification for both apps. how do i disable the hero text application? i don't really want to unistall it, just disable it. I never know whats missing because I have so many or if I'm buying a new one, whether or not I have it already. So I'm just looking for something that can handle a long list (600+ movies I have) and simply a check box to click if it has been loaned out and a numbering system to keep track of the running total. This has happened with Pandora, Key Ring Finder, Audio Manager and countless other apps. With some other apps, after updating the application, it will work fine, but the name will change to something odd like com.chompsms.Well, i was reading through Key Ring Finder update and realized that something is occuring specifically with the HTC Hero that is causing this with application updates.But there is a ::drum roll please:: workaround! When updating an app, do not select the 'update' option! This is where the programs become corrupt. Instead, click 'uninstall', then reinstall the application. The freshly installed copy will work perfectly!

View 20 Replies View RelatedJust wanted to report a potential issue with the Sprint HTC Hero. Me and a few friends have experienced an issue where if you:
1) install an application
2) update it or uninstall and reinstall
3) reboot your phone
Then on many applications, the launcher icon will be messed up as well as the name of the application under the icon. In many of these cases, this renders the application unusable including Google Sky and Pandora. If you then uninstall these applications and reinstall them they will work fine until you reboot your phone again. The problem doesn't seem to exist if you install the application the first time. Only does it exist if you update it and reboot or if you uninstall/reinstall and reboot. There is a fairly lengthy thread on the Android Developers mailing list regarding this. Google seems to think it is unique to the Hero itself since a stock Android device (ie: G1) doesn't have this problem. Other developers are experiencing the same thing.
Are there any emails apps that we can use to replace the stock one? I would like to be able to filter emails but I just don't like the look or feel of the stock one.

If I try to use it I get a popup that says: Sorry - The application of Camera (process com.android.camera) has stopped unexpectedly. The button below says 'Force close'. What could I have done? How do I fix it? Also my battery life at the same time has gone from acceptable to horrendous. Is this related or coincidence?
