HTC Hero :: How To Tether Phone Using Pdanet?
Apr 27, 2010Ok, first of all I am using one program right now called "easy tether" but i had pdanet and it worked fine on the trial part, that expired and I tired to connect to it and kept getting an error code "633" so I thought it was just because it was the trial program and not the real thing so I purchased the damn thing and I still can't get it up and running. I didn't mind paying for it as I said it ran pretty good before and just thought I would stick with it but I can't seem to get it up and running. I downloaded the easy tether and it runs good too but since I paid for pdanet I would like to at least try and see if I can get it up and running so can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong by getting that code? If I can't get it going I need to request a refund and I am out of town right now and that is why I need it so I can access the internet while I am gone, I can't go a month without internet!!! So can someone try and explain if they can what might be going on for pdanet not to run. Like I said I am using the easy-tether right now as we speak but it is a trial version too so don't want to have to pay for another one to avoid not being able to access secure sites.

Aug 9, 2010Tried running wireless tether 1.6 that comes with Fresh 2.3.3. No luck.Uninstalled Wireless Tether and reinstalled it from the developer's site. My laptop connects to the phone's WiFi network, but cannot access the internet. I've tried turning the phone's mobile network off/on while tether was running and also prior to turning on tether.

May 9, 2010Got it to work over usb but can't seem to figure it out how to work over bluetooth. I can find my phone under devices but it has nothing listed under device function or bluetooth services. I was able to send my phone a file from my computer via bluetooth. My phone also says under bluetooth devices it's paired but not conectected to my computer. I'm running windows 7.

Oct 3, 2010With much headache I've gotten PdaNet to work with DroidX via Bluetooth, despite some part of the Bluetooth driver not installing correctly/missing driver component.I've got the thing to what seemed to be the connected state on my dad's laptop, because he wants to browse at work, anyway.. I think the Bluetooth connection is working, but Verizon seems to be able to tell that its a tether because it pops up that Verizon page asking me to get a payed subscription for the tethering service (the site that shows the pretty chart where they say they want $30 more) no matter what site URL I type in.Any ideas why this happens? suggestions?Is there another solution that people have confirmed working for DroidX or am I doing something wrong? Also, I read that to use the USB connection to PdaNet I had to install the PdaNet Desktop app, which I tried to but kept failing install using the Motorola and Generic driver options, but I think despite this, PdaNet seems to not work right because of that page keeps popping up asking me to purchase the HotSpot plan addon. What do you all think? Thanks for help beforehand.

Apr 17, 2010I went from a stock 1.5 to 2.1 using the Sprint 2.1 RUU and all is well. I understand it's a dev build and as such is already root but when I trying installing android-wifi-tether (both 2.0 and 1.6) it all looks well except when I touch the icon to start and it fails. The 1.6 version did report I didn't have root.
What do I need to do in ADB/shell to ensure the proper permissions are there for AWT? This is the last thing I want to get working and I'm happy.
Do I need to remount the filesystem as rw? Add superuser? Not sure what's needed.

Aug 20, 2010I have a rooted hero on sprint with unlimited data but I found out that o can tether my xbox but , I worry now Sprint may catch on to my tethering and may surprise me with a high bill since I haven't paid for mobile hotspot Not that I wouldn't but it is not available with my phone . May 20, 2010I just installed Fresh 2.1.1, and its running great with one exception. Wireless Tether, which is the reason I rooted in the first place, wont run. When I start the app it gives me a popup saying that root access is required. I have 2 options override and close. If I override and turn on the tether the screen goes black and says su permission at the top.

Mar 18, 2010My Hero is going haywire. I was trying to download some apps from the market today and they don't want to start. So I rebooted my phone to see if it made any difference. Now when it starts up I get error messages that the com.android.phone and a few others are not working and have to force a close. I have no service either. All the installed apps and components are working but not phone itself. I am with Cellular South in Mississippi and my wife has a Hero also which is working normally so I know it's not a network issue.

Nov 4, 2010I tried searching but did not find anything to answer this question. I recently rooted my wife's hero so she could use wireless tether. Everything works great except that the phone discharges at an alarming rate. While plugged into the wall, it discharges faster than it can charge. Is this normal? I tried different cables/chargers but nothing seems to charge or keep the charge while wireless tether is on and being used. My evo easily handles the wireless tether and even charges up the phone while doing it. If this is normal for the Hero then I will not worry anymore about it. Will just tell her to use the wireless tether in 1-2 hours times to avoid draining her phone all the way.

It was 9mb of precious space and when I connect my phone to my PC I cant find it anywhere and I for sure can't find it anywhere on my phone. Oct 3, 2010Today i have been having some fun today downloading and yes buying (!) apps from the mkt. well, i started getting a little instability - i couldn't get an IP from my wireless router --- i had d/l "wifi keep alive" and "wifi reconnect" and "wifi reassociation". so i went to the mkt intending to uninstall one by one until i restored my ability to DHCP to the router. selecting the "downloads" section of the mkt revealed only about two pages worth of apps. believe me - i have a LOT more apps than that! mostly all the apps that appear are purchased apps (one exception - gmail is there too) - but even then, not "all" of my purchased apps are there! in doing my due dilligence checking to see if anyone else had this problem and solved it, i found this thread and this thread - neither of which have anything to say to help me. ANY idea how to get my apps to show up in the mkt? the apps themselves ARE STILL ON MY hero, they just don't appear in the mkt)
