Samsung Epic 4G :: Daylight Savings Time By 2 Hours Instead Of 1
Nov 7, 2010
I live in the central time zone. This morning I woke up and my phone decided to adjust for daylight savings time by 2 hours instead of 1. I checked the time and date settings to find that the date settings were checked to "automatic". Somehow the phone decided I was in the Mountain time zone instead of central. why/how that would happen? If I uncheck the automatic, and manually change my time zone it works fine.

it looks like its an Android bug, but my alarm & my calendar alerts are not working correctly, as well as CalWidget. My Google Cal & the Cal on the phone are correct. I had to reboot to get the time updated to what it should be today.

I am trying to get the transition date for daylight savings in Android. That is the date that daylight savings start and ends for a specific timezone.

I woke up this morning to find that my Ally has the wrong time in the notification bar, as well as one of the widgets that i have for an alarm which shows when the next alarm comes up. however, the correct time shows in the weather widget. as it is Sunday morning, i looked up daylight savings and noticed that the clocks in Europe get set back an hour today. could my phone somehow be in European mode or something? maybe an android 2.1 glitch, since it came out after the last fall switch if I recall and therefore may not have been tested for a problem like this. I can't find an option to switch the clock manually anywhere, is there a way to fix this or do i just wait a week for the US daylight savings to click in?

I live in Arizona, and we don't observe DST. On my computer, all my Google calendar appointments from tomorrow on have the correct time and my calendar time zone is set to Arizona. On my device, everything tomorrow onward has been shifted ahead one hour, as if DST should be affecting my appointments.

I had bluetooth, 4G, wifi, screen on the brightest, 20 apps running at once, screen timeout at 30 min, and sprint tv playing, and it took me 4 hrs to drain my battery....is there a faster way? I was hoping I could drain it in like 2 hrs lol. I'm trying to condition my battery!

Minimal use, but still. Probably about 20 texts and checked email 3 or 4 times. Currently unplugged for 12+ hours and my battery is at 90%!
Let me first say, I'm rooted and running a noobnl's Andromeda custom ROM, bloatware is removed, OmaDRMconfigService.drm removed.
3G and wifi off by using Quick Settings (from market) except when in use.

What will Date.getTime() returns in a region with Daylight Saving Time enabled? Does this function returns a DST time or not? I call Date.getTime() in a place with DST (such as U.S.), and convert it to a local time in China (no DST), I get a wrong time (one hour ahead of local time in China). How can I fixed this problem?Maybe I didn't tell tings clearly, but we don't use DST in China... I don't understand DST very well.

I'm the new owner of an X10 and I'm, so far ;-), really happy about it. I still have an issue that prevent me to throw away my old Palm agenda. I have a Google Calendar that is synchronised to both my Palm and now mu X10. I notice a strange "one hour shift" issue with my X10: every appointment after the Daylight Saving Time is shifted from one hour on the X10. I figure that this is related to the way the X10 handle the daylight saving: the automatic setting for the time zone is GMT+02:00:HMG+2:00 whereas Google calendar says correctly that Paris is on the GMt+01:00 with a one hour shift due to summer time. Is there a way to fix this issue that prevent me from using the agenda?

Do those numbers seem normal to the rest of you? Right now if I am using my phone for browsing, video, etc. it will run the battery from full charge to dead in just under 4 hours. If I just leave the phone turned on but with no apps running (standby) it runs out of power in roughly 48 hours. Is this the battery life I should expect from this phone?

My Epic Has been charging for hours now and still hasn't hit full charge. I was charging it at work all day and now when I got home. Horrible battery life and worst of all it takes insane amounts of time for it too charge. Yes I have reset my phone many times and even did a factory reset. Is this happening to anyone else?

I have tried several clock widgets but none keep time accurately. They are always behind the time on the task bar. I made sure that my task killer is not closing it. What else could be causing this. Please be gentle if it's an obvious fix. I'm a newbie with my first android phone.

I am coming to the conclusion that the poor battery charge time is a result of the batteries and not the phone. The reason I believe this to be true is: I purchased the charger that comes with a spare battery and it takes a good 3-4 hours to charge in that, with no phone attached. Batteries in my previous phones would take an hour to fully charge in a dedicated charger. I bet when Seidio comes out with batteries for this phone, we will see much better charge times and possibly better battery life.

I purchased the phone today at 8:20AM CDT. It is now 1:10PM CDT and I have not gotten any work done. That's over 20% of the day already drained. All the tweaks and technology that has gone in this phone, and neither Sprint or Samsung were able to slow down time. At this rate, I won't be able to even go through a full day without not spending most of my time on the phone. I've been told that time management will be better as time goes on, but I'm worried I might need to get spare hours in a day. Lets hope there is a firmware update soon that will help with this. I am sure my friends, family, and employers will really appreciate it.

I've had the phone for a few days now, and today when I received an MMS (picturemail) from a friend, the timestamp was off by exactly 4 hours (I received at 8:32PM, but timestamp was 4:32PM), normally, not a big deal, but it throws off order in the messages because those it's my most recent message, it still shows in relation to messages I correctly received before 8:32PM but after 4:32PM. Anyone experience something similar, or have a solution?

If you live in the Eastern time zone, please participate in this poll and indicate whether you have received the D118 update yet OTA (over the air). If you downloaded and installed the update yourself, please do not participate in this poll. This poll is designed to determine the penetration in the Eastern part of the United States. If you indicate NO and leter get the update, please come back and change your response (hopefully vBullitain supports that).

I am getting MMS (Pictures) from another Sprint user (both of us are on the east coast) who has a Touch Pro 2 running Windows 6.5 and every time I get an MMS message from him its back stamped 4 hours. So if he sends it at 8pm it gets time stamped at 4pm on my phone. When he sends me an SMS (text message) its is CORRECTLY time stamped at 8pm. This causes my threaded messaging to put his MMS all the way up in the thread. This is UNACCEPTABLE and either SPRINT or HTC should figure out what is going on with time stamps and there phone and software.

I bough the Doggcatcher app to try and get an itunes podcast to work, but it didn't. Today I realized I hadn't uninstalled it yet, so I went to the market to uninstall it. I bought it yesterday around 8:00pm. I tried refunding and uninstalling however I was told they were not able to refund me "At this time" and to try again later. I uninstalled it anyway and tried refunding it an hour later (now) and it says "Your purchase could not be refunded." I thought I had 24 hours, why can't I get a refund on it? It doesn't work for me and I have no use for it, however I have plenty of other use for the $7 I paid for it. Anyone know of a workaround? WHat happens if the 24 hour mark passes and it never allowed me to refund it?

I have two EVO's, and I'm on the absolutely unlimited everything plan for both phones, which means that on a monthly basis Now, if I moved down to unlimited everything plan except for calls to landlines, I could save a lot. As I understand that plan, all calls to any cell phone are unlimited, but I would have a minutes cap on land line calls during the day on weekdays. So, can I use some kind of App to make land line calls during the day on weekdays and avoid the charge to my limited land line minutes? I would want an App that allows calls to be received and placed. I think there is an App for that, but it requires a new number to be registered?
