Samsung Moment :: Potential - Daylight Saving Time

Mar 13, 2010

I live in Arizona, and we don't observe DST. On my computer, all my Google calendar appointments from tomorrow on have the correct time and my calendar time zone is set to Arizona. On my device, everything tomorrow onward has been shifted ahead one hour, as if DST should be affecting my appointments.

Android :: Date.getTime() And Daylight Saving Time?

Jul 19, 2009

What will Date.getTime() returns in a region with Daylight Saving Time enabled? Does this function returns a DST time or not? I call Date.getTime() in a place with DST (such as U.S.), and convert it to a local time in China (no DST), I get a wrong time (one hour ahead of local time in China). How can I fixed this problem?Maybe I didn't tell tings clearly, but we don't use DST in China... I don't understand DST very well.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini/pro :: Handle Daylight Saving Time With Calendar?

Oct 26, 2010

I'm the new owner of an X10 and I'm, so far ;-), really happy about it. I still have an issue that prevent me to throw away my old Palm agenda. I have a Google Calendar that is synchronised to both my Palm and now mu X10. I notice a strange "one hour shift" issue with my X10: every appointment after the Daylight Saving Time is shifted from one hour on the X10. I figure that this is related to the way the X10 handle the daylight saving: the automatic setting for the time zone is GMT+02:00:HMG+2:00 whereas Google calendar says correctly that Paris is on the GMt+01:00 with a one hour shift due to summer time. Is there a way to fix this issue that prevent me from using the agenda?

Samsung Epic 4G :: Daylight Savings Time By 2 Hours Instead Of 1

Nov 7, 2010

I live in the central time zone. This morning I woke up and my phone decided to adjust for daylight savings time by 2 hours instead of 1. I checked the time and date settings to find that the date settings were checked to "automatic". Somehow the phone decided I was in the Mountain time zone instead of central. why/how that would happen? If I uncheck the automatic, and manually change my time zone it works fine.

Android :: Handcent Timestamp Glitch - Daylight Saving?

Nov 8, 2010

I'm a Verizon user in the US Pacific time zone (GMT-8) and ever since daylight saving ended yesterday, I've had a glitch on my incoming message non-Verizon timestamps...they come in as GMT. I just received one at 1:42pm and it says 5:42am. This has been happening all day yesterday and today on messages sent from non-Verizon customers but the ones from my Verizon-using wife are just fine. I can't find any way to fix it in the software itself.

Android :: Repeating Alarms With AlarmManager And Daylight Saving / Leap Years

Feb 9, 2009

I'm looking for a way to trigger repeated actions. I'd like the user to be able to choose the intervals at which these actions will be executed. One should be able to choose from intervals like "Every Day", "Every Month", and "Every Year". The setRepeating(int, long, long, PendingIntent) method of the android.app.AlarmManager class only supports a long value for choosing the interval between the execution of the pending intent. My problem now is, that I can not just compute the number of milliseconds that "fit into one day", since not all days have the same length (daylight saving). This is also a problem for the interval type "year" (leap years).

I had a quick look at the android.os.Handler class, but as I understood the documentation I'd need to keep a service thread running for my actions to be executed at some future time. I don't consider that a good option for my needs ;-) Is there anything in the API I could configure with a cron expression or the like? I was also thinking about scheduling an alarm with the AlarmManager for a single execution at a given date/time and then having a receiver that does the rescheduling according to a cron expression attached to the intent. But I don't know if I just got something completely wrong here and I'm reinventing the wheel with that approach

Samsung Moment :: Error Saving - Deleting Files And Browser Downloads

Sep 4, 2010

Some time ago...I estimate a week at most, I received an error when simply saving a file from my Browser, stating there was not enough space to do so. Knowing my phone had mre than adequate space, I presumed it was just an error with my browser.

Trying again with a different internet browser, I was met again with the same dilema. To make matters worse, I cannot permanently delete picture files from the default viewer on my phone. Queerily, I can delete them, only to have the pictures return hours later. To make my situation more unusual; Upon viewing the SD card mounted on my laptop, I can move, add & delete any form of files with ease. Even saving/deleting other files using different apps (Videobox, for example) gives me no hassle whatsoever.

One solution I'm willing, but at the same time reluctant to try is to reset my phone entirely to it's factory default setting (prior to backing up all of my SD card's data, of course)

Samsung Moment :: Moment Awake Time Above 90%

Nov 9, 2009

I started posting my findings on the Battery Quirk thread but thought this needed its own thread as I saw more folks saying they have the same issue. This is not a Battery Life post. This is in reference to Spare Parts showing my Awake time to be above 90% and my phone dying in under 4 hours.I have applied the same fix that worked in the Hero (former hero owner here) to see if it made a difference. So far, here are my findings.

7:30PM - Cut phone on, looked at the home screen then put it to sleep.
7:50PM - Woke phone up and checked Spareparts. Awake time under 10%.
Sent and recieved 1 sms message and put phone back to sleep.
8:10PM - Woke phone up and checked Spareparts. Awake time above 50%.
Put phone to sleep.
8:30PM - Woke phone up and checked Spareparts. Awake time at 65%.

Installed Handcent SMS app. Cut phone off.

8:40PM - Cut phone on, looked at home screen then put it to sleep.
9:00PM - Woke phone up and checked Spareparts. Awake time under 10%.
Sent and recieved 1 SMS message using Handcent as the default
and put phone back to sleep.
9:20PM - Woke phone up and checked Spareparts. Awake time at 12%.
Put phone to sleep.
9:40PM - Woke phone up and checked Spareparts. Awake time 15%. Made a phone call.
10:30PM - Woke phone up and checked Spareparts. Awake time 25%. Put phone to sleep.

I am wondering if the stock SMS app can trigger the dialer to lock the phone in awake mode like it was doing on the Hero. My tests prior to making a call seem to confirm that but it is VERY early in my testing to make any determination. I just wanted to throw this out as a possible cause for some of us. I realize not everyone is seeing this but not everyone is looking at Awake time as it requires a third party app on the Moment.

I have background data off, gps off, wifi off, bluetooth off. I have 3 homescreens and the only additional apps I run are PandaHome and Advanced Task Manager (paid). My wife has a Moment with the exact same apps and does not have this issue. I almost think it is some sequence of events that I normally do that is triggering the issue or vice-versa.I will keep posting as I test different scenarios on my phone and welcome any input from those who are also searching for a fix for this issue. I also do not claim to be any kind of Android Ninja so if any of the more technical folks out there see some flaw in my logic, please point it out.

Android :: Best Time Saving Application

Nov 4, 2010

an away-message app called Siesta Text. (this msg ain't spam by the way! i'm truly psyched on the thing). anyhow, this thing sends auto-replies to anyone who calls or sends you texts (if you have it on). my buddy at AOL said he was using a similar one for a while, but Siesta was way cleaner + easier. also, apparently the fact that you can program them to repeat for up to a year is a big deal (?)

i just switched from iPhone to Droid and downloaded it yesterday. have had it for exactly 1 day and it's literally changing my life. anyhow, thought anyone who's interested in saving time (and not feeling the burden of having to respond immediately to everyone) would enjoy it. also, by the looks of their site, they ain't got one for iPhone, so screw you again Apple! again, i JUST joined this board and am probably way late to the party, but check it out!

I would love to try out the Samsung Moment, but don't have the $$ to just go out and buy one.My hero comes with all it had when new, plus I have an extra battery for it I will add to the deal. This hero has only been used for about a week, and while using it, it "lived" in my Blackberry Tour holster to give it maximum protection. There are no scratches or rub marks on it, never been dropped and I have reset it to Factory Specs via the SECURITY MENU and the ESN is clear and ready to be activated on your SPRINT account. Please email me at sy@rayzel.com if you are interested. Maybe we can work out a swap. Now for the additional 1 to 2 feet of snow that is forecast for this afternoon and tomorrow, on top of the 2.5 feet still on the ground.

Samsung Moment :: Is Samsung Moment Capable Of Multi - Touch?

Oct 21, 2009

I currently own a Palm Pre and I'm ready to ditch it for an Android device. Don't get me wrong, webOS is clean and has a lot of potential, but for now...lacking would be a good (albeit understated) word to describe it. I want to jump the Pre ship for the Samsung Moment, but one thing I keep reading about the Moment is bothering me - everyone says it doesn't have multi-touch. However, I recently read that multi-touch is something Android doesn't yet support. This knowledge was previously unbeknownst to me since I haven't used an Android device since the G1 first launched. Since the Moment uses a standard Android build, the OS wouldn't allow multi-touch even if the phone were capable of it. So my question is: Does anyone know whether or not the Moment is capable of multi-touch? If it's simple a shortcoming of Android, I can deal with it since I know Android 2.0 should finally support it.

I've read that some people believe that wireless-n support for the Nexus One comes with Froyo... maybe this is something else to look forward to when Froyo comes to the Evo.
