Samsung Behold 2 :: Daylight Savings Time - Alarm & Calendar Alerts Not Working Correctly?
Mar 15, 2010
it looks like its an Android bug, but my alarm & my calendar alerts are not working correctly, as well as CalWidget. My Google Cal & the Cal on the phone are correct. I had to reboot to get the time updated to what it should be today.

I live in the central time zone. This morning I woke up and my phone decided to adjust for daylight savings time by 2 hours instead of 1. I checked the time and date settings to find that the date settings were checked to "automatic". Somehow the phone decided I was in the Mountain time zone instead of central. why/how that would happen? If I uncheck the automatic, and manually change my time zone it works fine.

I woke up this morning to find that my Ally has the wrong time in the notification bar, as well as one of the widgets that i have for an alarm which shows when the next alarm comes up. however, the correct time shows in the weather widget. as it is Sunday morning, i looked up daylight savings and noticed that the clocks in Europe get set back an hour today. could my phone somehow be in European mode or something? maybe an android 2.1 glitch, since it came out after the last fall switch if I recall and therefore may not have been tested for a problem like this. I can't find an option to switch the clock manually anywhere, is there a way to fix this or do i just wait a week for the US daylight savings to click in?

I'm the new owner of an X10 and I'm, so far ;-), really happy about it. I still have an issue that prevent me to throw away my old Palm agenda. I have a Google Calendar that is synchronised to both my Palm and now mu X10. I notice a strange "one hour shift" issue with my X10: every appointment after the Daylight Saving Time is shifted from one hour on the X10. I figure that this is related to the way the X10 handle the daylight saving: the automatic setting for the time zone is GMT+02:00:HMG+2:00 whereas Google calendar says correctly that Paris is on the GMt+01:00 with a one hour shift due to summer time. Is there a way to fix this issue that prevent me from using the agenda?

So I've been counting on the alerts from the calendar to warn me prior to meetings (not synced to Outlook- system won't allow). I haven't changed anything on the phone and today it didn't alert me for two different appointments? Has this happened to you? Also, is there any way to set the time of alert different from the standard 5 minutes before appointment?

I live in Arizona, and we don't observe DST. On my computer, all my Google calendar appointments from tomorrow on have the correct time and my calendar time zone is set to Arizona. On my device, everything tomorrow onward has been shifted ahead one hour, as if DST should be affecting my appointments.

Does anyone know how to make a wallpaper you get from your photo gallery to not look so grainy and fit correctly? The ones that come out of the ROM look fine but I can't get any other ones to work.

I am looking for a widget (it could be a Clock and/or Weather or Calendar widget) which also display the time/day of the next scheduled alarm. I tried many of the most popular Widgets apps on the market but I couldn't find any.

After many attempts to try and use the terminal emulator that is already preloaded onto the behold 2 , and many failures..After trying out different Terminal Em.'s and always having my phone lag because they wernt made for it...i have finally found a way to get terminal emulator working with no lag or no slow down in performance... First you must have root,of course, Next, Use an app called root explorer or something similar and goto the folder /system/app/ and find the two files Term.apk and Term.odex, and MOVE them to your sd card from your phone, you want them gone from your system/app folder After that simply goto the market and search for Terminal Emulator , re-download and there you have it, Working term. em. on the behold 2.Peace Ladz.

I am trying to figure out a way to be able to have a separate notification tone for email, text and calendar alerts on my Epic. Can anyone help? On my Moment I was able to create folders (ringtones, alerts, notifications, etc) on my SD card, but I was not sure if this will work on the Epic as well.

What will Date.getTime() returns in a region with Daylight Saving Time enabled? Does this function returns a DST time or not? I call Date.getTime() in a place with DST (such as U.S.), and convert it to a local time in China (no DST), I get a wrong time (one hour ahead of local time in China). How can I fixed this problem?Maybe I didn't tell tings clearly, but we don't use DST in China... I don't understand DST very well.

I can be sat in a quiet room in the middle of an email or SMS conversation and when I check the display there is visual notification of a new message but the phone hasn't made a sound.Completely maddening. If it continues I will return the phone as it is not fit for purpose.

I have a Samsung Jet right now and I absolutely HATE it's calendar and alarm. It limits the amount of words you can introduce and it forces you to introduce A LOT of data that should be automatic, plus selecting the time you want to set the alarm on your calendar to go off is really stupid...instead of letting you simply write the time you are forced to press a button that makes the time go up and down until you've reached the time you want. AND I have to select the ring tone I want to use for the alarm EVERYTIME I set a different alarm on my calendar. I use my calendar A LOT and the whole process is slow and time consuming. Even my old Nokia N95 was waaay better when it came it's calendar you would simply type the name of the alarm (no word restriction, you could insert all the info you needed) and selected the time and that's it...there were more options (location, details, etc), but they were OPTIONAL.What I want to know is if the newer Samsung cell phones's calendars are still like this (since I'm planing to buy one).

I've experienced the following problems in 2.1 and had hoped that it would be rectified in 2.2. FYI I'm using a UK unbranded SIM free SGS and the stock alarm with the smart alarm feature turned on. When I set the alarm for the morning and then cancel it later on (e.g. I wake up naturally an hour before the alarm) I find that despite canceling it the alarm still goes off at the initially set time.
First of all, I was simply unchecking the green alarm symbol in the "clock" application. Then as this was failing to cancel it, I would long press the set alarm time until the option delete would appear and completely deleting the time altogether, yet the alarm still goes off. I have also noticed in 2.2 that the alarm date does not seem to be as intuitive as it was before. Previously I recall setting the alarm the night before by scrolling the time forward past midnight to the morning and the day would follow suit.
However, a couple of time that I have used the alarm the alarm has tried to enable itself for the same day as being set. However, as the clock is being scrolled forward this would often show as time to alarm 6+ days and hours. Don't recall seeing that on 2.1? Finally, is there a dedicated place where more smart alarms can be downloaded and incorporated into the smart alarm feature? I know of Zedge, White Noise and others but most are not true smart alarm sounds. Often just screen shots or clips of noises, which do not segway nicely into the start of the alarm loop when the track has completed.

Used the search feature to no avail. The stock calendar app is not honoring any of my alarms/reminders setup in my Google calendar. I installed Gemini, and turned on the Notifications, but it tells me to disable any other notifications. Problem is, I can't find an option to do that anywhere.Long story short, if anyone knows of ANY calendar app for the Fascinate that will honor alarms/reminders, please let me know. I am in desperate need of one.

Just got unlimited texting on my phone FINALLY! Tried logging into the IM app...for MSN and Yahoo...keep getting Timed Out messages. The only times I have succesfully logged in, is when I had restarted my phone a couples times. (but that takes forever!)
I have installed on my phone task manager which auto-kills unnessasary apps so not to waste battery but I made sure to put google talk on the ignore list which is to my knowledge the IM app I'm trying to use.

I am wanting to take the calendar widget and app from the behold 2 and see if I can't port them over to my new droid. I really didn't want to leave tmo but as there service is severely lacking where I now live I had no choice. I can not seem to find an app like the one the came stock with the behold 2 and I really like that one.
What I have tried so far is to pull the calendar app off the behold and push it on to the droid no luck doesn't open.
I have also tried to use appmonster to install it from the apk but again no luck. can anyone maybe give me some other ideas? I really really want that calendar app.

Very pleased with the Captivate - plenty of learning and adjustment to this phone and platform, but enjoying it very much.Quick question - searched, but didn't see a posting. Is there anyway to set-up Calendar (stock app) such that it will automatically set an alarm for every entry that one enters into the calendar? Example - I want all of my appointments to have an alarm, but I'm having to set alarms for each appointment I put into the calendar. Is there anyway to set-up Calendar such that it defaults to set an alarm for every appointment (when I set it up and such that I don't have to tick the box each time)?

Its 2pm and i have 15% battery left. I cant figure out why. I am thinking my wife bumped it unplugged last night when our son woke up (he is teething). I think on android 1.6 it tells you the date and time it was unplugged. I just cant find it on 1.5, i have spare parts and havent found it in there either.

I'm not sure if this is an android problem, or a samsung i9000 problem, but either way it's an annoying problem that I'd love to find a solution for ?_? I simply cant get the alarm to work for me (overnight. it's fine in the very short term). It appears to be because the clock stops moving/updating when the phone goes to sleep, because when I turn the screen back on I can see that the time is off by multiple hours, depending upon when it stopped updating, and stays that way for a couple of seconds before changing to the correct time.
Things to note here..
I do NOT use a task killer
The alarm volume is up
I have tried the alarm both with and without the Automatic, network provided time setting. The clock still stops moving. I've not updated anything from the standard (UK) firmware
