I used the stock email app on my Captivate and configured it to point to my Hotmail account. Now I want to get rid of this but I did not find an option to remove this account setup. How do I do this?

just got my desire this morning and i don't really know what i'm doing with it, i've never had a smart phone before. i've set up my hotmail account as the email account on the phone but, call me paranoid, i'd rather not have it on there at all. if i delete the account on the phone will it have any detremental effect on the actual email account?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had my Captivate since the 19th of July and have been pretty happy with it but today my email accounts disappeared from my phone.I've been using the email app that came with the phone without issues but today my personal gmail and my work exchange accounts vanished. I noticed I hadn't received a new email notification in several hours so I went to check my email it prompted me to setup an email account. Anyone else have this happen? I only have 2 days to return my Captivate, it's been a good phone so far but I cant afford to lose my email accounts for no apparent reason again. I haven't installed any new apps or made any changes to the phone.Coming from the Blackberry world I took it for granted that email just worked flawlessly.

View 15 Replies View RelatedIn the email app that came with my Sprint HTC Evo, I added my googleapps email... I then later discovered the gmail android app works better.. So I set it up there also. However, the email app still has my email account setup in it.. I don't see a way to delete it. I've held down the account, but no context menu shows up.. there's no delete function apparently.. I'd add another account to test with, but I'm afraid I won't be able to delete that either!

View 4 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how to clear historical contacts from the Email application. I'm using yahoo, I don't have Gmail set up on this phone because yahoo is my primary email. I've sent emails to 3 wrong emails. For example JoeSmith@aol.com, JSmith@aol.com, JoeS@aol.com but really his email is JoeSmith@yahoo.com. Now everytime I go to send this person an email, all 4 emails come up, the 3 in history, and the 1 in his contact information. When I type in J in the email recipient, all 4 come up, 3 say "history" next to the line of the email. I tried to add those emails into the contact, and then delete the emails, but that doesn't work.
I've went to yahoo to see if those contacts are showing up in history and they are not, so I know the historical email history is on the phone only. I haven't found a way to remove these items in history, but it's starting to cause problems because if I don't pay attention, I am choosing one of the wrong emails. Same thing is happening when I hit reply to ALL, 1 time about 2 months ago, and now i have about 40 emails in history and I don't even know who these people are, they are not in my contacts, and the phone is holding them hostage because I sent an email once. Does anyone know of a sure way to remove these historical emails?
If you don't know what I mean, give it a try, send an email to JOE@yahoo.com, and when you get it kicked back, the next time you try to send an email and hit "J", that JOE@yahoo.com will show up every single time, without fail. I've checked all historical settings on the phone, and even removed and re-added the yahoo account, but it does no good, the historical emails still stay in history. It's getting very annoying to have 45+ emails that you dont even know show up everytime you try to email someone something. Someone must have an answer for this, I can't be the only one that has sent the wrong email to someone.
Is there a way to delete email from the droid but have it stay in my gmail account? I want it to be how the blackberry is set up were it gives you the option to delete out of both phone and gmail account or delete from phone and stay in gmail account.

I have set up email accounts connecting to a google-hosted email account via IMAP. I am finding that when replying to a received email, my reply goes out with redundant repetitions of the email address on the "to" line. Example: Email from soandso@gmail.com arrives. I click "reply" on the phone and the reply goes out to soandso@gmail.com; soandso@gmail.com; soandso@gmail.com; soandso@gmail.com etc etc *10 times*, instead of just once. It also copies me about 10 times! Is anybody else seeing this? I use this for work emails, so it looks very unprofessional like I am trying to spam my clients! I have another couple of days before my 30-day return period is up, so hopefully someone else know how to fix this. Is there some setting I am overlooking?

When I use the default email client from captivate, even when I set the checking period as every 10mins, I won't get new emails unless I open the app and manually refresh, well, except the one of gmail. This happens on my yahoo email, hotmail and my school email, which all worked fine on my old iphone. People have talked about yahoo mails won't be accessible through wifi from Android, which happens on mine too. But even when I was at 3G, the email client won't auto check it either. I have tried K9 email client, it doesn't work either. The only thing I find work is the MailDriod, but the function of this app is very limited, it won't even open attachments by default. Does anyone else here have the same problem, or maybe an idea to fix the default email client?Also, I find when I use the ear set make calls, when I try to click the button on the ear set, it won't hang up the call as my iphone would. Is this a bug or just something Andriod can't do? The button on the ear set seems quite useless with Captivate, it can only control to play or pause by single click when play music, won't do song change when doule click it.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI remembered from my G1 days a way to sync the E-Mail app up to Yahoo's free (not PoP3) servers so I gave it try on my new BH2 and it works just fine:Here are the steps:
1. Enter Yahoo ID and Password (hint, just use your "username", not the whole joeblow@yahoo.com
2. Select Manual Setup
3. Setup IMAP
4. Incoming server is imap.mail.yahoo.com
5. Port is 143
6. Security Type is "TLS (if available)"
7. Leave IMAP path prefix blank
8. Hit next
9. SMTP Server is smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
10. Port is 25
11. Security is again TLS (if available)
12. Check Require sign-in
13. Verify username and password
14. enjoy
To Sync up, you CANNOT be on WiFi (dunno why, maybe Yahoo has a deal with T-Mobile?).One other note: if after rechecking all your settings and it still says "invalid username/password" try going onto your Yahoo Account and change your "Location" to ASIA ! Weird I know, but for some reason, some people can't get this to work with US-English as their Yahoo Locale (not talking about your phone's settings here, all on Yahoo site end!).
I have a pop 3 email account set up. When I delete and email it goes into the delete folder. Fine I get that. But is there a way to delete the contents of the delete folder? Is there a way to select multiple emails to delete at one time instead of doing 1 by 1?

View 27 Replies View RelatedSo my primary computer crashed and I had to reinstall all my programs and restore files from a backup. I had been syncing my Outlook calendar with my Gmail account using Google Calendar Sync which would then sync with my Captivate. When I reinstalled Outlook and synced with Gmail, it created duplicates of all my appointments. The only way to fix this was to delete all my appointments in Gmail and resync. Unfortunately, it didn't remove the duplicates from my phone. In fact, I have triplicates of many appointments. I thought I could just remove the Gmail account from my phone and add it back. Nope, my phone says that it's required by some programs and can only be removed through a factory reset. I thought that maybe I had to have a Gmail account on the phone for it to work so I added another one. I then attempted to delete the original. Nope, still wouldn't let me. Since that wasn't the problem I tried to delete the newly added account. Nope, no can do. So am I understanding correctly that there is no way to remove an account once it's been added without doing a factory reset?

I clicked on the email icon on the home screen, and it instantly brought me to a screen that asks me to enter my email address and account password. "You can configure email for most accounts in a few steps," it says. Lies! I've entered my info at least ten times now, double-checked every time, and every time it tells me that either my username or password are incorrect. I promise you this is not the case. I'm trying to configure a Yahoo account.
I tried to add the account manually and the phone says it can't connect to the server.
I want to delete the Gmail app because I hate it. For some reason emails sent to me have started appearing in Gmail and not in Samsung's regular email app. Why is that?
