Anyone notice that new emails take 2-3 minutes to show up? I thought it was supposed to be instant?Yahoo email doesn't update until you open the email app.

I remembered from my G1 days a way to sync the E-Mail app up to Yahoo's free (not PoP3) servers so I gave it try on my new BH2 and it works just fine:Here are the steps:
1. Enter Yahoo ID and Password (hint, just use your "username", not the whole joeblow@yahoo.com
2. Select Manual Setup
3. Setup IMAP
4. Incoming server is imap.mail.yahoo.com
5. Port is 143
6. Security Type is "TLS (if available)"
7. Leave IMAP path prefix blank
8. Hit next
9. SMTP Server is smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
10. Port is 25
11. Security is again TLS (if available)
12. Check Require sign-in
13. Verify username and password
14. enjoy
To Sync up, you CANNOT be on WiFi (dunno why, maybe Yahoo has a deal with T-Mobile?).One other note: if after rechecking all your settings and it still says "invalid username/password" try going onto your Yahoo Account and change your "Location" to ASIA ! Weird I know, but for some reason, some people can't get this to work with US-English as their Yahoo Locale (not talking about your phone's settings here, all on Yahoo site end!).
Anyone having a problem logging into the default mail client with a yahoo account. On my last Captivate it had no problem but on this new one it keeps saying that I put in a "incorrect" username/password.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded K9, having read on here what a good email program it is. I can't get the thing to work with my Yahoo.co.uk account. It's Pop 3. The account works ok with the standard HTC email program, but when I try to set it up using K9, I get "Setup could not finish Cannot connect to server (Unable to open connection to POP server)." I've googled it, I tried setting it up without using wifi, and tried changing settings to IMAP and port numbers, but just can't get anywhere with it.

I set them to 5 min update and still nothing. Anyone else have this problem? They will update if I manually hit update.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI'm a newbie to this forum, and hope someone can help. Have had the Captivate for almost a month now and am plagued by an annoying problem. I have set up email accounts connecting to a google-hosted email account via IMAP. I am finding that when replying to a received email, my reply goes out with redundant repetitions of the email address on the "to" line. Example: Email from soandso@gmail.com arrives. I click "reply" on the phone and the reply goes out to soandso@gmail.com; soandso@gmail.com; soandso@gmail.com; soandso@gmail.com etc etc *10 times*, instead of just once. It also copies me about 10 times! Is anybody else seeing this? I use this for work emails, so it looks very unprofessional like I am trying to spam my clients! I have another couple of days before my 30-day return period is up, so hopefully someone else know how to fix this. Is there some setting I am overlooking?

I've sent emails to myself and refreshed my inbox to test it out and haven't received any on my phone. I love this phone but my iPhone 3G was able to receive emails instantly. If somebody could help me I would really appreciate it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedLast night I recieved a text from AT&T telling me I have a software update and that I need to press "OK". Once the pop up showed I pressed "OK" and it downloaded the software and then the phone restarted. Now when I recieve e-mails, I do not get a notification to my cell phone. I have to press the Gmail icon and then refresh my email account to get the new emails. How do I go about fixing this? Its a Samsung Captivate.

When I use the default email client from captivate, even when I set the checking period as every 10mins, I won't get new emails unless I open the app and manually refresh, well, except the one of gmail. This happens on my yahoo email, hotmail and my school email, which all worked fine on my old iphone. People have talked about yahoo mails won't be accessible through wifi from Android, which happens on mine too. But even when I was at 3G, the email client won't auto check it either. I have tried K9 email client, it doesn't work either. The only thing I find work is the MailDriod, but the function of this app is very limited, it won't even open attachments by default. Does anyone else here have the same problem, or maybe an idea to fix the default email client?Also, I find when I use the ear set make calls, when I try to click the button on the ear set, it won't hang up the call as my iphone would. Is this a bug or just something Andriod can't do? The button on the ear set seems quite useless with Captivate, it can only control to play or pause by single click when play music, won't do song change when doule click it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just pulled the battery to do a reset last night after a lockup and today I'm getting notifications everytime I get a new email. it never used to do this and i figured it was just cause I didn't use the gmail. now I'm thinking that it just might be one of the background tasks that I was always killing. I recently switched to home++ and I didn't use the built in task killer all day. so I guess my question is, does anyone know which background task would control this so I don't kill it? also, is there a place to go in the settings to change the led color for email alerts?

I tried the following settings and it miraculously worked! I've been getting my Yahoo email on my Moment flawlessly for the past month: Go to manual setup > IMAP account and change to these settings....
INCOMING

OUTGOING

However, my Yahoo email just stopped working on my Moment yesterday (it won't load new emails into my inbox on my phone)! It keeps telling me "username or password incorrect".. WTH!
Is anyone else having this issue recently? Could this be a new change that Yahoo made?
Does anyone else have any ideas of what the next step could be to resolve this? I'll bet my turkey that if I called Sprint Tech Support they would refer me to Yahoo, and if I called Yahoo, they'd refer me to Sprint!
Also, if you are using the same settings that I've been using and it is still working okay for you, please be so kind as to advise- so I know that that setting above is still working, and it is more likely just an issue with my Sprint Account.
recommend an email client that requires you to put in your email account password each time you connect?I want to use it specifically for my banking and nothing else/no other email accounts.I don't really want the app to save my password, because I don't routinely password-protect my phone (too much hassle for too little benefit), and I want to know that my bank details/emails are safe if I ever lost my phone.

I use a hotmail account on my phone and I would like to know if the email can update itself, if I have to wait for 2.1 to have this problem resolved or if it's just something that I'm missing. View 1 Replies View RelatedI am currently using a x10i (x10?) on tmobile, i have the data plan ($10), and have my email connected via gmail. however, it seems like i have to do manual refresh in order to get email update. Is this normal or is there automatic feature that i must enable to have it alert me once an email is received?
Secondly, is it possible to set-up a third party email account, ex: Yahoo? I went through the notion of manually enter email account, but was unsucessful. It give me a msg that mailbox access is not supported for some tpes of yahoo mail accounts. Could this be an interference with gmail email, thus causing the problem? Even, using the manually setup option, it still fails to connect to my yahoo account.
Are there any external lights on the Captivate that let you know you have email or a message or battery charge is complete, etc?

I am really digging this phone and have no intentions of going back ever. I see the little indicator at the top of the phone but I wanted something more noticeable or annoying.is there anything better?Figured I would ask you folks what you use or recommend for this phone. I moved from an iphone to android and so far the os does not seem as intuitive as the iphone?

It's hard to see which email is new and which ones have been read already.I'd like to be able to see my gmail, and yahoo mail on one screen if possible. It would also be a plus if the icon would be in the dock and display how many unread emails i have.
