I get 2x notifications when I receive messages with Handcent. I assumed the stock sms app was also notifying, but I think I turned that one off. Still getting the 2x notification

Since I picked up my Captivate yesterday, I have been unable to send sms messages. I noticed under Messaging/Settings that the "Message Center" is not set. Could that be the problem? Could some of you take a look at what your "Message Center" is set to?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have had my captivate for a couple weeks now and everything has been great. All of a sudden today I stopped receiving text messages. I can send them just fine. Nothing incoming though. I checked the max per thread and all that stuff.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor the last few weeks when I get a text message or email I get the regular notification but also another/different "icon" for the same message; so I end up with two icons in my notification bar. And the only way the "new" icon can be cleared from my notification bar is if I physically pull down the bar and press clear (even if I've read the message it stays there until I clear it). It's starting to drive me crazy...my ringtone even goes off twice. Anyone have an idea on why this is happening? I don't have any third party message apps installed.

I downloaded Handcent and like it. I disabled the stock message app. Now when I get a new text message the same message is sent to me two times. I essentially get a duplicate of the same message. What should I do to stop this?

Both from Gmail just different looking screens. I usually get the outlined envelope in my notification bar but sometimes will get that and also the solid white envelope. Both are the same email just two different notifications. Doesn't happen all the time.

This is really annoying mainly because sometimes I've already read the message and replied or closed it, but now I have an annoying notification stuck there. Is anyone else experiencing this? Simple question but I can't figure it out.
I was wandering if anybody could help me with the email notification problem im currently having. Iphones and blackberrys all give you a notification when you receive a new email or a new facebook message. The galaxy s does nothing when you receive a new mail. In settings you can select a ringtone, set it to vibrate when you receive a message. But nothing happens. The only way to find out if there any new messages is by clicking on the email app ( in which i am using hotmail).

The stock messaging app won't stop notifications even if they're turned off...even if the app is deleted? If mms.apk is installed, it keeps notifying me even though it's notifications is turned off. If I remove mms.apk it keeps notifying me that I have 0 new messages. I've tried rebooting, reinstalling and removing. I'm running a sdx kitchen rom with meatkernel 2.0.9/no jit and I have ChompSMS installed. I don't understand how the app can keep notifying me if it's uninstalled? Other than this, the rom has been rock solid with good bat life, so I don't want to flash to stock and start all over for the 5th time this week.

This is the 2nd phone I've had because the other one was having "seizure like activity" and this is the new one I got yesterday and it STILL WILL NOT send picture messages. View 18 Replies View RelatedI'm going to post this here first as this may be Galaxy S specific. I have handcent installed and love it. It's been working great. However tonight when I went to test out sending a picture to my girlfriends phone she received two copies of it. It shows up on my screen as me sending one, but on hers as if i did it twice in a row. What I suspect is that Handcent is sending one and the default messaging app is sending the other. When I open up either of them they both show the thread and show 1 picture sent. I've looked through all the menus in both apps and can't figure out what the problem is.

So I just got off a half hour conversation with AT&T and We cant figure out for the life of the phone, why MMS messages cannot be sent. Although, when they did send me a small AT&T logo I did receive it. And When I sent that to myself, it did send and I received it again. I then took out my SIM and put it in my BlackBerry 9700 and MMS sent find and received fine. Any size picture. I then took a picture with the camera on the Captive in Fine, Normal and Super Fine. And each picture I tried to send to myself. Each said Compressing picture and when I go to send it, it stays on sending. That guy got so fed up he told me to Google it lol. So I did, and I see some others are having the same issue.

View 5 Replies View RelatedJust got my refurbished Captivate in the mail today, charged and activated it as per the instructions. It worked just fine for about 30 minutes or so. I put on a few apps and showed them off to my roommate, and things were going fine. Then all of a sudden I couldn't send or receive phone calls, nor was I able to get/send text messages. With no pattern or logic I would go from 3g to edge to neither of the two symbols (just full signal strength) to the international no sign where my full bars just were. If I typed and tried to send a text while the no sign was visible it would send and receive texts as soon as I got signal back, but that would only last a few minutes.
I've tried hard and soft resets and restoring the phone to factory settings, all to no avail, as well as checking my message center number. I've looked around in the forums and can't seem to find anyone who has had this problem, and I was hoping someone would have some advice or could point me to a thread that I may have missed. I'd talk to AT&T but chat hours are over and I have to be up early for work tomorrow and need my phone for that, so I'm not sure I can ask customer service tomorrow beforehand.
So recently I havE had people tell me they tried calling me but the phone never rang or said I missed a call. I get the voice mail if they leave one but no signs of then calling besides that. I love my captivate but I have trouble sending and receiving pic messages too. I've never had any other problems either. Anyone know what may cause this? If its the phone will they replace it for free?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy wife has noticed that when she does a text message, once it has gone over a certain character limit (which seems to be about 50 characters), when she hits send a message comes up saying 'Converting to MMS' (or something like that). On all our other phones, if you do a long text like this it just sends the message as mutliple texts instead of converting to mms.
What this means is that as it goes as mms instead of a text message, she gets charged for it (she gets unlimted texts on her plan, but this doesnt include mms).
Is this normal with the SGS, or is there a way to stop it converting to mms?
