I just saw my first review on the Epic for Sprint and saw that it has an LED flash and an LED indicator for missing calls, etc. Why would Samsung give Sprint users a better phone than us? I sure would have liked the LED's on my captivate. Man that makes me upset. Why wouldn't they have all the same features on every phone in the Galaxy series.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that the battery meter on my captivate (SRE + lagfix installed) is very inaccurate. For instance, I got the low battery notification and plugged my phone in when it got to 8%. However, the second I plug my phone in the battery meter jumps to 34. I unplugged it and sure enough, the battery stayed at 34%. Anyone having this problem?

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy Captivate was given to my as a company phone, but I have been told that they don't care what I do with it outside of 1 app, Good for Enterprise. (For those who don't know, this is an app that allows secure access to my company email and calendar. It requires the server admen to send me an invite with a PIN to register my device on the system before I can completely load it. I have already rooted the phone, but I would like to flash my ROM to get Froyo and maybe some additional features. Is there a way to flash my ROM without losing my apps? I know Google will re download everything to my phone, but I think this would force me to completely re-setup my Good for Enterprise which I don't want to do.

Sorry guys for hte noob question but I am new to custom roms and I am trying to avoid bricking my phone. I rooted the phone with OCLF and I want to give the cognition rom a try (I have create a backup of my current ROM with ROM Manager). However if I understand it right I need to flash my phone back to JF6? Can I install the ROM using CLockwork Recovery or do I have to use hte ODIN method? What is the difference? I understand that I can recover to stock using odin but I believe I should be able to recover to my stock rom using ROM Manager from the back?

If not: I strongly suggest we get a huge number of people to say they would be interested in buying a flashlight/camera flash add-on for the phone were someone to develop one. After we get a big enough number, we'll kindly forward it to several companies. I took my phone out last night for halloween, and was quite disappointed with the night quality. I'm sure something like this would be profitable at ~$6, but I would pay $10-15 to cover research costs/etc.
I used this method but altered a bit to install flash 10.1 for eclair and it is indeed working, here and there.
How To: Install Flash 10.1 On Android 2.1 Eclair Devices? It was a well understood myth that only Android 2.2 Froyo was capable enough to handle Flash 10.1. But now as the story unfolds, you can install Flash 10.1 onto your Android 2.1 Eclair powered handsets without any issues. The absence of a JIT compiler and other Froyo goodies might cause some performance issues, but in the end you will be able to surf Flash enabled websites without any problems.
Here is the step by step guide on how to get Flash 10.1 on your Android 2.1 Eclair geared phone:
The first step is to download flash_for_21.zip to your computer and extract the .apk file.
Now navigate to the market and install "Apps Installer" utility to your phone.
Now connect your Android phone to the computer and copy .apk file to your SD card. Make sure that it is in SD card root and not in a sub folder.
After this launch "Apps Installer" on your phone and follow the on screen instructions to install flash_for_21.apk file.
After installation is complete, simply reboot your phone and there you go! You now have Flash 10.1 on your phone.
This method has been tested and confirmed operational for Google Nexus One, Droid Eris and HTC EVO 4G on stock Android 2.1 Eclair.

The only difference is I used just the standard debug transfer to load it into my phone then used android centrals sideload wonder app to install it in debug mode.

Had to have enable plug ins turned on in the browsers settings, doesn't seem to work on all sites but some sites that did not work missing flash before are for sure working now.
Rooted Galaxy S captivate running eclair 2.1. Using skyfire or opera. dolphin seems ok also. Seems to get better results than standard browser. Some pages seems like it works others it doesn't. I used whatismyflash.com and it reports I am using 9. I don't get it.
Been to www.gizmodo.com and other sites to view videos but I end up with the flash logo instead. Is a setting that needs to be enabled? I was under the impression that the Captivate had flash light.

View 4 Replies View RelatedGot a UK purchased unlocked Galaxy S, which I'm using in mainland China on China Mobile with a China Mobile SIM. On the screen the roaming R indicator is on, by the signal strength. And going into the about the phone options does indeed indicate that it is roaming internationally, when in fact it's not, because of the China Mobile SIM working on that network. When I was using the phone in Hong Kong, I was using a 3 Hong Kong SIM and the Galaxy didn't indicate it was roaming at all. It did however show the R roaming indicator when I entered mainland China, Where the 3 HK SIM was working on the mainland Chinese networks, both China Mobile and China Unicom. It should not be showing roaming R though when it's using a China Mobile SIM on it's own network though, but it is. I've also tried the SIM in another phone, and this does not show it's roaming at all. Only when the SIM is in the Galaxy? The phone does dire warnings about incurring large data bills for data roaming, when it's not in fact data roaming.

On my old Windows Mobile phone I had an application(abcPowerMeter) which could show the current power consumption of the phone. Like this: If we can get this on the Galaxy, then it can be coupled with the existing battery status information to give a pretty good estimate of how long the battery is going to last under current load.Instead of showing a notoriously unreliable and counterintuitive green bar the phone would show something like this in the tray.

/system/framework/framework-res.apk/res/drawable/stat_sys_battery.xml
I could see that Samsung changed battery level thresholds compared to other Android releases (sources found on net). I have made a mod which changes the levels to the ones in the right column (source). Tested only on this 1.6 firmware: Baseband version I7500XXJB2, Build number Donut.XXJB6. Do not change /system/framework/framework-res.apk directly, the phone might not boot if it is not signed again after changing! Make all necessary backups!
You will need Metamorph to apply it, but since we have only 1.21 MB available on /system partition with this firmware, we will have to move Maps.apk to /data/app. The procedure (if you are not sure what each step does, do not proceed):
1. root the phone
2. copy busybox to /data/local/bin and give it execute permissions
3. install Metamorph from the Market
4. mount /system as RW (via "Root explorer", for example)
5. Run Metamorph. It will check for necessary files, and copy zip to /system/bin/zip. You can move it to /data/local/bin/zip to save some space on /system, and create symlink with this: ln -s /data/local/bin/zip /system/bin/zip
6. copy attached Galaxy-BatteryFix-v1.0.zip to /sdcard/AndroidThemes
7. move /system/app/Maps.apk to /data/app. It seems that Maps work fine from that location, after reboot.
8. apply theme from Metamorph
9. reboot
If you have problems with Metamorph and copying zip app, run this command:
ln -s /data/local/bin/busybox /system/bin/cp (after renaming /system/bin/cp to cp.old).
To restore the original, use Galaxy-BatteryFixRestore-v1.0.zip.
I seem to have disabled the battery percentage indicator that was previously displayed while the phone was charging. It used to say '95%. Charging' and now it says only 'Charging'. Does anyone know how to bring the percentage back? I have the H7 firmware.
