Samsung Vibrant :: Flash Support

Aug 22, 2010

One of the main reasons I went with a android phone instead of an iPhone is the flash support. But it seems my vibrant doesn't really have full flash support. I could not watch a "flip" video from my email. I got a flash media player error message. Is there anything I can do about this or just have to wait for android 2.2? Will froyo provide full flash support?

Android :: Check For GPS Support In-App / To Add Feature / Location Services Enabled?

May 24, 2010

How can I check for GPS support in-App to add a feature for those with Location services enabled? My concern is, I know I'd have to specify the tag in the manifest to declare that the app uses location services, but I still want the app to function for those without. I just want to check and, if the service is available, use it; otherwise just ignore that one feature.

Samsung Captivate :: Phone Support - S Family

Jul 24, 2010

That Samsung will actually support the Captivate because it is part of the Galaxy S family? It seems to me that this phone will not sell well on ATT, especially now that I've seen so many price drops, but because of the 5 different Galaxy S phones I imagine as a whole these phones will sell and that means good support.

Samsung Captivate :: Setting MP3's As Ringtones

Jul 25, 2010

Is anyone else having problems with setting MP3's as ringtones? I sure am! When I navigate to the MP3 that I want as my ringtone, I tap the menu button to find the "Set as" option, but that option seems to have been removed altogether! Am I missing something here, or have AT&T and/or Samsung decided that we're not allowed to set our personal MP3's as ringtones and therefore are forced to either do without, or buy them from wherever? Has anyone figured out a workaround and/or fix to this problem?

Samsung Captivate :: Setting Up Outgoing SMTP

Sep 2, 2010

My work email works great on my Captivate for incoming, but because of some weird settings at work, I cannot use the outgoing server. As a workaround, I want to set up my incoming as my work address, and then make my outgoing account on that email as a totally separate gmail account. This does not seem to work, so I created a separate account for my outgoing and that worked, but the problem with that is, when I try to "reply" to my incoming mail it does not work because the outgoing is set up on a separate email account rather than on the same one. Is there a way I can make my outgoing a completely separate SMTP than my incoming on the same account?

Samsung Captivate :: Setting Up Groups For Texts

Oct 16, 2010

I did a search on this and found some posts on it but the wording was a bit different and there didn't seem to be any solutions. On my Captivate, I have all my contacts synced from my pc's google account. So when I click on Phone, Contacts, all my contacts have the google logo next to the phone number. When I click on Groups, it shows Family, Friends, Google, etc. It has zero contacts in all groups except for 30 contacts in my Google groups. (which is all the contacts I have in my phone.)On my friends Captivate, he doesn't have his contacts synced from Google. He goes into his Contacts, Groups and can click on Family or Friends and can add people from his contacts to the Family or Friends group. I can't do this cause all my contacts are synced from Google. Is there a work around for this? Hope I made sense to someone.

It requires the server admen to send me an invite with a PIN to register my device on the system before I can completely load it. I have already rooted the phone, but I would like to flash my ROM to get Froyo and maybe some additional features. Is there a way to flash my ROM without losing my apps? Samsung Captivate :: USB Flashlight / Camera Flash Add-On

Oct 31, 2010

First, is there a good reason the captivate does not have a camera flash (aside from the devs thinking the night mode worked 'well enough')?
If not: I strongly suggest we get a huge number of people to say they would be interested in buying a flashlight/camera flash add-on for the phone were someone to develop one. After we get a big enough number, we'll kindly forward it to several companies. I took my phone out last night for halloween, and was quite disappointed with the night quality. I'm sure something like this would be profitable at ~$6, but I would pay $10-15 to cover research costs/etc.

Samsung Captivate :: Flash 10.1 Working On 2.1 Eclair?

Aug 19, 2010

I used this method but altered a bit to install flash 10.1 for eclair and it is indeed working, here and there.
How To: Install Flash 10.1 On Android 2.1 Eclair Devices? It was a well understood myth that only Android 2.2 Froyo was capable enough to handle Flash 10.1. But now as the story unfolds, you can install Flash 10.1 onto your Android 2.1 Eclair powered handsets without any issues. The absence of a JIT compiler and other Froyo goodies might cause some performance issues, but in the end you will be able to surf Flash enabled websites without any problems.

Here is the step by step guide on how to get Flash 10.1 on your Android 2.1 Eclair geared phone:
The first step is to download flash_for_21.zip to your computer and extract the .apk file.
Now navigate to the market and install "Apps Installer" utility to your phone.
Now connect your Android phone to the computer and copy .apk file to your SD card. Make sure that it is in SD card root and not in a sub folder.
After this launch "Apps Installer" on your phone and follow the on screen instructions to install flash_for_21.apk file.
After installation is complete, simply reboot your phone and there you go! You now have Flash 10.1 on your phone.
This method has been tested and confirmed operational for Google Nexus One, Droid Eris and HTC EVO 4G on stock Android 2.1 Eclair.

The apk download
http://www.addictivetips.com/wp-content/uploads/android/apps/flash_for_21.zip
The only difference is I used just the standard debug transfer to load it into my phone then used android centrals sideload wonder app to install it in debug mode.
The Android Central Sideload Wonder Machine - Android Forums
Had to have enable plug ins turned on in the browsers settings, doesn't seem to work on all sites but some sites that did not work missing flash before are for sure working now.
Rooted Galaxy S captivate running eclair 2.1. Using skyfire or opera. dolphin seems ok also. Seems to get better results than standard browser. Some pages seems like it works others it doesn't. I used whatismyflash.com and it reports I am using 9. I don't get it.
