Samsung Captivate :: Can I Determine Build Date By Box / Know About IEMI Breakdown
Aug 2, 2010
I'm going to exchange my Cappy at bestbuy today. I had 100% battery when I woke up, make an 3 min call, browsed for about 15 minutes and I'm down to 70%. I normally have to charge it 2 or more times a day. The battery usage thing shows display using 70%. That seems a bit high. Its on its lowest brightness setting too
Then the GPS thing. it would be nice if that worked. I'm going to love this phone one way or another!
My phone was built on 7/10/2010, the battery was 7/4/2010. Is there an easy way to tell if its a newer build or not? Does anyone know the IEMI breakdown?

like title states, post your build date and the experience you are having with it. I have had 2 10.07's and they both have had issues.

So I am on the 2gb/month plan and I was wondering if there was a way with the Cappy to determine how much data you are using per month.

By any means, programmatically can I get the install date & time of the already installed apps on the android device. The ApplicationInfo doesn't provide this info. While digging through the /data folder through the DDMS perspective, I saw the installed apk's do contains the Date & time of when it was installed, but the sad part is that this /data folder is not accessible on the device programmatically.

With all the talk around the forums about the captivate's materials and build, has anyone actually broken one? Has anyone exerted substantial strain on the phone without breaking it? Tell you're story. Maybe we can lay the issue to rest. My thoughts are that if it feels flimsy, but hasn't had major issues with fragility, who cares what it feels like!

I know how to get the API level, android.os.Build.VERSION.SDK_INT, but there are also several revisions of each level release, e.g. for 2.1 there's rev 1 and 2. How do I determine the revision of a build?
The reason i'd like to know this is that I have a workaround for a bug in Android 2.1 (and 2.2), and this workaround will break the moment the corresponding bug is fixed. So right now i'm in the odd position of hoping that the bug won't be fixed (at least not until I can find an answer to above question).

Build date is found on the inside of the back cover. Mine reads "DT10.04.26" I have a Version 2 Not exactly sure what the DT means, but the other numbers mean it was manufactured on 4/26/10. The DT could be the place of manufacturing? Or the line. Is anyone's different? This Poll is to try and figure out when the version 2 ended, and the version 3 began. It is also to figure out when the screen change was. HOW TO FIND YOUR 003 SCREEN TYPE: [Tutorial] How to check your 003 screen type... - PPCGeeks Quote:

Just curious what the bugs are that everyone talks about with 2.2
The only bug I notice is when I disable BT it mentions something about a SIM card.

I have come to the conclusion that vzw aborted the ota on the 1st 2.2, and not many people have gotten it. It seems at least on this forum that everyone has 2.2 via a forced update. Very few people have chimed in that they got a ota. However, given that vzw is releasing the droid2 on Thu the 12th, I would think that this is going to have the newest froyo, not the version released ota that everyone forced with. Correct thinking?
If that is also true, then shouldn't we be seing something coming out ota for us 2.1 droid 1 users very shortly? anyone have any dates?

Are there statistics as to what percentage of users are using a screen resolution. I am looking for something like the platform versions breakdown Google provided a few months ago. What I am wondering is if its worth the extra effort to ensure proper display of my apps in QVGA or other odd resolutions.

We've all heard the horror stories (I just bought my Desire and the battery lasts for about 4 hours!) and the fanboy wankery (I get at least 3 days of heavy use!) So today I unplugged my Desire at about 6am and set off for work. It's 7pmish now and here's some stuff you may like to look at. I have 3G disabled, Sync on manual, no "live" widgets (just WiFi and bluetooth) live wallpaper (nexus) and screen brightness on auto. Here's the battery status (rounded up from 25% according to Battery Info in the Testing app)
The breakdown of usage:
My phone was idle for 9 hours and 45 mins:
The Display was on for a mere 2hours and 46 mins
With only 1.5 hours of WiFi:
And 30 mins of calls:
So, that'll be less than 3 hours of usage.

Does anyone know of a way of viewing a breakdown of phone memory usage? If it starts getting full (which presumably won't take long given the measly amount we have to begin with) I'll want to know what to delete or trim to free up space.
SMS messages are stored on the phone memory, aren't they?

i went back to the store to do a refund (LOVE the vibrant but honestly cannot handle with all my freezing, slowlyness, black screens, etc... anymore).the guy there told me there is no better phone for me and he can refund me but don't think it's a good decision for me (i know the guy so i don't think about salesman-customer bulls**ts) and here on some thread i read that after getting a new device some of the problem users had, have been gone.so i think the best way for me to make this decision is to make sure the new unit the store can give me is really newer than mine and not the same.

I downloaded the Android 2.2 source code and try to build it. When I executed the make command, I got an error here like this build/core/java.mk:20: *** frameworks/ex/common: Invalid LOCAL_SDK_VERSION '8' Choices are: current 4 5 6 7. Stop. Then I changed the frameworks/ex/common/Android.mk to LOCAL_SDK_VERSION = 8 from LOCAL_SDK_VERSION = 7. Next place, build/core/java.mk:20: *** external/jsr305: Invalid LOCAL_SDK_VERSION '8' Choices are: current 4 5 6 7. Stop. I changed the external/jsr305/Android.mk to LOCAL_SDK_VERSION = 8 from LOCAL_SDK_VERSION = 7
Last one, build/core/java.mk:20: *** external/guava: Invalid LOCAL_SDK_VERSION '8' Choices are: current 4 5 6 7. Stop. I changed the external/guava/Android.mk to LOCAL_SDK_VERSION = 8 from LOCAL_SDK_VERSION = 7
By these changes the code started the compilation.
1. Why the error occured?
2. Changes which I did is correct or not?

Thought it would be best to create a single thread that has a list of all the fixes we have got for the moment so people don't continue to say it is "broken" (note all fixes including using zefs 8.3 kernel and modification of the CL14 OS/modem file): 1) Network Location works great now (it might put you a little away from your "actual" location (by a couple hundred feet maybe) but it still puts you almost were you are really located, and since we use this for "general approximation" of location (gps is the only way to get a reliable location fix) i will say it is working 100% (note this is with gps and wifi turned off. so we know it is actually fixed) 2) Optimization of the kernel allows it to actually use the processing power of the S3C6410 Chipset instead of using generic drivers. this means it is actually meant for the phone and works much faster. 3) Battery meter has been optimized to give 5% reporting levels and adjusted to semi-accurately monitor battery against known calibration curve of the battery (based off of Behold II battery code which uses the same battery). No longer drops you to 15% within 2 hours and turns off most functionality. 4) e911 in pattern lock mode now pulls up a dialer that only allows you to call 911 instead of automatically calling the minute you hit the button 5) reports of pandora/slacker/other streaming programs not having the same stutter starts. 6) keyboard lag has gotta incredibly better.

When setting on a repeating event on the phone, is there a way to set an end date. I want to set-up an appointment that occurs daily for the next 5 days. I know I can do it on-line, but I don't see how to set the number of occurences or the "repeat until" date on the phone.

Let me begin by saying that I will be purchasing an EPIC 4G on release day (whenever that may be) no matter when it is Now to my point, the lack of information and outright secrecy being employed by Sprint regarding the release of the EPIC 4G is downright moronic and piss-poor marketing. I know that some mindless idiots will say "oh see, see.... the fact that you are talking about the EPIC proves their strategy is working!" Well, I say BOLLOCKS! his isn't creating hype or excitement, all this is doing is pissing people off and causing Sprint to lose more and more potential new customers to VZW and ATT. I mean, there are some powerhouse devices (Droid 2, BB Torch, iPhone 4) that are going to be readily available apparently before we will even know for sure when the EPIC will even be released! If Sprint wants/expects people to wait for an EPIC, then they need to tell us when it will actually be available.
