Samsung Captivate :: Can I Determine Build Date By Box / Know About IEMI Breakdown
Aug 2, 2010I'm going to exchange my Cappy at bestbuy today. I had 100% battery when I woke up, make an 3 min call, browsed for about 15 minutes and I'm down to 70%. I normally have to charge it 2 or more times a day. The battery usage thing shows display using 70%. That seems a bit high. Its on its lowest brightness setting too
Then the GPS thing. it would be nice if that worked. I'm going to love this phone one way or another!
My phone was built on 7/10/2010, the battery was 7/4/2010. Is there an easy way to tell if its a newer build or not? Does anyone know the IEMI breakdown?
Samsung EPIC 4G :: Epic Or Evo - Call Quality
Nov 21, 2010So I've been on the fence regarding the Epic or Evo for awhile now and have been going back and forth. Overall, I think the specs of the Epic win-out but the support (both HTC and community) for Evo is far superior. All of the debates about hardware and I havn't been able to find any real comparison regarding call quality. Since I actually plan to talk on the phone, what do those of you have one or the other or both have to say about sound/call quality? Ultimately, I think this will be the most important factor in my decision.

Apr 30, 2010Dose anyone have any thoughts about the build quality of this phone? I love the specs of this phone, but I am worried that it will fell to much plastic? More than the iphone 3g/s? It's nice that this phone is so light, but I personal think that that can contribute to a poor build quality. Every time I play with the HTC desire, I always is amassed how solid it feels.

Nov 10, 2010I have an upgrade available atm and I can't decide if I should wait or not. I currently have a Droid 1 rooted/OC'd. My options are either the Fascinate or wait till Jan-Feb. I have zero interest in the X, and can't see "upgrading" to the D2 or the Incredible.
It is probably meaningless to ask the Fascinate community because, like the D1 community, you're probably all biased..but how are you liking your Fascinates? Would you upgrade to it today if you had the choice? What's the highest achievable clock speed to date (stable)? How is audio quality, I've heard of speaker crackling when at max volume?
Samsung EPIC 4G :: Way To Get HD Quality
Sep 6, 2010Okay, so I know that the Epic doesn't have Youtube HD, but is there any way to get HD quality (by using something other than the youtube app maybe?). Also, we noticed when watching some youtube vids (in the store) that the video doesn't fill the screen either. Is there a setting to change this or is that as good as it gets on the Epic? My wife was pretty disappointed with the lack of HD and the picture size (I'm not as fussed about it, so I really asking for her sake).

Aug 6, 2010Let me begin by saying that I will be purchasing an EPIC 4G on release day (whenever that may be) no matter when it is Now to my point, the lack of information and outright secrecy being employed by Sprint regarding the release of the EPIC 4G is downright moronic and piss-poor marketing. I know that some mindless idiots will say "oh see, see.... the fact that you are talking about the EPIC proves their strategy is working!" Well, I say BOLLOCKS! his isn't creating hype or excitement, all this is doing is pissing people off and causing Sprint to lose more and more potential new customers to VZW and ATT. I mean, there are some powerhouse devices (Droid 2, BB Torch, iPhone 4) that are going to be readily available apparently before we will even know for sure when the EPIC will even be released! If Sprint wants/expects people to wait for an EPIC, then they need to tell us when it will actually be available.

Oct 8, 2010I converted a movie avi file to mp4 using the free "any video converter". As the converter's website recommends, I set the frame to 1280x720. But when watching the movie, they're is some chopiness and the quality is not as good like when watching a you tube clip in hd. Is there anything I can do to increase the video quality?

Sep 16, 2010Does anyone else get bad quality at medium to higher volumes through normal calls (not speakerphone). Anything over two notches from muted gives me a wierd vibrating noise when the other end is talking semi high pitched and consistently. It sounds almost robotic or like paper. I didnt know if this was just my phone, the majority, or all epics suffer from this problem.

Sep 1, 2010I don't own an Epic but have thought about jumping from verizon to sprint for their superior 3G coverage in my area. The only phone that interests me is the Epic so I have been reading a lot of forums and reviews. I have heard that the Samsung is supposed to have great quality through the 3.5mm(I think because of some pre-amp or dedicated part of the processor. I'm no expert and cant remember what I read and where).
I haven't really seen to many comments about the audio quality from the 3.5mm headset jack and also the exterior speaker loudness and quality. Coming from the Original Moto Droid it has the best external speaker on any other phone I've owned thus far but sub-par 3.5mm headset jack quality/loudness. Can anybody give me some of their personal opinions on how they think the Epic external speaker matches up to the original Moto Droid and how about the quality/loudness out of the 3.5mm.

Sep 17, 2010Anyone else having issues with the volume and or quality of visual voicemail? I can hardly hear any of my messages when using visual Voice Mail. However if I call my voicemail, volume and quality are fine. Obviously something is getting lost when your voice mail is getting routed through a data connection.

Sep 2, 2010I thought my Palm Pre had excellent sound quality. But the Epic sound is phenomenal. I talk with my girlfriend every night and last night I heard tons of background noise from her 10 year old cordless phone.
I never heard any of it before. I actually thought I might have a defective Epic,but today I made other calls and the Epic is outstanding. Actually every aspect of the phone is outstanding.

Sep 2, 2010This is for anyone who links their facebook contacts with phone contacts.I set this up yesterday and it works great the problem i have is when i get an incoming call there picture pops up but the image quality is so horrible you can't even tell what it is. I am used to my Hero showing a really good version of there facebook pic. does anyone know how to fix this. i want to use the facebook pics for my contacts but they just look horrible.

Nov 17, 2010I recently took my Epic to a concert and recorded some videos. The picture quality of the videos was OK but the audio was amazingly distorted. There was a lot of bass at the concert which greatly I assume distorted the entire videos sound. I am greatly disappointed as I cannot listen to the songs cuz the sound so bad! Is that normal?

Sep 4, 2010I have the external speaker (the one on the bottom rear of the phone) volume set to MAX but for use as hands free in the car, I found the volume to be tinny and not nearly loud enough. My guess is that there aren't any settings I'm missing.

Sep 9, 2010Sort of two things which might be related. I've been having call quality issues with this phone since I got it. I thought it sounded very electronic and could hardly stay on the phone. Took it to a Sprint store and they did a soft reset and said they couldn't duplicate the issue. I made some calls, some said it sounded better. As long as I have the volume turned down it seems to be okay. But then it's hard to hear what they are saying. If I turn up the volume it sounds like someone is yelling too loudly too close to a microphone. Like bad speakers rattling or something (especially with "s" sounds).
On my headset which was $100 and worked so well on my old phone (people couldn't even tell I was on a headset) the person on the other side either says it's "okay" or says they can definitely tell I'm distant, to one friend saying it was "awful." When listening to Visual Voice Mail it's awful sound, regardless of the volume. Want to try to get a new phone, but then worried I'll have one of the other issues everyone else is having (WiFi or GPS or whatever).
Samsung Epic 4G :: Voice Quality When Played Back Sucks
Sep 5, 2010I downloaded Voice Recorder and it seems to work fine, expect for one thing, the voice quality when played back sucks! My old Samsung Sync was so much easier to understand, when playing back voice recorded messages. The Epic has a lot of hiss and scratchiness to it. I hope that's not what other people are hearing on the other end of our conversations. Anyone else have similar results using Voice Recorder, or comments from people their talking to? Could the lousy quality be because of the app, or the Epic's mic?

Aug 10, 2010I have come to the conclusion that vzw aborted the ota on the 1st 2.2, and not many people have gotten it. It seems at least on this forum that everyone has 2.2 via a forced update. Very few people have chimed in that they got a ota.However, given that vzw is releasing the droid2 on Thu the 12th, I would think that this is going to have the newest froyo, not the version released ota that everyone forced with. Correct thinking?
If that is also true, then shouldn't we be seing something coming out ota for us 2.1 droid 1 users very shortly? anyone have any dates?

May 31, 2010Is it just me? or the kickstand in the video looks pretty roughed up? Because the material on the kick stand is easily scratched? I can't imagine this guy (Phil Nickinson) has had the phone for long, wonder how he manged to do that.

Jun 10, 2010Light leak around front casing, dust issues. The build quality sucks, I have dust under the glass in the upper left corner. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that HTC can't place a priority on build quality. I traded my Hero with dust for an Evo with dust. Oh the joy. It's really no surprise, if light escapes from the sides, why wouldn't dust enter through the same area.
Before you reply with 'I don't have dust,' make sure you examine very very closely, with a very bright light to be sure. I was the first on this forum to call attention to the Hero's dust issue, and was greatly flamed for it at first, too. The phone's haven't even been out a week, so this issues will not be very noticeable yet (as with the Hero) but will become accepted as fact soon enough.

Jul 14, 2010I am planning on importing HTC's next phone to come to Europe (HTC Ace?) and I am a little worried about HTC's build quality on a lot of their phones. The nexus one has this issue where dust gets under the screen, the EVO has a problem with light leaking out the bottom, and I've read about the Incredible feels very plasticy. I've seen many threads where people complain about HTC's quality assurance too and this makes me a little nervous because if I am planning on shipping from abroad, I don't want to have to return it if something goes wrong and be forced to wait weeks to months for a replacement. What do u think of HTC's build quality on their phones? Is it that much worse than Moto and Apple's?

Jul 5, 2010This is a question to all the longer term users of the phone. I've had several phones before, all new and shiny in the beginning but before too long their facade starts to come off. Finishing, body, etc. How good is the desire in this respect?
- How many nicks have you got on yours? Does it get scratched easily? I mean the touchscreen as well as the body.
- Does the body colour come off easily?
- Are there any parts of the phone where dust accumulates?
- Does the battery cover show signs of becoming loose?
- Do the volume rocker keys become loose?
Can the phone take a couple of falls? I've been handling my Desire like my own baby but it's only a matter of time before it slips from my hands I feel. Also I simply love the look of the phone, and don't want to put on a silicone or a body shield but if it's really necessary I shall.

May 14, 2010Anyone read impressions regarding build quality? I have the Incredible now and I'm thinking about the Evo and Sprint. One thing that I dislike about the Incredible is the build quality. It is not bad build quality at all but it is a little more plasticky than I would like. The glass also feels very flimsy. Are they using Gorilla Glass on the Evo?
