Just got my X today and I'm having a problem. When someone calls me, before the ringtone, a female voice announces "Verizon Wireless!," and then it proceeds to the ring.
It's obnoxious as hell. Anyone know how to turn that "feature" off?

How do I get rid of the ring notification that announces "Verizon Wireless" before sending or receiving any calls. I am going crazy knowing it has to be something silly.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought my Droid on line via Phandroid/Verizon Wireless just after midnight on Friday and filled out all the info, picked a Verizon plan, gave them my current cell number (which is an AT&T Mobile number) and checked the boxes that said "yes, please port my old number on to my new Verizon phone".
So I get the phone today (superfast -- I hadn't even paid for overnight delivery). But when I follow the instructions to activate, the activation fails. I touch the Droid on the touchscreen, it brings up the phone, I follow the voice prompts and dial my cell number, but it doesn't work.
Spoke with a VW customer service rep (late night Saturday night). He gave me a different customer service # to call on Sunday for help with "porting."
I sure hope I get this straightened out quickly. Maybe I should've just bought the Droid at a Verizon store and let the VW store guys activate it for me.
The VW customer service rep was saying I should see a "temporary Verizon cell #" somewhere on my receipt or packing slip. But there isn't any. Just the mobile # that I'm trying to port over from AT&T.
Did I do something wrong when I ordered the phone? Or is it normal for there to be a delay in getting the old # ported?
I can't figure out how to get the "Verizon Wireless" audio out of my ringtones. The ring starts out by saying "Verizon Wireless" then the ringtone, and it repeats...

I can't find it in the manual or online.
I realize that wireless tether internet doesn't work while while you're on a call, but what if you use Google Voice to place a call? Shouldn't the internet work since you are not using 3g? I tried it, but my internet still did not work. Anyone else try this and get it to work? Is there any way to be online (wireless tether) and on a call at the same time?

This is very annoying and I can't seem to figure out how to turn it off. Changing ring tones and such does not work, still says "Verizon Wireless". Is there anyway to turn this off?

Nothing's official yet, at least about what the conference concerns, but two different sources have said this so it looks like it's true. If it is about the iPhone hitting Verizon, they may still weasel in some small tidbits about other stuff, Android included.

View 14 Replies View RelatedFor some strange reason I can't seem to set-up my personal e-mail account on this Droid phone. I click on "e-mail", I type in my e-mail address and my password, and then I click "next". And then I get a message that says my username and/or password does not match. But I am positive it does, as I have gone online to test it. I have tried retyping my username and passwrod over and over again without any success. I can't get passed that screen.
I have Verizon FiOS at my house, so my e-mail is set-up through Verizon/Yahoo.
I got a Google Voice invite about a week ago, and while I mainly just wanted the voicemail perks, I went for the new number, just so I could have all the bells and whistles when I eventually need them.
In the meantime, however, rather than let the account sit idle, I really wanted to figure out how to use the Voice visual voicemail for my Verizon line. I was on an iPhone for almost two years--I'm never going to go without visual voicemail again. But I'm not paying Verizon for it, the third-party apps I've tried all had enough annoying traits to drive me away, and hot damn, inaccurate as it may be, I want voicemail transcription if only for the comedic benefits of reading the mad-lib transcriptions of friends' voicemails.
So, anyway, I finally stumbled across this post on the Google forums, giving a step-by-step procedure to redirect your missed/ignored/busy calls to your google voice account. (Basically, you make three calls using prefixes and your google voice number to set the redirects... the instructions also include all of the codes to undo all the redirects if/when you decide to go back to normal.) I tried it out, it took all 60 seconds to set up, and it works beautifully.
Depending on how your voice account is set up, you may need to adjust some settings (so you don't get an email, text, AND google voice notification every time you get a voicemail, which I quickly discovered was quite annoying).
Again, this only works if you have a Google Voice account, with a new number (but then, if you got GV for an existing number, you wouldn't have to go through all this).
Verizon Wireless tones say I have no memory to download a ringtone. Yet, I have more than plenty. Anyone downloaded any ringtones from there? Or any idea of how to get different ringtones?

I would like to remove the text "Verizon Wireless" from my pattern lock screen and replace it with my name.
When I rooted my HTC Eris and loaded KoasFroyo I encountered a similar situation where that ROM made it say Team AndIRC. I was able to do what I wanted by replacing eri.xml.
When I try to use ADB to push that same eri.xml file to my Fascinate I get an access denied error. Can anyone tell me how to do this? Any guidance would be appreciated. Since the phone is locked I want my name available on the front in case it is ever lost.
So I would like for my Google Voice number to ring differently than my regular carrier number. I give out the GV number for business use and my regular one for personal/friend use.
So does anyone know if it's possible to have a separate ringtone? I see under the GV settings area "Sync and notfications - Select Ringtone" but it doesn't appear to work when I call the number. Any ideas?
(I'm on android 2.1 if that matters.)
After I did the update my phone doesnt ring it goes straight to voice mail very annoying. I checked my settings and didn't see anything wrong.also when I call someone sometimes it doesnt ring and all I get is their voice mail anybody got anything?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI received the OTA 4.4.2 update earlier this week, and now the Bluetooth voice dialer has gone full retarded. If say "call Susan mobile", it responds, "did you say call Susan work mobile". what combination of words I use it never give me the correct option. If I answer yes at any of the suggested options, it invariably responds "no entry, try again", because, of course, there is not "work mobile" entry. I never had this problem prior to the update. The only work-around that works is storing the number is a speed dial number and using "speed dial 2" as a voice command, and it will successfully dial that speed dial number. But, of course, I can't put everybody in my contacts list into a speed dial number, and even if I could, I wouldn't e able to remember everyone's speed dial number.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running the original Motorola Droid with Android v2.2.I'm sure this has been brought up in the past, but I've searched and can't find any real good answers.I've had Google Voice for about a year now on my Droid.Here are some concerns I have:
1) It uses anytime minutes when someone is leaving a message.
2) Often it doesn't know when the caller has hung up and eats up additional minutes recording only silence.
3) With the in-call volume maxed out I can barely hear the voicemail through the handset speaker.
For a couple months last year I had Verizon Visual Voicemail and these were the concerns I had:
1) It costs $2.99/month (but doesn't use anytime minutes)
2) Like Google Voice, with the in-call volume maxed out I can barely hear the voicemail through the handset speaker.
3) Notification of voicemails was nowhere near as quick as regular voicemail or Google Voice.
My biggest question right now for both of them- Is there any way to get the in-call volume fixed when listening to messages? Anyone else having these issues?It's important for me that voicemail volume is good and notification is quick. I can't seem to find a visual voicemail option that hits all the nails on the head.
I was having some issues with Google Voice (people saying that they didn't always get my voicemail or sometimes it was some automated thing instead of my Google Voice message). I can't afford not getting my voice messages so I want to switch back. However, now whenever I get a voicemail it shows up in my notification bar and I click on the notification and it automatically calls a google voice number. However, when I enter my pin it says I have no messages. So I'm assuming they are on my Verizon Voicemail. But I can't get to them. I finally figured out that in settings you have to then go to the Call menu and change the Voicemail Service back to "My carrier" from Google Voice. But then the Voicemail Number stills shows as the google voice number.What is the number to change it to for Verizon Voicemail? Will that take care of it and allow me to check the 3 unheard messages and then get all of my messages from here on out?

View 20 Replies View RelatedI have my DX paired to a motorcycle helmet bluetooth headset (Cardo Scala G4). It's setup on the A2DP profile. It plays music just fine, as well as makes and receives calls. The problem is that when I have an incoming call, my headset does not ring at all. The only thing that happens is, if I'm playing music, the music stops.
I've scoured the internet and cannot find any resolution. I know that it's the phone (and not the headset) because when I pair the headset to my wife's LG Dare, it rings through the headset speakers perfectly. This is a major problem, and I'm hoping that there IS a way to overcome this.
How do you set a ring tone for a contact. I know how to do it on and eris but cant figger out how to do on the x.
