I'm not understanding why some apps (even those that haven't been run or aren't running) can't be moved to the SD, while others can. Of the 50 or so apps on my phone, it seemed that 80% of them had the "Move to SD" grayed out. Anyone know why?

Of all the apps on my Droid, I only found 15 that could be moved. For testing I moved 1.. but where did it go? I expected to find it in a new directory or as an apk at the root of the SD card. No such luck. Any ideas?

View 12 Replies View Relatedi decided to download a bunch of games, i never used enough applications to need to move them to my sd, but since i downloaded a lot of them some started to get installed to the sd and i manually moved some of them too to the sd card. But while i was still downloading more apps, some of them started to show the android icon, and when i tried to run them they crashed. The weird part is that it was just some of them.
phone to reload and see the apps, but that just made it worst since those, and some others went totally missing from the drawer. Is not because the launcher loads before the sd card is read because i already checked that.So i went to settings>applications and discovered that all those applications are listed there but listed with their other name (dont know how to call it, but is like "com.developer.app" ). All of the missing apps are like that and i cant run them.
- I have formatted the sd using gparted, same behavior
- I have formatted the sd and the internal (sd?) with the phone
- I have done a factory reset with no luck
- I have runned fsck in both internal and external sd's
- The files of the applications are in the .android_secure folder in the external sd card "app.asec"
- The sd card is working (files music, everything else is working)
- I dont know what else to do, I want to be able to use my sd card to install apps
I recently got the app, Advanced SD card something. IDK the full name but searching Advanced SD will find it.Anyway, I turn on my phone after moving all my apps to my SD card, and many, if not most, are all missing. Like, my home screen has the empty boxes as my apps icons and I go to that app menu thing and they are missing. I try to find them but I cannot. I try to re-install them but I cannot.

I know you can't install Game Apps directly to an external SD Card but can the Games be moved to the SD Card from the Tablet's on board storage so I can free up storage space then later on move the Game Apps from the SD Card back to the Tablet's onboard storage? View 6 Replies View RelatedSo with the last few ROMs I've had installed, I've tried moving apps to the sdcard. I figured it would be a good thing, even if I wasn't running out of room. Every time I move more than just a few apps to the sdcard, my whole phone starts getting laggy. I just moved all of my apps back to phone and the "lagginess" is gone. I currently have UD8.0 installed, but it has behaved this way with LFY and Pete's BB ROMs as well. So it doesn't seem to be a ROM related.

As an example, install alchemy today:
Space according to market = 2.08MB
Without running, app manager space reported = 2.35MB
Move to SD
Space reported = 276KB
I haven't done any kind of detailed research so I'm not sure why this is but would make a guess at the install/temp files being disposed of when they move...?? Makes sense to me, all apps still work fine but take up much less space.

I'm having problems trying to use files after moving them.
Example:
I took a bunch of pictures at an event, the created a folder for that event and moved the pictures into it. I can still open the pictures one at a tiem by navigsting too them, but the galleary app still shows the thumbs, but cannot find them.
Example 2:
I downloaded an mp3 for a ring tone, and while in the downloads folder the music player found it and I was able to set it at a ring tone. But I tried to create a ringtones folder, and then music could not find it, and just playing it by opening the file would not allow me to set a ring tone.
So how does this work? I have seen references here to folders called Media and ring tones, but I see nothing like that in the file system on my phone. Where does one put music if they want to actually use the music player?
Is the DCIM folder the ONLY one that works with the photo gallery? Is the Downloads folder the ONLY one that works with the music player?
So how do you make them not visible, cause the two pages of moved in the Droid section is annoying.

I try to scroll over it moves back I press the home button and it does the same thing. I've tried powering down taking the battery put nothing seem to work.

He claims that whenever he call a contact, the actual contact is no longer available in the contact list but is instead moved over to the recent calls list. I told him that I believe that the recent call list only shows recent call and that the contact should to be found in proper order on the Contact list. Having no actual experience with this phone, I'm just looking for clarification. Does a recently called contact have to be found in the recent call list? If not, what may my customer be confused by? But let's be honest at the end of the day it's really not true, and now coming from being a previous iPhone owner and now a Droid owner i can honestly say, the iPhone app market wins by a TON.
This is just a general QUALITY of apps comparison as well.

Things i'm curious about-
Is programming in android worse then in the iPhone OS? is that why apps are WAY less in quality?
And you can't give the excuse that it's because things are new, when the iPhone market came out the apps were quality at day 1, many of them were.
So what's the difference? i guess software...
Well i'm sticking with android even though this exists.. in hopes that maybe future Android OS updates and SDK's will improve this very obvious difference.. right now i'm not impressed at all... the apps are all Slow, and they look horrible.
And for twitter? holy crap... iPhone owners back me up here, but the iPhone twitter apps are lightyears ahead of android twitter apps.
Just take a look at Tweetdeck for iPhone, and compare to to what i guess is the best android twitter app, twidroid?
Compare those and you'll see what i'm talking about.
I have a new HTC Hero (running new firmware) and all is fine except for one query regarding the trackball sensitivity.Basically it seems way-too sensitive for me, I find that the slightest touch moves it. For example it's very easy to over-shoot scrolling down a web page with multiple links and select the wrong one.I don't know if this is a feature or a fault since I have no other Hero to compare it with. (May be I have fat fingers!)Also I few (rare) times either the trackball has "moved itself" or something else weird has happend because I've seen the centre homescreen move on its own to the right... Which again makes me wonder whether there an issue with the trackball.

The instructions indicated that I should create a folder called app.disabled, and them move the bloatware and unwanted widgets, etc. to that file in case I wanted them later. Can that folder be moved to the SD card somehow, and if so, how? I am not at home right now, so I would prefer a handset only solution, but I can probably wait till I get home if the only solution requires a computer...

With a 8 gb class 4 card. I created a 500 mb EX2 partition. Using AppsToSD, I moved all applications, but not the cache, as I have been advised that the class 4 sd could have slowdown issues moving the cache as well. I have about 45 apps on the phone. The available internal memory is sitting at 16 mb available. Does this sound about right? It seems low to me.
I don't know how it happened but the "Phone" shortcut on my home-page accidentally got moved and I was wondering how do I get it back to where it is supposed to be? Its stuck on one of the pages where I have to click on the dots in the corner.

View 49 Replies View RelatedI got my HTC Desire on Contract from o2 on the 24th June.ive now found today that the charger wire cant be in certain angles in order for the phone to charge. For example the phone would charge when faced down, but not charge when faced up.Im assuming its the charging socket in the phone thats going wrong.Went to o2 store, who say i need to send it off to repair because im outside of the 28 days. this could take anything up to three weeks.

First, I installed Angry Birds (this was not the dumb thing, by the way, unless you count how much of my life it has consumed) and then moved the app to the SD card.The dumb thing was that a while later I was charging my phone via my computer (and I was in Disk Drive mode) and I went to play the game. Well, the icon was wrong and the game wouldn't play, so I panicked thinking that I might have lost all my progress. I went out to the market and re-downloaded the game. Whew! All my progress was still there.Later the whole you-just-couldn't-access-your-SD-card-at-the-moment-you-idiot thing sank in and I realized I had the app on both the card and in phone storage. So I went into Applications and tried to move it to the SD card, but I got an error (presumably because it's already there). So now it's taking up room in phone storage and I don't want it to. I'm afraid if I uninstall the app completely that I really will lose my progress. Any suggestions?
