Motorola Droid :: Larger Contact Photos During Phone Calls?
Jun 3, 2010I'm not sure if this is a droid thing or a software thing, so I'll post here first.
Does anyone know of a way to get a larger contact photo to show up when they call you (or you call them)? That tiny little icon image is just annoying to me. I want it to fill up more of the screen.

Nov 17, 2009I currently have Hand cent installed, and would like to use it as my shortcut instead of the android default of Messaging. That said, I'd like to continue to use the Messaging icon, AND the wording Messaging for the icon. Can these be changed? Rename the shortcut, and change the icon of the shortcut?

Sep 25, 2010Since updating to 2.2, when i add a shortcut to someone's contact info by (holding finger on screen>shortcut>contact>John Doe) it does not use the picture. Instead I just get the "shadow outline thingy" for their picture, even though the picture is still there in contacts app.
The only things I've added since doing the update are Facebook and Takephone, but I don't think either of those are the culprit since they are showing their pictures just fine...
Motorola Droid X :: Contact Shortcut With Google Talk Popup Option
Oct 16, 2010Coming from Nexus One to Droid X and want to put contact shortcuts on one of my homescreens that when tapped will let me choose from phone, messages, gmail, view contact and google talk. It was an easy option on my NO as well as my wifes Milestone. Cant figure it out on the X or her Droid 2.

Jun 28, 2010In the end, is there an application that really is speed dial for Android, like the traditional way, and that it doesn't have any lag in it? And which would have larger contact icons in high quality photos? I am using QuickDial but i am frustrated by the time it has to load every time i click it, and thus is not as "quick" as it says.

Sep 11, 2010I just got my droid 2. All set up and rolling. However, I am adding shortcuts to my contacts on my desktop (ala the d1) by pressing and holding the screen, then Shortcuts > Contact. I scroll to the contact and select it. and it adds them to the home screen. Unfortunately, it adds them with the WRONG icon. It IS an existing icon for a user just not the user I am selecting. Also: It is only when I add it to the home screen as a shortcut when it gets jacked. Anyone else seeing this or have a solution? Also, I use google to sync all my contacts. I use Gmail to set the icons. There is only a certain size which can be used. but on the D2, the same contact icons/images seem to be blown out. Like I COULD use a bigger size image, bug I dont think that Google allows it? Anyone know what size contact image the 2 can handle and a way to use that image through Gmail? So far, moving from a D1 to a D2Im not completely impressed. but it is faster and works well. except for this issue. And the moto blur crap. Also to note... when using the (HORRIBLE) motorola contact widget the icon/image IS correct. but cmon, is this widget even useful? How many people have only one number? And I need a 4x4 widget for one contact... mobile, home, text, email, etc.. BS. Really the function on the D1 of adding a shortcut to a contact is much better. add em, click the icon, then it asks you what you want to do (text, call, email, talk, etc)... the D2 still does this but you have to go into Contacts and click on the person first before getting the options.

Is there a setting or app that would allow me to add a "gtalk" icon to a contact so that when I select a contact I would get the option to directly "talk/chat" with them via "Gtalk"?
Currently, when I select a contact I get the following icons:
"phone or call", "edit info", and "Instant Message"
I'd like to add to that list the "Gtalk" option.

Dec 29, 2009I felt that the storm and storm 2 were lacking in this department also. We have such a fantastic, high quality screen. I would love to see a full screen caller ID picture when someone calls, not the tiny square.

Oct 25, 2009I recently updated the handcent messaging app and after a few soft resets the icon on the home screen is gone. the name is there and a grey X. if i reinstall the app it reappears but it takes too much time to keep redoing my settings. anyone else notice that? it happened twice after about 8 soft resets.

I'm planning on sticking with TWiz, and since I've never actually used it, I'm curious if anyone can help with some tips. 1. The icon shortcut layout is annoying. I don't like how they won't snap to a grid, and can overlap and be all over the place. Is there a way to change this? 2. That silly Quick List? Is that just another useless app window with recently used apps, or can it be edited to list apps I want in there? I'm not looking for home replacement apps because I've tried them all, and I'm just looking to get by for the next few weeks.

May 3, 2010I've found some other threads discussing the fact that the default shortcut for Facebook is actually just a shortcut to a browser bookmark for Facebook. If you delete this shortcut, you can re-create it, but it has a boring red flag icon. With a custom bookmark app, you could restore this original icon... but only if you know where to find it. Where is that icon stored? It has to be somewhere on the root of the phone. Using root explorer, I can't find it. I'm guessing it's stored inside of an archive somewhere. Any ways to search more thoroughly?
Related: can I somehow use my PC (Windows explorer) to browse the root of the phone?
Or, can I find it somewhere in the original .tar file containing the flash update for the phone?
(running rooted 2.1 DD10, FWIW).

I've saved a chrome bookmark to androids homepage. The icon on the homepage is an ugly generic thing. So i'd like to change it. But how?
I did some google-ing. But all i find how to install another laucher.
Surely there must be an easier way to change an icon?

Jul 18, 2010When adding new contacts to the droid x, it added it as both a goggle contact and phone contact. (i only have one goggle account setup). I went into contacts -> menu -> more -> settings. I am UNABLE to check/unchecked the "Phone Contacts" (it is always checked). The goggle one i am able to check/unchecked. WHY and HOW can i toggle the phone contact? Also, backup assistant only takes PHONE contacts and not GOOGLE contacts...while g mail contact sync only takes goggle contacts and NOT PHONE contacts. How can one change phone contact to goggle contact? (i have seen posts all over but no answers...and just replies saying "i have the same problem") I am trying NOT to have two (2) different types of contacts. PHONE and GOOGLE. I just want goggle contacts ( or phone contacts. so i can at least use verizon's backup assistant.
