I have a Sprint Hero and I'm trying to add a shortcut to call the person I call the most. I found AnyCut, but it's not working. I open the app, hit "Direct Call" and then it simply says "No Matches Found."
How do I select a contact? Am I doing something wrong?
Are there any other free apps that I can use to create a shortcut (that I can rename and create a custom icon)?

In the thread where some users where posting their screenshots, I saw what appeared to be contacts as a shortcut on one the main screens. I was just curious how or what program is used to do this. Any help? Here is an example.

I am not a developer. I am trying to learn Java, Eclipse, Android SDK, Linux, and AnyCut. I am obviously lost regarding where to start in order to design and develop apps for Android.
I hope this post will become a tutorial with tips and tricks for designing shortcuts using AnyCut's "Make Your Own" option. The "Activity" option will allow most shortcuts but I want a better understanding of what to add to the Action, Data, and Type fields to design shortcuts that successfully navigate android OS.

I want to write a short app for getting some info from contacts, the first list screen I have should display the user Image (or an Image from resources if no such image exists) an the user display name. The problem is I don't seem to find a query that will provide me with the display name and a user id And the image URI in the same query. Moreover I'm aware of the fact that if the user has no image and the URI is empty or null i will most likely to get an exception while the adapter calls setViewImage(). Is there a simple way around it or should I override the setViewImage() or bindView() methods?
Also about the query, any chance I can make a single query for contact URI, _ID, contact_id and display name? my current queries: To get the contacts:

Here I get from a cursor with _ID column the id and then creating the uri, I know I can get a row number but I'm not familiar enough with contentProvider to know how to join tables to get it all in one query (if even possible).
It is way to slow and in the first example it doesnt even move. How do I make a game? With SurfaceView or OpenGL? And should I draw in a separate thread?

Before the version 20 update of the eclipse plugin it was working but now it isn't Plus I am having a few issues with the device itself. I am just trying to make a simple application that displays the numbers you push, then clear out after you hit clear. In the old SDK it worked but on my TF101 the numbers wouldn't display.

This seems simple, but it looks like whenever I put a contact in my address book with ANY of my email addresses, it isn't available to be used for a shortcut. Try this and tell me that I'm not going crazy. ...but please TRY it before you post the instructions. I say this because I got my boss to try it and he thought I was being a smartass until he tried to do it. A shortcut to email to myself is really helpful for tracking things and is like a to do list for me.

View 7 Replies View RelatedSince updating to 2.2, when i add a shortcut to someone's contact info by (holding finger on screen>shortcut>contact>John Doe) it does not use the picture. Instead I just get the "shadow outline thingy" for their picture, even though the picture is still there in contacts app.
The only things I've added since doing the update are Facebook and Takephone, but I don't think either of those are the culprit since they are showing their pictures just fine...
I'm using Android 2.3 with LauncherPro as launcher. I've added a shortcut to a contact on my desktop (longpress -> shortcut -> contacts then choosen a contact). When I click on the shortcut I got a popup with a list of application that can be used. Dial, Message, Mail and so on. Is there to customize this list (change the order of applications) ?

I don't sync contacts or calendar to Google but use HTC Sync to sync with my desktop Outlook. It all works well, but of course it means I have no Google contacts on my handset, only phone contacts. Seems that Better/AnyCut can't see these.
I have an app that allows you to create Home "shortcuts" to a specific Activity. It turns out that some of my users will use the app, hit the home key to go do something else, then use one of the shortcuts to jump back to that Activity. Since the app is still in memory it just opens the new Activity on top of the others and the "Back" key will take them back through the whole history. What I'd like to have happen is if they use a shortcut then to effectively kill the history and have the back key just exit the app. Any suggestions?
