Sometimes I want to keep my phones screen on until I turn it off (ex, when I'm using a stop watch app). Is there a way to create a shortcut on my homescreen that will turn off screen auto close?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got my first Droid phone last night, went from a BB Tour to a Droid 2. So far it seems to be pretty nice, lil getting used to but over all I'm liking it. One thing that bugs me though is - I've downloaded Handcent (for texting) and Maildroid (for pop3 email) and have added both to my home screen. So far so good. what I can't figure out though is how in the world do I change the shortcut name? Right now they are labeled Handcent and Maildroid - I'd like to rename them to Messaging and Mail respectively. Can someone point out what I need to do to rename these? I'm sure I'm overlooking it somewhere.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Simply Stunning 3.2 rom and its running fine so far, however I have a bit of a problem with a shortcut that I made with bettercut. I made shortcut for contacts with bettercut but when I try to use it, it tells me the application is not installed. Now I have encountered this before and found that I could fix it by deleting the duplicate shortcut that bettercut makes on the built in home launcher (I use helix). My problem with this new rom is that it doesn't have the home launcher installed and only has helix and helix 2. Due to this, I have no way to open the android home launcher. My question is, there a place that shortcuts are saved even though the home launcher isn't installed? If so where is that directory so I can remove the dupe shortcuts?

Anyone know how I can do this? I have LauncherPro and I know you can make shortcuts with it but programming those shortcuts seems pretty complicated. View 6 Replies View RelatedSince updating to 2.2, when i add a shortcut to someone's contact info by (holding finger on screen>shortcut>contact>John Doe) it does not use the picture. Instead I just get the "shadow outline thingy" for their picture, even though the picture is still there in contacts app.
The only things I've added since doing the update are Facebook and Takephone, but I don't think either of those are the culprit since they are showing their pictures just fine...
Alright guys, please bear with me as I'm new to the Droid, Android, and GPS capability in my phone. I downloaded Beautiful Widgets (totally awesome, by the way) and I just want to confirm how the GPS toggle widget works since it seems to just be a shortcut to a setting in the OS as opposed to the wifi and Bluetooth toggle widgets which do their own thing. When you tap the GPS toggle widget it, it takes you the "location & security settings" part of the OS settings. I'm assuming that at this point you either check/uncheck the "Use GPS satellites" to turn on/off the GPS chip in this phone? Can I leave it unchecked and just before I need to get some directions or navigation, turn it back on? What I'm getting at is: Can I turn it on and off according my need for it at any given moment?

And the nexus theme has a shortcut on the bottom of the home screen that is linked to the stock mms app, I use handcent is there a way to replace that shortcut? There is an advanced shortcut menu in the configure menu that shows a shortcut saying application package. it reads com.android.mms I am hoping I can replace that with a handcent command but not sure what to do. Any ideas?

Needless to say, some labels are, to me, more important than others. But it takes too long to open up gallery and sort through all of my photos. However, if a situation arises where I need to lock the phone immediately there's no option to do that. There is an option under Settings to trigger on power button push. I'm not a huge fan of that since I use the power button to switch off the phone when I don't need it (to save battery). If nothing exists I might try the power button option.

The backstory first:
I have a Nexus 10. I like to plug it into my TV via HDMI and watch videos or play games, or what have you. Since the aspect ratio doesn't match the TV I get black bars on the sides. In a command line, one can type

Rather than typing this into a terminal /every time/ I want to do this, is there a simple widget or app that will let me set up a shortcut on the homescreen that I can just click on to toggle instead?

1) Is there a way to programmatically delete a home-screen shortcut on Android? I know that it can be done manually but I want to do it in code.
2) Is there a directory where all the contents of the home-screen are stored and, if there is, is there a way to update the contents of this directory?
